Who had it BAD?
Jump to: Newest in thread
I'm just curious, as I see most people say they had covid and felt rough for a few days, or maybe even stuck in bed for a couple of days or weeks.
I don't tend to see people say they were in a really bad way - and of course, statistically, that makes sense because the majority will only have mild symptoms.
I nearly died when I had it, ICU and all that. And this was before vaccines were available, before anyone tries to tell me I was poisoned.
And if it ever comes up in conversation, people are always surprised to hear that. It's like there's a disconnect between what we were seeing and hearing back in 2020, and the real world.
And even then, they generally can't grasp that covid is the reason I now have breathing problems (never an issue before), still can't taste or smell properly and thus have a very limited diet, the exhaustion, the confusion, the fact I hardly go out...
Does this resonate with anyone? |

It hits different people in vastly different ways, even seemingly illogically so (someone you may expect to be hit hard just has a bad cough for a day or 2, someone who is normally a picture of health is hit like a ton of bricks)
Someone I know got hit particularly hard (fully vaccinated and boosted) and said she'd rather go through chemo again than have covid |

"Also I know people who've had it more than once and have had different experiences different time's
It's a fucking weird disease
I'm hoping that you'll fully recover at some point, all the best "
Yeah I had it again recently, had a couple of days that I honestly don't remember much of and then was pretty much back to my normal level of rubbish!
Thanks very much |

Not all that North of North London |
I didn't have it that bad, I was wiped out for 10 days literally sleeping 14 hours a day and no energy to even are a drink.
I'd ran a marathon a week before testing positive, 2 weeks after testing negative I was struggling to walk 5km. And it took me another 2 months to feel physically normal after that.
And that was double vaccinated, fitter than average and only comorbity of asthma.
It was definitely not just the flu abd I dread to think how ill I may have been unvaccinated |

I had it back before the vaccines. I'm rarely ill but this had me in hospital and since I've had reoccurring palpitations and never been quite right since. I spent the 26 days really ill and 3 months to feel okayish.
Had it again recently and such a different experience. Still off my feet for 48hours but recovery was much quicker |

I had it before vaccines
I was very ill. Pain like id never felt, couldn't breathe properly, couldn't eat. I was very ill for 3 weeks. Then very weak for a long time. Im still not right. Im left with fatigue, weakness, pain, brain fog.
Im lucky i avoided the hospital, because there were times i probably should have gone when breathing hurt and i could barely take a breath |

Had it pretty mild, bit of a anticlimax after all the doom mongers. But the after affects of the vaccine were terrible, couldn’t breath, temperature, nearly had to get an ambulance, though right as rain the next day. Strange. |

Two months off work, coughing up blood, suspected heart attack, blue lighted in twice, 4 cat scans MRI multiple X rays.. suspected bleed on brain and in lungs... Wiped out... Months to get back to 80 percent of what I was... It's shit, I hope none of you ever get it x |

You were lucky as ICU my partner/wife was not. But (jokes aside) I can not get it due to rare blood type missing Genes however due to what happened in 2020 and also that I translate for The Lancet German into English, it sounds you have been badly hit.
One translation I did for a specialist in Switzerland was in regard of long term problems in relationship to breathing and the effects of Cov19 on the sensory body parts ( tongue / nose ). In short they have recognised that they are long term effects, but it varies from each patient especially those who spent time in ICU's.

