Who has heard of this?
Apparently it's so common it's not even tested for unless you have symptoms.
So is passed on & on and on.
Trichomoniasis is a type of sexually transmitted infection caused by a tiny parasite.

A gum clinic can test for it (postal kits aren’t good for it as they live around the cervix and don’t survive the post. They are diagnosed under a microscope. The symptoms are very very obvious when one has it.

That said, some can be asymptomatic. I always do in-person testing six-monthly and look for “strawberry cervix” when I check my IUD strings monthly. Most sti tests only test for the big five which is also why I never do oral without a barrier in place.

Trichomoniasis is a common sexually transmitted infection caused by a parasite. In women, trichomoniasis can cause a foul-smelling vaginal discharge, genital itching and painful urination. Men who have trichomoniasis typically have no symptoms. |

Yeah I've heard about it and I'm clued up on symptoms because it's not generally tested for unless you ask.
I think most people have at this point, atleast women maybe because it can be mistaken for BV or vise versa just from the symptoms |

BV can have various triggers, like being toooooo clean, being allergic to latex (my personal trigger until I tried latex free condoms), multiple partners... |

Very late to this old thread. Have just been chatting with a health care professional off a vanilla site and mentioned fab.
She said loads of swingers have this and 70% of them are asymptomatic.
After a deep dive it turns out that the most common test for it is crap. 60-70% false negatives.
And it’s not just an inconvenience. It increases the risk of getting or passing aids, causes premature birth and may cause prostate cancer.
I’d never even heard of it.
What’s the opposite of ignorance is bliss? |

We test for this every 3 months as part of our testing. Comments noted on false negatives !
We have to look out for each other in this game and we come across a lot of people who claim to be ‘fully tested’ who are indeed not fully tested at all.
We’ve heard of people using walk in clinics who only get a 2 or 4 strand test
Be safe peeps and ask questions

It’s worth asking which of three types of test they do.
Below is copied from Wikipedia.
The first is known as saline microscopy. This is the most commonly used method and requires an endocervical, vaginal, or penile swab specimen for examination under a microscope.[17] The presence of one or multiple trichomonads constitutes a positive result. This method is cheap but has a low sensitivity (60–70%) often due to an inadequate sample, resulting in false negatives.[18][19]
The second diagnostic method is culture, which has historically been the "gold standard" in infectious disease diagnosis. Trichomonas vaginalis culture tests are relatively cheap but their sensitivity is still somewhat low (70–89%).[20]
The third method includes the nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs), which are more sensitive.[20] These tests are more costly than microscopy and culture, and are highly sensitive (80–90%).[21] |

"Sometimes the policy of sticking to wanking in your own bed can begin to look appealing."
If you look at the chapter's on disease in sex books, you definitely might stick to wanking. Then, stick to a regular partner,FWB style. |
