First UK person to die "with" Omicron has been reported sadly. BJ says "best thing" people could do is get their booster jabs.
Nothing has been mentioned if this said individual has had all 3 jabs or not though |

Not really. Firstly, the machinery of the public sector must isn't that quick with the information. Secondly, since there is only one data point (person) it could be possible to identify them from the information required by those on here asking. GDPR prevents that. |

unfortunately someone has died and that's sad,but an average of 1500 people a day die in the UK. from what this individual died from we don't know, all we know is that they had tested positive for covid and the omicron variant. to die "with" is not the same as "from". yes I've been vaccinated, no I'm not an anti vaxxer. yes I'm fine with an individual having the right to refuse the jab as everyone has sovereign rule what is put into their body. |

Yesterday is was no one has died from omicron
Today, it's a must to see the facts to see if the dead person counts.
In all likeliness, the dead person was older with co-morbidities and therefore vaccinated....

I don't think it's unreasonable to want to know the circumstances of the person. Whether protected by GPDR or not, it's a legitimate question stemming from real concerns about the ease with which we're surrendering certain freedoms... again.
Why wouldn't someone critical of more measures being introduced want to know whether the individual had co-morbidities or was elderly? And I think their jab status is a very important point for those already sceptical.
This lack of transparency and readily available information is partly driving the contempt of Covid measures and distrust in government. |

"How do they know who has Omicron? If over 50,000 people test positive, does the PCR tell you which strain? "
Yes is the short answer after reading how they found it but I'm not going to pretend I know the science behind it, you will need to wait 10 mins for that post to come along |

"Quick, full lockdown now! "
Yep. And as a sensible and measured response we should start with the group most likely to be diving hospitisations, ie the unvaccinated. We can then assess again in 2 to 3 weeks and lock down more should it be necessary.. |

That person had a legal right to privacy, as important as anyone’s right to refuse medical treatment. You can’t pick and choose basic human rights. |

Nobody is saying that human rights are being given away by saying whether the death was with or from, the person hasn't been identified, neither has location been given.
The lack of clarity and obvious obfuscation of circumstances has highlighted just how disingenuous Boris is again. His deliberate use of the phrase "rapidly transmitting " is not backed up with any real or viable data in a following sentence.
I don't think its wrong to ask for actual facts to back up a statement of such a magnitude, it's prudent and necessary if you want people to understand and adhere to it, particularly when the harbinger of doom is such an ardent bullshitter that nobody trusts. |

The vaccination status and other issues such as underlying health issues and age of one person will be statistically insignificant to make an argument either way for the threat of Omicron. Only in 3-4 weeks will we have enough data to make the case, so we just all need to slow down and not jump to one case to try and prove the value for and against. Your comment that their jab status is important for "those already skeptical" shows bias towards a preconceived position that vaccines don't work and the skeptical are willing to accept one case as evidence. That is not science or evidence-based. The jab status of everyone who dies from Omicron over the next few weeks is important to everyone, not just the skeptical, so that we all know and understand what we need to do to protect ourselves. We need to stop putting trying to "win" the argument from a point of bias, focus on the evidence from valid sources when its statistically significant, and protect ourselves and our loved ones. |

As they have found in SA, complancy towards the Omicron variant has lead to a rise in Delta infections. This seems to be the concern, as people lower their guard thinking the Omicron isn't that bad, but forgetting Delta is still with us.
This could lead to very few dieing of Omicron variant itself but cause more to catch the Delta variant and die of that variant. Technically, Omicron has the potential to cause more deaths, not from itself, but complancy towards it. |

I don't expect people to be experts in GDPR, but there are exemptions, including where there are safeguarding or public health concerns. So for the person who mentioned GDPR - that wasn't the point I was making, though I mentioned it because I knew someone would go on about personal privacy.
For the person who asked which freedoms were being surrendered, I'm going to assume that was sarcastic as most would recognise the medical apartheid forming in certain parts of the world, creating a two-tier citizenship model, and the implications that has. |

"How do they know who has Omicron? If over 50,000 people test positive, does the PCR tell you which strain? "
Funny enough there is actually a line that appears on a PCR test if someone has omicron that doesn’t if they have Delta, but other than that certain specimens are sent to labs to confirm…
Speaking of which my sister has now been sent an text to self isolate because she has been in contact with someone who has omicron.. bearing in mind that her lodger has covid, and it looks as if she has passed it onto my niece, who can’t have a jab because she has a compromised immune system, my sister, who works for the nhs double jabbed plus booster, is at the moment showing as being negative
Thank god they are showing as mild symptoms at the moment |

"How do they know who has Omicron? If over 50,000 people test positive, does the PCR tell you which strain? "
It carries specific mutations that make it genetically very distinctive from the Delta and other variants. They are carrying out genetic sequencing of samples in a targeted manner to ascertain the strain. With current technology, this can be done reasonably quickly compared to the analogue methods of yesteryear. |

It wasn't sarcasm, it was a genuine question. you said we are surrendering our freedoms again, I know of no freedoms we have given away or been taken away, and telling me that a 2 tier medical apartheid system is forming in certain parts of the world, creating a two-tier citizenship model is not evidence of freedoms being surrendered here or one I recognise.

