Stood his ground and the Aussie open organisers bottled it …

He’s tested positive in 2020 has anti body’s and has already beaten COVID once … I can understand why he doesn’t want the vaccines.

But watch the media frenzy and social media Karen’s go wild

I wonder how many doctors he had to pay before he got the result he wanted

He’s a disgrace and supposed to be a roll model

1) his stupidity was the reason to how he caught it! He caught it originally by organising his own tournament and then a huge disco as an FU to people who were trying to do the sensible thing at the time

He also managed to infect 12 of the 16 players at said tournament.. so said tournament had to be cancelled mid way through!!!

2) he is claiming “medical exception” so the Aussie open authorities may have to answer to the state and national government if they don’t have the relevant paperwork …. Especially after all the hoops they have made cricket Australia and the England cricket team so they could have the ashes

to many people have too much to say about others.

This government has turned us all into snitches & making it so others can’t have a different opinion.

Roll model? Is he sponsored by Warburtons now?

Accusing him of bribing medical professionals is an interesting twist.

I thought medical professionals were beyond reproach.

If they can be bribed to fake results of a test, could they be bribed to promote the use of a vaccine?

1 - applications for medical exemptions are anonymously processed by 2 separate panels

2 - Your assertion that ‘he’s a disgrace’ is negated by point 1

3 - He’s not anything other than a tennis player. Whilst you might not consider him to be a roll (sic) model, others may well see it differently

NB - Djokovic refuses to make public his vaccination status. If you’re claiming he’s an anti-vaxxer then you’re taking a leap of faith

Were the players that caught Covid forced to play? They could've pulled out if they weren't happy.

If they were vaccinated, the vaccine will have given them 'far more protection'* from the virus.

The tournament he scheduled was in mid June 2020, at the time the ATP tennis tour had suspended all tournaments …. He did apologise for putting other players at risk, and infecting them and admitted that the tournament was far too soon to take place!!!

You’ll also notice by the dates it was only 3 months in…. And there would not be any vaccines for another 6 months!!

So… moral of the story, if you are going to try to be smart and make flippant comments like the one above, best know your time patterns…

Statement: ""Djokovic applied for a medical exemption which was granted following a rigorous review process involving two separate independent panels of medical experts"

The rules clearly specify when a medical exemption can be granted:

-Inflammatory cardiac illness in the last three months

- Undergoing major surgery or hospital admission for a serious illness

- A COVID-19 diagnosis that means vaccination cannot be made for six months

- Any serious effect to a COVID-19 vaccine in the past

- If the vaccine is a risk to themselves or others during the vaccination process

- Underlying developmental or mental health disorders

Should he be made to disclose his entire medical history and undergo a mental health evaluation?

Eevetyone has the CHOICE of taking or not taking the vaccine... Then a booster... And another booster.. Then maybe another one just to be safe... Then have a booster every cpl months just incase the first 4 didn't work

You say zero problems but on other threads you said it was your second time with a sad face, followed with coughing a lung up.

On a second thread you said you had covid over xmas but knew nothing about it, had a lingering cold for a few weeks.

On a third thread you say you've had a cough since xmas and felt like crap for a few days, and you finish with saying it is a phlegmy cough.

As much as I don't like his position on this, I don't believe he's "supposed to be a role model".

He's a professional tennis player, adept at hitting a rubber ball over a net, he hasn't any responsibility to social development or promoting any agenda other than his own.

To be honest I’m a bit dubious about the medical exemption thing. Seems more like he just didn’t want to disclose his vaccination status but also still wanted to play. Could have easily pulled out the tournament or showed a valid vaccine pass, he did neither and got what he wanted.

Up to him if he gets vaccinated, up to the Aussies to let him play or not, perfectly valid if they don’t want him to play based on his vaccination/antibody/testing status or visa versa but huge inconsistency if they let him play IF he doesn’t meet THEIR criteria or doesn’t disclose the info required.

