Covid has not gone away.

The worldwide pandemic is still in effect.

Regardless of the current worldwide activity of the the virus, this is a public forum where people can share their tragic stories, their hopes and fears, their lives, their trials and their tribulations, even amongst the chaos of questionable veracity.

Expunging the above is a form of information extermination, not that far removed from current events in Russia.

It's disingenuous at best, and downright historical censorship at worst.

It's removal would be basically saying, "You didn't matter You meant nothing.".

I think since we are more back to some degree of normality it would be sensible to close but if things change could be re opened as no one needs to see fake news making people feel depressed when we've made progress.

Why are people so keen for the Virus section to actually close? Surely it is pretty easy to, you know, stop visiting and reading the posts? Just ignore it. With (hopefully) the continued reduction in Covid deaths and removal of restrictions, the number of topics to discuss will dwindle and the virus section will become a ghost town anyway!

If there is nothing (less) to discuss there there will be less discussion. Simple!

If you don't want to read don't click on the section. That is what I have been informed of in the past..

Personally I like to read just to know how many Facebook experts there are out there.. The same experts will already have become Russian/Ukrainian envoys to negotiate peace cause they know best. Or they believe there is not a war, its all fake and Boris's fault.. lol

It's a poorly thought through idea, as this section is optional and means that the mods etc don't have such a high level of work, if this topic is scattered around.

My main driver for the post was the vitriol sometimes shown to each other on a site that is supposed to be about a lifestyle choice and harmony.

Very divisive, its basically just the politics section now. Same know-it-all’s over and over again who just seem to love to wallow in their insecurities or project their superior knowledge.

I love this section. It needs to stay for a number of reasons.

Covid is not over. The covid measures are over but not the virus. One in 10 people have symptoms of long covid. There is still debate on any medium or long term impact in people’s health from the vaccines. There is still debate on future potential health issues on people who caught covid and experienced only mild symptoms.

If people do not like this section they do not have to frequent it.

If you dislike it so much, just stay off it. There are plenty of other areas of FAB for you to enjoy without venturing anywhere near it.

Yes, perhaps all the threads that people keep inconveniently starting to talk about viruses could be gathered together in one place, so that they don't have to be looked at by those that aren't interested. It could be called something like the Virus Forum section. Then the only people that ever need to look at virus related topics are those that deliberately choose to look at virus related topics. No fuss, no clutter.

Common cold would already be covered within the title of this forum, "Virus". I believe that there is some research now suggesting that diabetes might be triggered by some form of viral infection in susceptible people. Some type of cancer are caused by viruses, eg. HPV causing cervical cancer. Lots of heart conditions are caused by viral infections.

Anybody know if there are any virus connections for obesity?

There never appear to be any coherent answers to the valid points that people respond with though.

The r rate is above 1.0 in over 50s,meaning that infection levels are growing in some parts of our population.

I think too many relaxations happened too quickly and simultaneously here, with many perceiving that they no longer needed to bother.

It's good that this section is here, as there are many diverse skillsets amongst us and - the best of fab prevailing - really decent, caring people. Even if there are some aspects that can be uncomfortable for some. I think we gain more by having this, than closing it off.

But not everyone posting are looking for advice. Sometimes people enjoy a discussion, sometimes about serious stuff, sometimes they want to just share experiences and opinions.

Russia is not a democracy, the people don't choose their government and it is a crime to criticise them. Putin has declared that protesting against their actions in Ukraine will be considered TREASON which can be punishable by death. Despite this there have still been mass protests and tens of thousands of people have been arrested.

I can't say I support the notion of being hostile to all Russians just becuase they are Russian. Many are against the actions going on in Ukraine and of those in favour I do have to wonder how well informed they are. To be clear I'm not saying they are ignorant but with an estimated 70% of the Russian people getting their news from state run TV it's hardly surprising their views are being encouraged to align with the state.

If you think the Russians are in the right take a look at the alleged motive for going in. They needed to remove the influence of Nazis. Among the key goals of the Nazi party was genocidal erradication of all Jewish people. The leader of Ukraine is Jewsish. So we are to believe he stands for his own death but also that a nation hell bent on the extinction of all Jews just overlooked this fact when they went to vote?

To quote the German embassy in South Africa "Sorry, but we can't stay silent on this one, it's just far too cynical. What [Russia] is doing in [Ukraine] is slaughtering innocent children, women and men for its own gain. It's definitely not 'fighting Nazism.' Shame on anyone who's falling for this. (Sadly, we're kinda experts on Nazism.)"

I could list many other things that Putin has committed forces in the current invasion (not peace keeping) to do and has shown a history of doing but I get the feeling you have gone full Q and tell me that's all fake news as part of an elaborate ploy by Western media over the last 20 or so years all leading to this moment when they can finally go for him because the west has nothing better to do with their time.

If your infavour of a man who bombs maternity hospitals and threatens to plunge the planet into nuclear war if NATO actively stop his invasion of Ukraine while also attaking the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, a plant he has put into an unstable state that could end up irradiating Europe and Russia then I think maybe you need to go check your sources and re-evaluate your world view but I fear you may be a little to far down the rabbit hole.

It will probably just wither and die on the vine as either Covid becomes a thing of the past or all posts become a repeat of a previous post.

With restrictions lifting I tend to only give it a glance as more interested in posts about real meets and holidays.

Honestly think talk about negative things like this belong elsewhere, we are on here to for fun and couldn’t imagine bringing any of this up in a club or on a meet

There are many non sexual forums on here, it's just people interacting. There are many I don't go on, as I have no interest in them. I would think a lot of people have been affected by the virus..we have..and I have found some appropriate posts on here, that have helped me.
