Fit to fly and returning to uk tests - recommendations

Jump to: Newest in thread

What are peoples recommendations for companies to use. I'm looking at doing a 3 or 4 night trip to Italy in December.

Checked and it says I need a antigen or fit to fly test 48 hours before going.. and from what I'm reading I need a test before I fly back to the uk too.

What companies do people recommend??

Thanks x

I’ve used Randox for fit to fly and day 2. In Egypt at the moment and didn't heed anything to enter, they do ask to see a vax cert but you literally show them a groupon voucher on your phone they don’t even stop you and look at it.

Coming back I’ll probs books a day 2 via Randox or use the existing ref I have from last time , as long as you enter RANDX and some numbers the form validates ok.

We've not flown this year but plenty family members have and they've all used Randox without any issues. Boots also offer an instore service but it's more expensive

Enjoy your break x

A few of the airlines have arrangements with some companies, giving discounts on tests, so that would be my first check, to baseline what to do pay. Countries I've been to have made thorough checks and some want the results sending digitally before the flight.

We’ve been away recently and used Chronomics for testing. The test turned up on time, easy to use and get results

Moneysavingexpert have a guide on holiday testing.

Messaged you about fit to fly. You'll need to book your Day 2 test for when you come back, but you don't need to test whilst there.

Make sure you've got your vaccination pass and do Passenger locator forms ready (I printed mine). You'll need the Day 2 test reference for the UK Passenger Locator form.

Just used Chronomics last week, £20 for a day 2 LFT you need to book it before you return to add to your passenger locator form

I had booked through express test to go to Barbados but that all fell through!

Really great customer service as they allowed me to cancel even though I had less than 72 hours notice. Got a voucher ready for my rebooked cruise in February.

Flying to Spain on Wednesday instead so no pre flight test needed but day 2 antigen which I have already.

I have used Vivo clinic for day 2 test and its £15 per person. They send you kit via post and you would need uploading test photo online after taking the test.

They say 1 of 3 does not know they have covid - so seated in a very confinded sapce for hours - is it worth the risk. the risk is not just to you but if you have older parents/grandpaerents/uncle/aunts and or family friends with weak immune sytems and u come back and pass it on to them? is it really worth the risk?

I have to work with people in close contact sometimes even when they have confirmed covid..... so to be honest... going on holiday will do me more good. Plus all my friends/ family at risk have all been double or in many cases triple vaccinated... as have I

Hi, interesting to hear that. I’d read that you were supposed to have travel insurance that specifically covered covid to enter, but figured it wouldn’t be policed very well.

Because the tourism industries of other countries didn’t get the furlough support that ours did. They would very much like you to come and support them

I’m surprised about the hotels OP, If you go through a booking site do they even know your nationality?

I’ve used Randox for day two tests….. been very quick and easy to use.

Top tip is to have your various NHS travel passes screenshot or downloaded on your phone for ease at airport security.

This seems to do a comparison of the various companies/costs. Does feel like a huge amount out there to choose from.

yes as the small ones I normally stay in ask for your home address and passport details. Had the same issue last year. Actually flew in to Sicily.. got to the hotel and they said sorry we arent accepting anyone from the UK. They refunded me instantly and helped me find another hotel but it was a pain

That’s right I actually bought some but no one asked to see it. I used the same RANDX code to come home , my friend was too scared and paid £15, no one checked anything again. Not even vaccination proof was needed.

Returned from Portugal yesterday. At Faro airport we were asked for our UK passenger locator form or "If you don't have it, your Covid pass". This must be a directive from our government. I never did the 2-day lateral flow test when I returned from Majorca Oct 30th and never got contacted.

I’m not vaccinated but I came back from Turkey a week ago and just had to show my PLT at the airport. Arriving in the Uk, they only asked to see my passport, nothing else. I’ve flown 4 times this year and it’s always been the same

It’s so good it’s getting easier and back to normal , I was in Malta last month and Ryan Air were refusing to let people board without PLFs, they had to come back the next day and buy another flight

I filled out a PLF to board but wasn’t asked for it again

near ipswich

flew back yesterday could not get a boarding pass without having filled in a plf and needed the test reference number on that for my day 2 test.

You dont need to show your plf on arrival in the uk as you cant get a boarding pass without it.

I agree with you flying probably less risk than dining in crowded restaurant or travelling on public transport were people are not wearing masks. On flights mask wearing is enforced as is no queues for loos or wandering around in general.enjoy your holiday.

This is so true.. to be fair I'd be more at risk travelling to the airport on public transport.

Everything in life has risk. You do know that covid deaths only account for less than 1% of all deaths in the UK.

You are miles out with your figure of 1%. Since the start of the pandemic it's around 10% of total deaths are from covid.

If you look at up to date figures since the vaccination programme the figures are not 10%.

If someone on the plane tests positive they will check everyone's test result and if you haven't done it then they will fine you.

Other than that you paid for the test why wouldn't you do it ?
