If the scientific evidence for the vaccines we have available in the UK is so far inconclusive as to wether they combat the affects of Omicron or not why are we being told to have booster shots early ?

From what I've heard they are taking the approach that although the current vaccines may not be as effective as they would like against the new variant, it is best to maximise whatever protection they might offer with a booster shot.

So maybe as it's been reported by the government today on the latest broadcast I've seen that a 4th shot may be needed

Also there's still plenty of pre-omicron variants around to kill you. And plenty of people stupid enough to go about their lives acting like covid was over.

Yes, and without the booster you will still have a much improved immune response to the virus. The booster will just restore the immune response to its maximum levels.

the life span in terms of efficacy is 9 months I believe, so expect one shot every 9 months to a year from now on. I'm sure it will happen. I mean how else will the government get their kick back and maintain it from the big phara

How do you feel about annual fly jabs? I've yet to come across anyone who has an issue with them, so am baffled as to why a similar process for covid is an issue for some.

Covid is far more dangerous than flu, not only can it kill, it can cause long-term health problems.

I have booked our boosters

Two years ago none of us had heard of Covid-19.

Two years on and it's still a new disease. But we have numerous vaccines which are known beyond doubt to be effective against it. Not 100% but effective none the less.

Scientific understanding is expanding all the time. The vaccines work in two ways. They stimulate the production of antibodies (in a similar way to catching the virus). But this wanes over time (just like many other immunities).

But the vaccine is also believed to provide us with long-term protection against the disease by improving T cell response. T cell responses could help to explain why some people recover relatively quickly from COVID-19, but others continue to suffer chronic after-effects.

There's been some research on people who caught SARS about 18 years ago. They appear to have a robust T cell response to Covid still after all this time.

It's hoped that the booster jab will boost the T cell response to Covid potentially making it far more effective in the long term.

Of course we can ignore the science, believe the hocus pocus claptrap of the flat earthers, believe the conspiracy theorists who think its all about increasing the profits of Pharma giants (lets face it you can't blame them for trying to maximise profit), or believe its all about Governments planting tracking devices in each of us (why...? we've all already got a mobile phone through which anyone can do that!!).

Choice is yours.....or is it?

I think it’s a “just incase” type affair… I’ve booked my booster, but in fairness I had my letter begging of last week so it’s not like I’m just jumping the gun.

Roughly 34000 new cases a day and the vaccines protect people from those variants, worth having the booster as we move into winter

Annual flu jabs aren't mandatory (and I know they're not here, but there's no flu passport either so fuck you on that pedantic bullshit to start)

Flu can also kill, just not as many as Covid.

I never cared about people dying from flu, like the vast majority of people didn't (as if they had there would have been calls for lockdowns etc for flu, after all, all preventable deaths should be prevented, right?), and I don't care about people dying from Covid

I'm as callous as most of you are about flu

The immunity gained from the boosters is superior to prior immunity.

We know that winter has much more severe infection levels of these types of illnesses, so working to prevent them and cut the impact on hospitals is smart.

We have restrictions or vaccines largely as the tools to prevent the problems getting worse. Pushing vaccines to be developing the strongest immunity for people at the worst time, is no bad thing.

:Don't really work'.

You've missed the last few months, have you??

Where deaths and the burden on the health services have been much lower than when we had infection levels at the current rate, before the vaccines... Remember that?

The uncertainty over this new variant is because its genetic sequencing was done and was only made available just last week. It's appropriate to be cautious, rather than to promote a false sense of confidence when there is this ignorance - whilst social responsibility means that we can do everything reasonable to protect others, in very simple ways that we all know.

I'm sure you will be fine.

Australia have bought vaccines doses to the number of 14 per person so that should last them at least 7 years.

Don't worry about their immune system tho. it will be fine.

And its no issue that there will be variants.....you still need to have a booster that is not prepared for the new variat, and you will be fine because the government says so and the sheep will follow....

Coming to a place in the UK soon...

Have you seen how many footballers and young healthy athletes have been dying in the last few months?

Deaths of sports people are up over 500%. Check out the fifa players and the stats on how many have died. Virtually unheard of for so many players to suddenly drop dead or have to be taken to hospital with a serious health event.

Check it out for yourself.
