.. that most UK Media, especially the BBC have stopped reporting the Total Death toll due to COVID.

At 65,000 and rising, we saw lockdowns, yet we now continue as normal at 145-200 per day (52,000 - 73,000 per year) and absolutely nothing is said.

Nothings changed in respect to deaths, just more people are catching and getting over it due to vaccination.

Nothing's changed since deaths were rising exponentially and over 1000 a day

I find that hard to believe

70k+ people die every year from smoking and that is just accepted as background noise. The media doesn’t report on that every day either so I don’t think there is anything sinister going on.

Since when was death by smoking contagious ?

Since when did deaths increase exponentially?

The BBC have their own agenda and the truth has no part in their reporting.

But on the flip side. The vaccine makes what was an illness that swamped the NHS. Into something were going to get used to living with. I wonder how many additional other deaths have been as a result of the hospitals being under pressure.

And as others have said. Cancer, flu, diabetes, heart disease, dementia. Are all killers.

Get vaccinated. And get used to the new normal

"

Nobody has suggested that death by smoking is contagious. The message is that smoking deaths are significant but don't tend to be so newsworthy as covid deaths.

Someone else can possibly answer your second question (Since when did deaths increase exponentially?.

The BBC dont have to report deaths every single day. The data is freely available to the public.

The thing that made Covid deaths news worthy was that it was something new. Generally a continuation of the Status Quo is not considered news.

Covid accounts for 6% of deaths in U.K. , let’s also report on the other 94% , let’s have a cancer chart , stroke chart , heart attack chart , plus many more

Luckily Covid accounts for only 6%

Maybe mitigations and vaccination helped that a little

If smoking was banned then deaths by smoking would fall too, if road vehicles were banned then fatal road traffic accidents would fall, if people ate healthy food then heart issues would reduce. Maybe the government should start banning things that kill us ?

Should we therefore continue lockdowns to keep Covid deaths low or should we learn to adapt live with it ? Maybe we should wear face coverings and socially distance where practicable ? Oh .. wait ..

I have noticed an increase in the public notice adverts for hands, face, space, fresh air. I hope we don't, but I can see a lockdown happening before too long. Big gulpy sobs if we do.

I genuinely do not think we will have another lockdown. I think it is possible some restrictions will come back in place like maybe mandatory face coverings and/or limited capacity in some settings.

I don't think right now it's justified to do any of these things and I feel public compliance would be low.

I have no idea why you bring that up. The topic is about media reporting activity with respect to death rates. Maybe focus on the question?

I think it's good that they have stopped reporting on it we have to get on with our lives now and people should get vaccinated and if the government says we should have more vaccines and one or more every year that is what we should all do

63 deaths for the day, total 142,898. Found this on bbc website.

Headlines happen if there are big changes. When things are stable, doesn’t generate headlines but the data is still there.

Don’t worry, at the first sign of things getting worse, the media will be jumping up and down about it, predicting disaster.

Whilst the figures for the above post are not disputed, those that died did not necessarily die of COVID-19.

They all died within 28 days of a positive COVID-19 test, they didn't necessarily die of COVID-19.

This can make massive differences to the death rate and is the reason that the UK is really high up on the league table.

“ When a person dies, in most cases a doctor writes a medical certificate of cause of death (MCCD) which is then recorded in the death registration (at a local authority registration office). The details are printed out as the official 'death certificate' for the next of kin. The same information is sent electronically from the registration office to ONS for us to produce statistics about causes of death.

The doctor or coroner certifying a death can record more than one health condition or event on the form. The medical certificate of cause of death has two parts, Part 1 contains the sequence of health conditions or events leading directly to death, while Part 2 can contain other health conditions that contributed to the death but were not part of the direct sequence. For statistical purposes one of the health conditions on the certificate is chosen as the 'underlying cause of death'. The underlying cause of death is defined as the health condition or event that started the train of events leading to death and is worked out according to rules from the World Health Organisation (WHO). COVID-19 is the underlying cause of death in around 92% of deaths where it was mentioned on the death certificate”

Just as a comment: the deceased is examined by two doctors for the certificate. One attending, one not.

Exactly, so many people die "With COVID-19" rather than "Of COVID-19", and many have recovered from COVID-19 but still die, but because they had a test within 28 days of their death, it is still mentioned. A huge difference say compared to the way that Italy for example count their deaths.

Either way, no death is a good one.

Probably because originally they were over blowing the figures dramatically to my knowledge they've taken off over 600000 people in three separate instances could be more since the media don't really report on it being inflated figures

2 years ago, 100% of deaths were non-covid related. Now, 6% you say yet don't understand why this is reported? This 6% is with restrictions of one form or another. Without those restrictions most of us have stuck to and the vaccine, that 6% would easily be in double figures.

Where has that 6% come from? Is that average since start of the pandemic? This year? Currently?

I'd have a guess it was shortly after the time Dr's actively promoted taking up smoking as having weightloss and anti depression qualities. Around 60's I think.