How has he ‘stood up for himself’ ? He has a medical exemption, without that he would’ve be allowed to play

To be honest I’m a bit dubious about the medical exemption thing. Seems more like he just didn’t want to disclose his vaccination status but also still wanted to play. Could have easily pulled out the tournament or showed a valid vaccine pass, he did neither and got what he wanted. "

I wonder which doctor he paid for

"Medical Exemption" is a very broad term and very few people qualify as having one. It'll be interesting to see what specific reason they come out with to justify.

I agree with his principle that somebody should not be coerced into having a vaccination and that an individual should not lose their livelihood as a result of personal choice. It just seems like a slap in the face to nurses/carers etc who are being made unemployed that such a strict nation has bent its own rules so flagrantly.

No problems here like millions of others

I've had covid twice with zero problems, like millions of others.

Like I've said before, stats are great until you are the one having the issue, then it doesn't really matter how rare it is does it?

You say zero problems but on other threads you said it was your second time with a sad face, followed with coughing a lung up.

On a second thread you said you had covid over xmas but knew nothing about it, had a lingering cold for a few weeks.

On a third thread you say you've had a cough since xmas and felt like crap for a few days, and you finish with saying it is a phlegmy cough.

It don't know what to make of your symptoms? "

I don't considered any of those symptoms to be a problem personally, I've had much worse from a bog standard cold.

I however still have a slight cough today if it makes you feel better since my symptoms don't fit the narrative that we're all going to die

Australia seem to have a very poor record when it comes to looking after their regular citizens during this pandemic! When they first locked down the country Australian's abroad couldn't get back into the country, yet they were letting film stars, singers and anyone famous fly in and stay. This episode seems to follow the same logic, high profile come on in....

I was ill, few days on couch, bit of tiredness, nothing serious or that I haven't experienced many times before.

I think I caught covid coming off back end of a cold, so my symptoms sort of just continued on, hence me assuming I still had a cold. My initial pcr was negative too and I only got a second test 10 days later because of a positive lft or I would have just kept assuming it was same cold.

Roll model? Is he sponsored by Warburtons now?

Accusing him of bribing medical professionals is an interesting twist.

I thought medical professionals were beyond reproach.

If they can be bribed to fake results of a test, could they be bribed to promote the use of a vaccine?"

The reason why vaccines usually take many years to develop is down to funding, not science.

Usually, what happens is that a research team develops an idea, and then seeks funding to start a project. They create their first vaccine to test, and then seek funding to start a trial. They then start a phase one trial and use the results to seek funding for moving to Phase two, etc... It often takes months/years to obtain the funding required to move on.

With these covid vaccines, governments were throwing money at researchers and drugs companies to get them to develop a solution. Funding was never an issue, and as soon as potential solutions were in development orders were placed & paid for... providing more money to get the products ready.

As the conspiracy nuts like to say, follow the money. In this case it shows exactly how a vaccine can be created "so quickly".

Were the players that caught Covid forced to play? They could've pulled out if they weren't happy.

If they were vaccinated, the vaccine will have given them 'far more protection'* from the virus.

You're right, throwing a ton of money at it accelerates the build process.

However, it doesn't buy you time to prove the vaccine is safe in the long term.

I'm not sure how you make sure a vaccine, or any medicine for that matter, is "safe in the long term" without actually giving it to people and monitoring it.

There were circa 40,000 people who volunteered during the trial. They're still being monitored today and showing no adverse reactions.

How many people have to die of covid while we wait God knows how many years for a vaccine to be safe enough to administer? Not that any medicine is 100% Safe.

The majority (certainly not all) of the ongoing discussion around the safety of the covid vaccines is down to one thing. A lack of trust.

Trust in government.

Trust in big pharma.

And the problem is that govts (and in particular ours in the UK this past two years) and big pharma have serious form for lying, deception, malpractice and corruption.

And yet suddenly because of the pandemic we are told they need to be trusted.