Relatively mild case, two weeks on bed, oddly left hand stopped working for about a month and would say it took me about 3 months to get back to a normal level of activity, still cant walk far and get tired midday |

Really sorry to hear how much some have suffered and count ourselves lucky that we had three day in bed followed by (and still have) awful fatigue and strange aches and pains. It’s a nasty disease and took my mother in law…hate what it’s done to all of us…shouldn’t be downplayed or forgotten |

I've had unpleasant reactions to the vaccines but not quite that bad! Each time, it's worse... but literally for 1 day. Weird huh |

I'm very sorry for your loss!
Sensory issues, oh yes ... I hear things, but docs just look at me like I'm losing the plot.
Interesting re: the impact on people who had it bad. I know a lot of people, from support groups and such, that had a very mild infection but developed all sorts of long term issues. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it |

My experience of covid came 2 months before the vaccines and it completely wiped me out for two weeks. I've never felt as ill before or since - struggled breathing at times, slept all sorts of hours, couldn't taste anything so didn't want to eat even though I'd try to, I lost a stone and a half in weight and was coughing and spluttering throughout. My brother contracted it at the same time and was sadly gone in 9 days.
After what happened to him I was in fear and did my best not to sleep which probably hampered my recovery.
It took me months to feel right and I will be honest I need to work harder mentally now as I don't feel I'm quite as sharp as I was - still left with the brain fog at times. |

I got it after a cruise in March 2020 probably from the guy we had back in our cabin for some fun lol.
We were repatriated from Lisbon where the cruise terminated to Brazil.
Because of internal flight cancellations we had to hire a car to drive the 1100km back to our daughter's house where our car was.
We arrived on a Sunday evening and I felt very fatigued which I thought was from the Journey.
I spent the next 11 days in bed and lost 6 kilos. I felt like I was going to die but refused to go into a Brazilian hospital as it was 50/50 whether people survived at that time.
I survived on paracetamol, cups of tea and yoghurts with fruit in. I couldn't stand the smell of anything else especially garlic.
I mostly remember the sweating and fever hallucinations. I vomited every time I entered a bathroom and what I produced was mostly orange for some reason. When the fevers subsided the breathing difficulties then started but, being asthmatic, I took more than usual doses of my steroid inhaler which seemed to help.
Thankfully I made a full recovery fairly quickly after. |

I ended up in hospital when ambulances had capacity...as I had also started coughing up blood felt like I was going to die... worst strangest illness I have ever had.... xrays showed I had blood clots on my lungs... never lost taste or smell or appetite though. Lost 2 family members from it too... |

Similar symptoms here plus a few other nasty bit's
21 days in bed
Hardly able to stand let alone walk unable to eat more than a mouthful of dry toast, whole nervous system was shot with uncontrollable shake's, breathing issues hallucinating, insomnia pain in every organ and muscle.
Through sheer stubbornness I refused to go into Hospital at the time when people where dying in their hundreds daily.
Two years on I regret not going in on a ventilator as it's fucked me up.
Doctors don't give a crap or listen.
I now have terrible tinnitus and struggle with physical exertion.
Asthmatic, diabetic and high blood pressure I would have hoped that they would have offered better if any aftercare.
Twice during my time with COVID I thought that it was the end.
I've had some pretty bad illness in my life but never anything that affected almost every part of my body in such a way.
I wish I was one of those lucky people who got it mild.

My husband collapsed at home and was taken to hospital. He nearly died, three days after he came back out of hospital my Dad had to go in, 4 days later he died.
I work in a School and still had to look after vulnerable students..i caught it and so did our son. I was my Dads only carer as my Mum had died 12 weeks earlier..unknowingly i passed it to my Dad..you cannot imagine the guilt I feel.
So, for any knobheads out there that still think its been nothing much or its not real...seriously don't be so dumb..

Covid killed an otherwise healthy uncle of mine (it hit him like a truck) and almost killed one of my cousins (a healthy 40yo married with two young kids who was in ICU for a long time).
Covid hardly affected my father-in-law (he found out he had it when at hospital for a fall) who had a myriad of chronic conditions and was taking a fair amounts of pills every day.
You never know how it is going to affect you until you have it. |

Brother in law got it really bad, fit & healthy fifty nine year old. He almost died, multiple organ failures & a bleed on the brain while in ICU. He was in an induced coma for a couple of months & they’d done the “Its not looking good” chat.
He had to relearn how to walk & talk once he was out & will not work again.
For comparison I got it, two days of not being able to lift my head off the pillow another week of feeling rough enough to not work then it was gone.
Just a weird illness altogether.

