LFT before a meet or club
Jump to: Newest in thread
I have a LFT for covid the day before a meet to ensure I don't give covid to others. Covid-19 can kill or disable long term, whilst a treated STI very rarely does. Demanding safe sex is commonplace so is asking for a covid test before a meet or club visit a reasonable idea?

It sounds like a very responsible thing to do.
As I understand it the vaccination protects to recipient from the worse effects of Covid but does not stop one acquiring nor passing on the virus.
Your suggestion looks to avoiding the latter. |

I have had covid after both jabs so know I am ok. It was however nothing in the early days so I could easily have gone out and passed it on if I had not known. Sex is quite hard with 2m social distancing so a checkup seems sensible. |

Yes. I certainly do an lft the morning before meeting and expect reciprication
It seems fair to consider it part of simple sexual courtesy in these times. |

"You can try demanding that others fit in with your requirements. Good luck with that. Could lead to a solitary life. "
Hardly demanding, we are all allowed to set our own standards surly. Personally I think it shows social responsibility and being thoughtful towards others. I would happily reciprocate if it was asked for, in fact I would do an lft anyway to offer some reassurance to the other person, them doing the same for me is a good thing. |

Kind of assumed that's what people were doing anyway? Doesn't effect me as Im not meeting but if I were, absolutely I'd do a test and assume it was being reciprocated. Couldn't give a stuff about someone elses vax status. |

"The day before the meet OP?
Think you should make it on the day and around an hour before the meet!
Day before allows time to apologise for not meeting. "

Well it is if you’re saying you won’t meet without one. Personally having been fully vaccinated and had covid i’m happy to meet anyone who doesn’t clearly appear to be ill. |

Worth considering that while a POSITIVE LFT result is 80%+- accurate, for those with symptoms, a NEGATIVE LFT result is not. At best it will be around 50% accurate. For those without symptoms, the accuracy of a POSITIVE result can be as low as 58%+-.
Now, if there were 3 tests done with 2-day intervals the chance of a false negative drop considerably. |

Are you not bothered about passing it on? The test shows if you are infected not anyone else. |

Can you guarantee that's their lft result? Only guarantee is if they do it in front of you |

You could test positive an hour later so you'd still pass on the virus, as another poster said just 30mins before is the best way if you want to keep everyone as safe as you can. |

But lfts are not 100 per cent reliable and should not be fully relied on to keep you safe. Quite often by the time they usually show you have covid you have already been infections for a day or so. So while they make give you some peace of mind they certainly are not fail safe. And if someone doesn't swab far enough back their throat and up their nose it can also give a false negative result. |

As demonstrated on this thread, it's completely unreliable and easy to fake.
You can ask if you want but won't achieve anything. |

Happy to provide if it made others I was planning to meet feel more comfortable. I’ve not been asked too yet.
Happy to prove I’m triple vaxxed for clubs.
It’s not something I’m asking for just now. X |

You can’t guarantee anything so the world would be a lonely place if you didn’t have basic trust in people a lot of time. |

It's Fab standard norm that anyone can ask for anything they want to.
This person has a preference. They're allowed.
It's a great filter for compatibility, in my mind. |

However, the reality is, millions of people have got vaccinated and are now going about their lives without testing or wearing masks. So clearly the onus is now on vulnerable and nervous people to be aware for their own safety and not expect that others will do so for them. It’s just an observation of what is actually happening. |

Yep, even when I was in lockdown and feeling the eggects of Covid, LFT showed negative for 3 days after my positive PCR.
Having symptoms was a clearer sign than the LFT.
In my mind LFT testing only really works when it's done as a group of people (i.e. School class, work group, etc) to see if its already spreading and to stop it spreading further, as doing it in the group increases the odds of a test successfully picking it up. |

I know, we just had a load spare and I was using it along with my young kids (who hadn't got symptoms or a positive PCR at that point) to give them support. |

If people are prepared to lie and risk other peoples health then there is not much one can do about but you could measure their temperature at the door. |

I think hard measures are a poor way to guarantee good outcomes, personally, although I absolutely support your right to ask for anything you want to. The same as anyone has the right to ask for anything. |

We are not talking about masks. They will not me worn at a sex meet.
It is about a person taking steps to protect others from any Covid infection they may have. If a person does not care about Covid-19 or thinks it's a joke then it raises the question, do you have the same attitude to chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis etc? |

I always do an LFT if I know I'm going somewhere, like meeting my friends for lunch so I'll do it the day before. I also do one before going to the club in Glasgow. It gives me peace of mind x |

I am not asking for me. I was seeing if others think it a good thing to do. "
It's a great idea, however, have you been to a supermarket recently and seen all those people wearing masks.
Unfortunately, many feel they are above protecting others and a shame that the human condition has become this.