When you see govt officials flouting the rules, driving to “test their eyes”, not wearing masks, having parties, playing with their mistress etc some people will wonder what they know that we don’t? It feeds the conspiracies.

When you see govt corruption that results in the largest transfer of public assets into private hands in history, some people question their motives.

When you have the scientists working for pharma tell you their research and testing is totally sound and that they know xyz about efficacy, dosage/frequency etc only to then have this revised at what would appear to be a convenient moment, some people will have doubts.

When you see govt “listening to the science” when it suits but ignoring it when it doesn’t (such as 6 week delay to closing border to India), some people will be concerned our leaders do not really have our best interests at heart.

When you see govt pushing legislation through that severely damages/limits our rights, or seeking to change the electoral system in such a way that it only benefits those already in power and doing so during a global public health emergency (ie people are distracted), the some people will be worried about where this is all leading

Trust is very hard to earn (although going by some on here that statement seems completely wrong) and very easy to lose.

I have said it many times on here (getting boring I am sure) but always follow the money.

While I actually do have confidence the vaccines work (but am bitterly disappointed they don’t work as well as we were told by those we are supposed to trust) and am very sceptical about some of the motives driving policy. There is so much money involved that a public health emergency creates the perfect situation for the corrupt to exploit for their own gain (and we know for fact they did around PPE, LFTs, and other med supplies).

The pandemic is a disaster capitalists and corrupt opportunists wet dream. That makes motives questionable and trust continually gets eroded.

"

So you're saying there were no adverse events at all during the trial?

I understand that safety data on uncommon adverse events, as well as medium or long term harms of any frequency, were necessarily limited at the time of mass vaccine rollout.

This then leaves some of the most important questions about efficacy and safety to the post authorisation phase.

In a document I found on Twitter, the doctors had concerns about post authorisation studies.

They also had concerns that with the focus on developing vaccines for new variants, these post authorisation studies will have a lack of data and be conducted outside of the regulatory framework.

You can choose to ignore these concerns, but some medical professionals are not.

"Exactly it's our bodies our choice,I've had no flu or Covid vaccines,I don't intend to,I trust my immune system"

Personal choice I get… but if you choose that way then stay at home and don’t risk passing on a potentially fatal virus to anyone else. You may have a great immune system, but many others don’t. Cancer patients, immune compromised such as crones… many many people you come into contact with may pick up the virus you may carry and that can have a life hanging effect.

Does that sound like I’m upset by attitudes some have? Yes….

Thank you

Any virus can be potentially lethal, influenza, Novovirus, vomiting bug, pretty much any virus at all. You name it, it can be potentially fatal to anyone. And the COVID vaccinated can and do transmit also.

So should everyone just stay confined in their homes indefinitely?

"

No it hasn't... It was rush developed...

Vaccines take YEARS to test, that's why it's managed to cause deaths and whatnot.

Honestly.

Cal

You're right, throwing a ton of money at it accelerates the build process.

However, it doesn't buy you time to prove the vaccine is safe in the long term.

I'm not sure how you make sure a vaccine, or any medicine for that matter, is "safe in the long term" without actually giving it to people and monitoring it.

There were circa 40,000 people who volunteered during the trial. They're still being monitored today and showing no adverse reactions.

How many people have to die of covid while we wait God knows how many years for a vaccine to be safe enough to administer? Not that any medicine is 100% Safe.

Winston

So you're saying there were no adverse events at all during the trial?

I understand that safety data on uncommon adverse events, as well as medium or long term harms of any frequency, were necessarily limited at the time of mass vaccine rollout.

This then leaves some of the most important questions about efficacy and safety to the post authorisation phase.

In a document I found on Twitter, the doctors had concerns about post authorisation studies.

They also had concerns that with the focus on developing vaccines for new variants, these post authorisation studies will have a lack of data and be conducted outside of the regulatory framework.

You can choose to ignore these concerns, but some medical professionals are not."

