Govt can't afford to pay off businesses that are forced to close, which means any lockdown will be ignored by many of those business.... If the govt doesn't think they can get mass compliance they won't bother even asking for fear of looking weak and not in control.
Barring a zombie level outbreak nobody is going to be interested in another lockdown, it's just not possible to scare people enough anymore on this subject.
There was also the social contract of take your vaccine and get your life back. The government doesn't want to break that as again looks like a political failure.
I realise the above has little Todo with the science, but decision making often doesn't, it considers wider issues as well. |
