Omicron may not be as efficient at attacking lungs . . .
Jump to: Newest in thread
I was listening to a woman on the radio who suggested that early studies (and she stressed the early aspect!) seemed to show that it affected the throat and windpipe more, not so much the lungs. Still nasty. |

which also explains why it's more transmissble. |

I think the biggest concern in the medical world is someone catching the Delta and Omicron strains at same time this then mutating to a single more deadly and highly transmitted strain if this happens we are in deep shit.
Still as long as the whingebags keep their freedom's huh |

Is that possible? As far as I know, viruses don’t mutate by breeding between eachother, they mutate via replication
So how would someone having delta and omicron at the same time cause the 2 to merge? |

Just done some reading and apparently it is possible
Although very rare, but with this going on all over the world, it’s definitely a possibility |

There is a study going on right now that suggests that the strain in South Africa infected cells that already had genetic material from a standard cold coronavirus in them and that replicated into the Omicron strain
Source is reuters it's a interesting read that is yet to be peer approved |

Wait a minute, on another thread when I raised a question over having increased boosters over a decreased period of time could be a concern (ie all medicines have a max dosage in a given time period) - I was accused of scaremongering (I wasn’t, it was a genuine question/concern).
So this bit of speculation is just as much scaremongering right? |

It’s not speculation because it’s happened before |

Viruses can share genetic material between them, as a recombinant process, when cells are coinfected with 2 viruses, for example. It's more likely when the viruses are very similar. |
