Would you go to a gig at the moment?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Would you go to a big gig at the moment? I’d be interested to hear the thoughts of people with tickets for an upcoming gig, has anyone had second thoughts and decided not to go? Or has this not been a concern?
I think I’m dropping out of two I have coming up at Manchester Academy and Nottingham Rock City and I’d be interested to hear from others who might have been thinking about this recently!

"Yep 100% would go to a gig/rave/festival, chance of me dying quite slim chance of me having a good time quite high so the odds are in my favour " also love rock city in Nottingham so deffiently would go. |

Shed 7 at the academy and the darkness at rock city. I actually saw shed 7 earlier this week. But now that it’s getting close to Christmas I’m not living the idea of possibly having to end up isolating!
I’m sure that I won’t die but my mum is severely immunocompromised. I’m not seeing her until the 29th though |

I am not missing out on any live music. From small venues to large arenas. The first chance I had to get out and see bands, I was there.
You just need to be sensible. You sanitize regularly. You wear a mask when you need to or even through the gig, whatever makes you feel save. You get vaccinated and boosted etc.
The chances of catching any virus is reduced if you take precautions.
And you have the same chance of catching any virus anywhere else.
Whether it be on a bus, train, Shop, pub or a gig. ![](/icons/s/2/cute.gif) |

Thanks and yeah I’m thinking things through at the moment. I’m not convinced about the risk being the same in these various different places though. My friend likened having a bottle of sanitiser in certain environments to having an unopened pack of condoms on the side at an orgy haha. No doubt that these things help us feel safer though |

Yes I have been recently, and will again when I find a band I’d like to see.
I had the same thought OP, but then realised I get on trains for work which have been busy. I Realised I’m taking a risk for work so I should apply the same logic or thoughts to my social life. |

We’ve been to a couple of gigs recently, and haven’t considered not going to them! We won’t be cancelling any future ones either. If you do go op, have an amazing time, I absolutely love Shed 7 Miss pc |

I would go to any and everything i fancy going to. I don’t see any likelihood of this virus miraculously disappearing at any point in the future so we have to live with it. Anyone scared of meeting me in the pub or wherever, stay away. I’m easy to recognise. I’m the guy without a mask. |

I've been to 2 recently and have 4 more before Christmas, including Rock City (fave venue in the whole country).
I've been to 10 Premier League football matches this season too.
I fully understand and respect people's caution, but I'm fully vaxxed and taking my own small precautions I'm willing to get back to some normality. |

No. The potential for lots of people who may be in close proximity as well as physically very active, increases the pot for high volumes of virus materials to accumulate.
We always take the bigger picture into account and right now that includes a health service that needs to reduce its severe backlog, amongst other things. It's unreasonable to impose greater risks on others, at the worst time of year for the health of many in the population.
An outdoors venue is different. |

Same really, though outdoor football matches are different gifs.
Not going to be fighting to get to the front at gigs though. |

However as there is no indication of that happening i for one am not going to permanently suspend living my life. I don’t want to be remembered as someone who hid indoors to save others !!!! |

I have already been to a gig, went to De Monfort Hall to see Kasabian a few weeks back ... it was fantastic ... in a couple of weeks I'm going to see Stereophonics at the Principality Stadium ... huge stadium ... i have also been to lots of Prem League football matches. I regularily eat out and my job is face to face contact with NO face masks etc. I was shielding this time last year but until i'm told to stop going to gigs etc i will still go. |

Yes! We've been to a few gigs, cinema trips and busy pubs. It's all down to risk v reward for us. Live music is very important to us and we've missed it a lot. We'd rather catch the rona at a great gig than in the queue at Tesco.
We're both double jabbed, wear masks where we can and take LFTs before we go to a gig or cinema. We probably have another few years before we can forget all about covid so we're getting on with life as normally as we can, with certain precautions ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

I've been to many these last few weeks - simply because as a sound engineer it is my job.
Of course many things have been discussed, especially amongst us gig workers but the actual state of play as I type is the general consensus is we feel a bit 'safer' if anything. Ok, safer might not be the best word but in years gone by this was always cold and flu season and we'd have the venues rammed with people coughing and spluttering and snotting everywhere with used tissues strewn across the floors. And even stages and backstage areas.
Not at the minute. People seem healthier and more respectful of hygiene and basic things like that.
We have not had one issue either, either a positive case or someone just getting ill with something else. Hope it continues that way. |

I have no issues with going out socialising gigs and living as full a life as I can. Theres no extra time for any thats wasted.
Others may have a different outlook and may choose differently. ![](/icons/s/cool.gif) |

No way
A friend of mine went to a gig ( about 300 tickets sold)
11 days later he was positive with covid 19
Yes he could of caught it anywhere but
He lives alone and works remotely
So if he didn’t get it in that gig then I don’t no where
I wouldn’t go if it was me |

Nope.
Because people.
And people are a vector for the virus.
If you remove yourself from the equation, you reduce the risk.
Front and back doors firmly closed and continuing to stay in.
Didn't go out for a family funeral, so certainly not going out to a gig, as that would be hypocritical and insincere.
Gigs can wait.

Thanks, interesting to hear people’s perspectives on this
I’ve decided to pass on the two gigs in the lead up to Christmas just because I don’t want to increase the risk of having to isolate over Christmas. It’s my first Christmas with my partner and the risk missing out on everything over that whole period just doesn’t seem worth it. That just feels like the right thing for me at the moment
I have tickets to see Terrorvision on 28th Dec and I’m willing to accept the risk then and looking forward to that! |

My partner is a professional musician and would very much agree! He has been loving playing and attending gigs but understands my caution around attending big gigs so that we don’t miss out on Christmas together |

Managed to get some tickets for miles kane in Feb but... Not confident I'll be going. I couldn't give a hoot if anyone's jabbed but do care if they are infected and taking it into my crowd. |

Agreed.
People that are scared to go out and live their lives aren't likely to meet anyway so may as well be blocked. |

I went to a few gigs in October but was planning on keeping it low key with the new variant.
But a friend got in touch about a show this week in a large venue, and I’ve decided to go. I feel a bit conflicted about it but my mates are traveling so might be my last time to see them in a while.
I’m not heedless of risk; I don’t want to go back to normal just yet. But at the same time you have to live a little. |

I recently went to one in Manchester Academy (a very full, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes gig - everyone had to have their Covid pass, able to keep sufficient distance from people, even at the bar. No problem at all. Similarly at a previous gig in Stoke a few weeks ago. I’m very cautious too, I should add.
Don’t push up front, give others space, especially entering and leaving the building, avoid the mosh pit and you’ll be fine. Who are you going to see? ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Live music is one of the things I missed most during lockdown. Life is too short to keep hiding away from a bad cold. |

We did last week and it was good to go after missing out for so long (Last gig before these two was Testament with Exodus and Death Angel supporting). On both gigs they asked for Proof aka Covid passport or negative test result within 24 hours of the doors opening. Would I like it back to how it was yeah but it the times we live in. |
