"Another fine mess they've got us into.
"Flow before you go"
If they're 'out of stock', how is this possible?
Any high value contracts going to cronies?
"
In my previous life I was involved very heavily in buying and stock control. If we were promoting something I made damn sure I had a good supply on order and in stock. I was not and am still not a rocket scientist. |

They have not run out of LFTs!
Due to a surge in orders, the NHS website suspended orders this morning. This was to ensure that orders placed today, are despatched today.
They can still be collected from chemists and other stockists. |

That's the way to do it. Presumably filling up all canisters with diesel on the way out too... Just in case. |

Issue with test supply is ability to deliver, says health sec
Responding to Labour, Sajid Javid reiterated there is "no shortage of tests which are held by UKHSA".
He said the issue amid the "hugely increasing demand" was the ability to deliver the tests because the current arrangements with Royal Mail "are not enough".
Mr Javid said the number of access points is now "being increased".
He told MPs: "There is no shortage of actual tests that are held by UKHSA. There are tens of millions of tests... the issue, the limiting factor because of the hugely increased demand... is the ability to deliver the tests and having enough capability to deliver the tests because the current arrangements with Royal Mail alone are not enough.
"There are new arrangements that I've reached with Amazon and other delivery methods."
He added that the plan to offer every adult in England a booster by 2022 "does not mean every single person necessarily" will get one.
The health secretary said this requires them to come forward and take up the offer "as well as everything going right in this huge expansion plan". |

Lockdown by stealth???
There is no appetite for another lockdown. Sure people will wear a maks in Sainsburys or whatever but not full on again.
So. If the numbers 'dictate' it. Then will Plan E or whatever be that everyone regardless of vaccination status must show a negative test.
Then... make tests unavailable.
Voila! You have a lockdown.
Maybe I'm being too cynical??? But... well I don't know anymore. |

Yeh it’s quite embarrassing that people are jumping on the government instead of just going to Lloyds lol. People are desperate for the government to wipe their ass for them. |

As I've said elsewhere, I can understand why some people want the govt to fail and appear more inept than they are (hey that could take some doing)... But we all have enough issues right now without making shit up. At some point as adults we have to take a bit of responsibility for our actions or inactions...dont we.? Not least why the sudden increase in demand for tests? It's not as if this is a new thing. |

Demand has surged and the Royal Mail can't cope with that demand on their own. Other delivery companies have been engaged to take up the slack which will take what, 48 hours maybe?
I may not be a fan of Boris, but in fairness even the PM can't make the entire logistics chain move instantly when there is a massive surge in the end user demand. |

I agree with your sentiment but it's more that each time they screw up, people will pay with their lives.
I still cannot understand why the drive for jabs with a 3 to 5 week lag between jabbed and adequate immune response, yet this is the only way we're going to deal with this.
Circuit breakers, they've said today, schools not closing early for Christmas and these are known petri dishes of infection.
In the next few days, infection rates will be alarming, they've admitted London in 48 hours this will be dominant, yet it just goes on - head-on into the last resort - lockdown. |

Put all your eggs in one basket and this is what happens... Vax takes 4 weeks to be effective... During which time its even more likely to catch infection... Then after 3 months it needs boosting... So it's actually effective for 2 months... That's not going to be a way to continue.

It comes across that you haven't done a LFT up to now. How have you got this far without having never testing yourself. Vaccination or no Vaccination you still have to us LFT to protect others.

I am sure Mr and Mrs FW have yet again stocked up … give it a few days or week or so and all will be ok! and am sure they are getting their crayons out to pen a response here.

To be fair they caused the spike in demand. It might have been sensible to ensure that the supply chain was robust enough to cope before announcing the requirement to do a test everyday if you come into contact with someone who is positive. Popping into the pharmacy this pm with a code wasn't exactly very onerous though |

But that's no different is it? I mean before announcement of you were in contact with someone who had a positive... You'd be testing anyway right? I mean litetally nothing changed.
If you had been next to someone who was ill with it... And we're planning to go see your auntie dotty.... You'd have done a test so you didn't give it to her right? So what's changed? |

They changed the rules regarding taking LFTs every day for 7 days and made a negative LFT part of the Covid passport which they were planning to bring in. That's what caused a spike in demand |

What is all the criticism?
We have a Government working damn hard to try and protect us and the NHS.
We then get a new variant, new measures are put in place to try and combat it.
This results in a massive surge for Lateral Flow Tests and causes a temporary shortage.
Perhaps try and thank the Government rather than criticise them!

Negative lft has always been part of the covid pass hasn't it? People have been doing lfts to access events and transport for months. |

Thank the Government
They bring in new rules about doing daily lateral flow tests if you've been in contact with someone positive for covid and before entering busy venues without sorting out adequate supplies and logistics
Then they announce at 8pm that everyone eligible will get their booster before December 31st. With no discussion or warning to GMC, any Nursing , doctors, vaccination centre managers or even the vaccine manufacturers themselves.
The NHS are forced to cancel normal clinics, procedures and surgery and request staff reduce their annual leave and do hideous amounts of overtime to enable this to be done.
Wonderful work to all involved with vaccinating and covering roles were staff are missing, but this was a knee jerk reaction with no prior warning or planning by the Government. |
