This is a very very contagious virus that is closely linked to Ebola. Should we be worried? Two cases and over 100 in quarantine...

What's going on here guys.

It's a damn sight worse than Ebola and makes COVID look like a joke, in terms of case fatality rate. We should be worried if it spreads further and Ghanians should be worried, yes.

Yes, it’s a deadly bug.

Yes, people in the area of the outbreak should be very fuckin’ worried.

Do I think the media will generate hysteria and fear because of it? Yes, it sells column inches.

Am I worried? No.

Of course it'll never escape from Ghana. Like monkeypox will never infect anyone outside Africa, and SARS type viruses are only a problem in Asia.

It's only a matter of time before we get the usual suspects saying "it's only like Ebola, people get it all the time, it helps build up the immune system".

What does Public health England say about it, if they advise it represents little risk to the UK shut airports and ports immediately.

At the moment there doesn't seem to be any wider spread and a 91 people Are currently in quarantine in Ghana but not because they are exhibiting symptoms but because they were close contacts. Hopefully it was caught in time.

There have been outbreaks before but very small.

Portsmouth

It was first described in 1967

There was an outbreak in Marberg in Germany after a reserch accident where 37 got infected and 7 died. There are outbreaks in Africa every 2 or 3 years, you haven't worried about any of those, so there's little reason to worry about the current outbreak.

Because of its Epidemiology, it is not a likely candidate for a global pandemic or even a large-scale localised pandemic.

Unless you're planning on travelling to Ghana or neigbouring states, during the current outbreak, or are expecting a visitor from there, then there is genuinely very little for us to worry about!

If it goes more viral and spreads to most countries then I would be very afraid as it has between 24-88% fatality rate. That would be seriously worrying and I believe everyone would beg for a lock down.

I hate to be pedantic - and this is little more than that - but if something is localised, is it still a pandemic?

I applaud your vigilance but...

Pandemic

/pan'd?m?k/

Adjective

(Of a disease) Prevalent over a whole country or the world.

Hence we referred to Cov19 as a 'Global Pandemic' not a localised Pandemic..

It's not a pandemic if it is localised it is an epidemic.

Yes, quite correct, (although currently its probably still to small to even be an epidemic) but I did not say that it was a pandemic. I said if it becomes one... I.e. If it spreads through the whole of Ghana and neighbouring countries... Then it would indeed be a localised Pandemic. Regionalised pandemic may perhaps have been a better choice of words xx

But I think the context I used the phrase in is still defensible..

Absolutely 100% agree, everything on that box is lies and programming. People need to stop looking at the programming on their tv. I mean you only need to take I’m a celebrity get me out of here where they eat bugs, you all think it’s a game. But no it’s to normalise eating bugs and now they’re actually talking about us eating them. People seriously need to stop watching tv

And don't get me started on the whole flat Earth thing. The lying TV told us for years the world is round. But anybody can see the Earth is really flat. Just use your eyes, sheeple.

Also, why don't we all just roll off if the Earth is round, eh? Physics is all a lie too. I blame Newton. He was in cahoots with the knights templar back in the day to fool future generations. (Or some shit like that. Why not?)

But if it does exist it's harmless really... I had it last week and it was just like a cold. And I don't know anyone whose had it.