What freedom have we given up ?
To my knowledge nobody has been forced to have a vaccine that have the choice not to have it .
If you are implying that some are being forced to have one so they can work in the care sector, we’ll shock horror people who care for others have had to have other vaccinations to be able to work in that sector |

Name a vaccine that was mandated for health care workers which was still under emergency authorisation. |

It’s interesting that as of yesterday there had been no reported deaths from Omricon in South Africa and yet we only had our first case in this country a few weeks back and we’ve a death already.
I thought there was this supposed lag between infection, hospitalisation and then death ?
I’m not being cynical here, but Boris is exposed for having loads of parties at No.10, Omicron runs riot through the UK, we need to go to Plan B, he has to have time off as his wife has had a baby the next morning, we need boosters as 75,000 will die (because basically the vaccine we was told is the silver bullet is useless) to put the Tory rebels in their place - all very convenient to me !
If omicron is doubling the was the Javed said it is, then over Christmas we’ll be stacking the dead in aircraft hangers like the fist wave of covid - did we actually do that or was it media bullshit ?
The trouble is, whatever you believe our government and media has spun so much bullshit it’s hard to define the truth from the fantasy ! |

Experts make predictions of future problems.
Steps are taken to prevent predicted problems.
Predicted problems don't occur.
People are surprised that predicted problems didn't occur.
Fantastic the way this all works isn't it.

"It’s interesting that as of yesterday there had been no reported deaths from Omricon in South Africa and yet we only had our first case in this country a few weeks back and we’ve a death already.
Covid is the fantasy

It’s not unlike the millennium bug, for those of us who remember.
Nothing went wrong on the 1st of January as predicted and the conspiracy theorist said we told you nothing was going to happen, all that fuss for nothing.
They completely ignored all the work which was done to ensure nothing went wrong. |

So when Whitty and Vallance predicted swarths of infections that would lead to deaths when we opened back up in July and none of that happened can we still continue to believe in their flawed modelling !
Be interesting to see how many of the predicted 25,000 - 75,000 die these next 5 months from Omicron based on the fact that no-one in South Africa had died of it yesterday and their vaccine take-up is very low compared to the UK and we are having boosters on top. |

You seem almost pleased that a predicted 25,000 - 75,000 deaths didn't actually happen.....
I'm not sure it's possible to compare South Africa to the UK to be fair.

These are the predictions from the LSHTM in their report yesterday.
Can we not compare to South Africa ? - because Whitty said he’d been speaking to his counterparts in South Africa and that’s what he’d based his prediction slides on ! |

"First UK person to die "with" Omicron has been reported sadly. BJ says "best thing" people could do is get their booster jabs.
Nothing has been mentioned if this said individual has had all 3 jabs or not though
Boris hasn't got permission from SAGE to actually give ALL the facts.
Which facts would you like? "
Age
Vaccination status
Underlying health conditions
Actual cause of death |

Why? So you can assess the dangers of omicron from a single death?
If 90, triple vaccinated, hit by a bus...ah, clearly nothing to worry about...
One case tells you absolutely nothing but will give many different opinions... |

"As they have found in SA, complancy towards the Omicron variant has lead to a rise in Delta infections.
With all due respect, bullshit and agreed.
We are currently in quarantine having flown back from forced extended visit for family in South Africa. Are they complacent? Hell no. Staff santise you before entry to shops, restaurants, take aways, medical facilities, hotels, everywhere. Well over half also perform temperature checks. Masks are a legal requirement inside and outside (just look at news footage from SA for proof).
Menus and pay terminals all wiped before and after use and nearly all contactless.
All this in effect since earlier this year. Pcr test requirement for entry/ arrival from UK and sanitised and temperature checked before getting to passport control.
Complacent? South Africa take all this a bloody sight more seriously than the UK ever had in our experience.
Main issue is distrust in the government in SA which dissuades vaccine take up.
You're only correct from the aspect of complacency in the UK. After a safe, masked flight from Johannesburg pre flight pcr checked, called by row number to disembark, onto a standing room only bus to the processing terminal at Heathrow, and 2 hours later using shared pens, bare hand passport checking and zero social distancing and precious few opportunities for sanitisation, the hotel security escorted us to our room . This is our day 2 and pcr test soon. All i can say is we're being protected from the complacency of the UK, while it rips through cities and counties, in this room we're not likely to get Omicron yet. |

That information will give us an early insight into the nature of the illness.

This is my point exactly. All that has come from the latest death is they had it in their system. Not what was the actual cause of death. |

"How do they know who has Omicron? If over 50,000 people test positive, does the PCR tell you which strain?
Funny enough there is actually a line that appears on a PCR test if someone has omicron that doesn’t if they have Delta, but other than that certain specimens are sent to labs to confirm…
Speaking of which my sister has now been sent an text to self isolate because she has been in contact with someone who has omicron.. bearing in mind that her lodger has covid, and it looks as if she has passed it onto my niece, who can’t have a jab because she has a compromised immune system, my sister, who works for the nhs double jabbed plus booster, is at the moment showing as being negative
Thank god they are showing as mild symptoms at the moment "
Update… sister has gotten her pcr test back and now she has gotten the text back saying she is positive…. She has gotten mild symptoms (she thought it was a cold as she had none of the delta symptoms and it was coming back as negative) |