Iv had covid several times and didn't feel too bad at all. 2 very close friends however weren't so lucky. One in his 60's was very ill and on an incubator, he was in hospital for 6 months and nearly 2 years on still struggling.
A friend who was a healthy 40 year old was very sick too and in hospital with it, she now has long covid and functions at about 40% compared to before covid. |

When I (Mr) had Covid back in January it wasn't that bad at all. A bit of fever and a dull headache for a couple of days.
However a few weeks ago I picked up something which knocked me sideways for a week.
Cold or Flu I'm not sure but the fever and sweating was much worse than Covid and I finished up with a kidney infection that was pretty bad.
Had 3 Covid tests but all were negative. |

Did they not take bloods to grow a culture? It’s almost certainly bacterial. If they just gave you covid tests then it’s laziness or ignorance on behalf of the doctor. I personally think most GPs and the like at that level are pretty useless for anything that isn’t mundane. And I do have some qualifications to back that up (or at least I’ve named two drugs) |

We actually run a Covid test centre in Germany so were able to do our own tests, and we have a stock of test kits here in Spain
I'm not one for rushing to the doctor every time I have a sniffle but eventually I did go.
He did a urine test and ultrasound and yes he did say it was a bacterial kidney infection. But I think that was a left over from whatever I'd had originally.
A course of antibiotics eventually cleared it up. But I was really shit for a week.

Yeah figures. Although I think it was probably just a kidney infection. You’re describing something systemic which would be a lot worse |

We are both adamant we had it the Christmas of 2019 before it all went global a few months later. We literally cancelled our Christmas, the kids opened their presents and we went back to bed. Our eldest made them both sandwiches for lunch and we slept pretty much all day. It was the same for about 8 days until we started feeling better. Then we had our Christmas dinner! We've both had illnesses before, both experienced proper flu but this was totally different. The headache, sweats, temperature spikes, aching, chest infection, lack of appetite and loss of taste & smell. It battered us. We've both been triple jabbed since and have both only had it once since and were fine within a few days and showed very few symptoms in comparison. It was awful! |

I had very different experience OP but I recognize what you're saying.
It's pretty straight forward - the early versions of the virus were much worse. You can see that in the early oubreaks, there were terrifying videos of people leaking out of China in the early days. |

I had a later variant, after being vaccinated. So felt ill but like a bad flu really. Lasted about 7 or 8 days.
Earlier variants seemed to be a lot worse and targeted the lungs. And people had no help from vaccines.
Most sane people recognise that, mutations and vaccines have definitely took the sting out for most. |

I managed to avoid getting covid since the start if the pandemic. Ended up with an ambulance last Monday due to my asthma being bad, inhalers not working and genuinely struggling to breathe. At this stage was still testing negative.
By the evening was definitely positive and it knocked me for 6 for a few days. Dr's prescribed me some strong antibiotics used for pneumonia as has it a little while ago.
I have been Covid free as such for 3 days now but my ears are bunged up, I am coughing up so much muck off of my chest it is unreal and I still can't taste or smell anything.
Fingers crossed those who are suffering it get well soon. |

I’m sure I had covid Dec 2019 along with most of my work. Some were diagnosed with pneumonia at the time which then became symptoms of covid. I was ill for a few days and suffered for several weeks with a cough and several months with throat issues.
I think the issue is no one can now tell the difference between covid and other infections. I’ve no tests left and probably have a chest infection. I’m menopausal and everything takes longer to recover from. |

The question must be asked; after hearing of all these terrible and varied symptoms, is this thing a 'natural' disease or is it a man-made poison? When I had covid, it was moderate to medium level serious, but felt completely different from the worst bout of flu I ever had (I've had flu 4-5 times) |
