Southern England

So government have said you can get booster after 3 months now rather than 6 months in wake of new Variant.

But they have said they think new Variant may bypass vaccines.

Can someone explain logic in this?.

(My booster is due in January ), 6m after 2nd jab)

There is uncertainty but the vaccine derived immunity may not be completely ineffective, it may just be partiay effective, in which case, a strongest immune response is better than a eeaker response. Earlier boosters should thus give us our better chance of survival and less severe illness.

The way I understand it is this way.

Yes it may partially evade the vaccine.

But the vaccine also increases the body's ability to fight viruses in general. So its a win win

I'm lost too, it seems like our national policy now is to keep the population dosed up and hope for the best. I am not sure I feel comfortable with this, especially as by constantly topping up our population we are depriving less well off nations of vaccines.

Is the booster just a stronger dose of the previous 2?

I've booked my booster jab. Now I'm wondering is there any point in getting it?

It's a standard dose of Pfizer or a half dose of Moderna

Its hardly rocket science, the new variant is more transmissable, what they dont know is the severity of the illness. Might be same, worse or better outcomes.

But to err on the side of caution it is commone sense to give as many people as possible a boost to their immune stystem to fight this bloody virus.

More transmissable means more people likley to catch it but if our immune system is prep'ed then hopefully the spread is slowed and NHS doesnt collapse with in-patients.

And dont forget Delta variant is still knocking around and probably others too.