I'm not ignoring any concerns, I'm not daft enough to only listen to one source and be happy with that.

Particularly dangerous if the source information confirms my own bias.

I'm capable of looking at a variety of credible sources and forming my own opinion.

I'm particularly interested in sources that challenge my belief. They're the ones I've learnt the most from.

Some great advice given by my late grandfather, "you'll learn fuck all from listening to people that agree with you"

Winston

I find it ironic and a tad bit amusing...

On one point the Australian Government due to current world circumstances are clamping down heavily on travel restrictions/gatherings and enforcing social distancing/fines on its own citizens and vaccine mandates for certain work sectors

And yet they see this big name athlete from abroad who has had no vaccine jabs from his own free will ok his choice and body but the Australian government pretty much just rolled out the red carpet and said “fuck it this bloke will bring in the big dollars and good publicity for us”...

Kind off like a bad joke but hey ho it’s not the first time in history the more financially well off or those in higher social standing in life have been given exemptions and it won’t be the last...

"The majority (certainly not all) of the ongoing discussion around the safety of the covid vaccines is down to one thing.

"

He is the best tennis player in the world, he is favourite to win, what will be the headlines??

Well look at the headlines now of him taking part! "

I think him not taking part was more of a probability than him not winning it.

Not much of a shock for him to win a tournament again that he has already won 6 times including the last 3 years running. He probably could win it this year without even turning up.

To be brutally honest No I don’t know the reason or have any remote solid information or whatever it is why he was given an exemption as I don’t know the man or have seen the Australian governments report on it...

Fair point there are those who can’t have it for medical reasons so that’s understandable and the same way there are those who refuse to have it their body their choice and all that...

Point I’m making is though is that had he just been you’re regular everyday average joe citizen seeking entry to Australia the odds off the Australian government being as lenient to his decision to not being vaccinated and trying to gain entry to their country would be very much little to none...

Jeepers, listen to your own words: "Because he has got the exemption they can't discriminate him" and you feel for the Australian government! Because they can't discriminate against him now?

Sorry but I'll have to add a few more eye rolls here

Wow! It's because he has made it clear he was never going to have the vaccine and has been quite anti-vax now has produced a medical exemption which many are sceptical about.

"Statement: ""Djokovic applied for a medical exemption which was granted following a rigorous review process involving two separate independent panels of medical experts"

I don’t think we need to know all of his personal medical records… I think it’s a simple thing to just state for example “I happen to be allergic to something in the vaccine” which people would understand…

It would help him, but because he has been so evasive it doesn’t help the perception of one rule for him

I have another theory as to how he got the exemption… but we won’t know for sure till Paris or Wimbledon

The other thing he seems to have gotten around with the medical exemption is that it looks as if he may not need to quarantine either… so I can see why a lot of other tennis players are pissed as well

Definitely not, that is his business and the public do not have the right to that information

It looks like the Australian PM thinks the public do have a right to his medical records.

Is there any point in having a rigorous review process involving two separate independent panels of medical experts?

I don’t think we need to know all of his personal medical records… I think it’s a simple thing to just state for example “I happen to be allergic to something in the vaccine” which people would understand…

It would help him, but because he has been so evasive it doesn’t help the perception of one rule for him

I have another theory as to how he got the exemption… but we won’t know for sure till Paris or Wimbledon

The other thing he seems to have gotten around with the medical exemption is that it looks as if he may not need to quarantine either… so I can see why a lot of other tennis players are pissed as well

2 separate independent panels of medical experts assessed his application and granted an exemption based on one of the following:

-Inflammatory cardiac illness in the last three months

- Undergoing major surgery or hospital admission for a serious illness

- A COVID-19 diagnosis that means vaccination cannot be made for six months

- Any serious effect to a COVID-19 vaccine in the past

- If the vaccine is a risk to themselves or others during the vaccination process

- Underlying developmental or mental health disorders

What more does the Australian PM or the wider public need to know?

The issue of trust is the problem here. The Australian government allowed the rich and famous to travel in and out of Australia while its citizens who were abroad were not allowed in. Add to this they have endured one of the longest and strictest lockdowns, it is no wonder that people are questioning the validity of this.

I “think” the most likely of those is he caught covid again and this time did not disclose it publicly.. although for drug testing purposes I am sure he would need to disclose that to whichever country he s living in, or the ATP"

which leads to the matter being of medical history privacy. Does the Australian PM and the public have a right to access any part of this?

How much access does the public currently have to athletes drug testing history being held by the authorities…

"Statement: ""Djokovic applied for a medical exemption which was granted following a rigorous review process involving two separate independent panels of medical experts"

I would think the Australian PM does have the right to know how people who are being given exemptions to the rules have qualified. It would be in the public interest as it as created such a fuss.

Exactly that. My family all live in Melbourne and until recently was the most lockdown City on earth with much sacrifice. So this exemption however legitimate to the Melbourne public is a nod to privilege. I wouldn’t be surprised by a stadium of boos mind you that will spur him on to win it again am sure.

Very strange turn of events .

Aside from his team making an error in the type of Visa applied for, Victoria State won’t provide the Visa support being requested by Federal Government even though it is Victoria States own Independent Medical Exemption Review Panel, who assesses all applications to see if they meet the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) guidelines, who has granted the medical exemption.

Messy !

What's funny for me is that it's been stated he's had covid twice, so has naturally built up antibodies to the virus. Which is exactly what a vaccination aims to do, bring about an immune response, and build antibodies against said virus. So everyone cawing for blood because he's decided to decline the vaccination, aren't doing so because he's a medical threat to society, they're doing it because he's not conforming to what they've been programmed to believe is right, or because the front page of The Sun or Sky News says that they must think a certain way. Utterly embarrassing.

Utterly embarrassing."

You have absolutely hit the nail on the head … great post

"denied entry to Novak Djokovic, even though he has recovered from Covid and provided expert opinion for medical vaccine exemption.

This is psychosis on an entirely new scale "

Irrelevant, he was denied for visa issues

He’s had COVID once for sure possibly twice … has anti bodies and is a danger to no one … but “let’s get jabbed” because “that’s what my tv said he should do” ignoring scientific data that says if you’ve had COVID have anti bodies you are protected already …

"Good for him for standing up for his beliefs shame everyone else are sheep "

Here's the thing about sheep. They flock together to protect one another when there's a wolf about.

Not quite the insult you were thinking it was.......

See how the crowd react to him, when he plays. I can see them distracting him intentionally.

Allegedly he failed to provide evidence of his entitlement to vaccine exemption and so his visa cannot be accepted. Therefore denied entry. A bit like I'd be denied entry to Benin or Congo or Angola (or a bunch of other countries) without a valid Yellow Fever vaccine certificate OR a valid exemption letter that is approved by the border entry requirements of the country I'm entering.

Many of the students I teach must provide negative TB test certificates before they can get a visa to come to the UK. No TB cert, no visa. It's very simple.

He’s had COVID and has anti bodies… what don’t you understand ? The arguments you made are a absolute joke when used against some one who has had COVID and antibodies

Rules that have been around for decades in literally dozens of countries throughout the world.

All of a sudden this is new news and people are losing their minds.

The abject failure to understand how the big wide world works is astonishing.

If a student has had TB in the past, they still must provide adequate documents to evidence why they cannot be vaccinated etc. It's simply the rules of entry to the country. If he (Djokovic) is exempt from the entry requirements, he should provide the required documents to the Australian authorities and he'd have been allowed in. If you don't like the entry rules to a country, then don't go. Many people choose not to get all sorts of vaccines that mean they cannot go and work abroad. Mr KC did not wish to get the Yellow Fever vaccine and so he did not work in Africa when he was an offshore worker. He remained in Europe, Israel and almost had a stint in the Falklands.
