One group of people believes that the science and government are the ones to follow...
The other group believes the alternative media and unaffiliated scenitists are the ones to follow...
But all of those groups are corruptible, and any of you could be eating lies...
So remind me again why each side believes the other is stupid?

I believe in the scientists and the governments (even if I think our current UK government are a shambles) my reasons, I have yet to hear a credible reason why they would fabricate figures and lie, what is their motivation? What is their ‘end game’ , who will benefit ? Also, how have they managed to coordinate and collaborate a world wide conspiracy |

I think one of the problems with the divisive situation right now is people seem to believe there are only two standpoints; Pro vaccine and anti vaccine.
You see all the time people making reasonable statements or asking reasonable questions across the full spectrum of the situation and are pretty quickly put into one of the above two categories and then referred to as either a conspiracy theorist or a sheep.
I know a few unvaxxed who are hesitant only (for an abundance of reasons, most of which seem perfectly reasonable if you remove the mob mentality)
I know many double vaxxed who are dead against passports
I know one who’s had one jab and won’t take the second after the impact on her
I know people who just got it so they can travel and aren’t really arsed either way
We’re too quick to assume
We’re too quick to abuse people who haven’t a different opinion to us
We’re too quick to assume we are the ones who are right
On a lighter note we spend waaaaay too much time analysing the stats, the statements and the “this may or may not be happening” announcements. I’ve never seen so many posts, article links, YouTube links and numbers and percentages. I’m expecting pívot tables soon!
Not sure how any of these people get time to fuck?

Statistics can/are manipulated and interpreted to show the results that the person manipulating them wants to show.
The vaccine/virus compliance issues are not black and white.

I've seen the light.
All evidence can be corrupted. Nothing is fixed. All opinions are equally valid.
Evidence suggests that I'm a woman. Pah, evidence. Science changes its mind all the time. I'm obviously a camel. That's just as valid as my life experience and medical records, because those can be wrong. |

I'm pro-vax and God forbid I'd want to listen and take advice off people who have years of experience in the field of medicine. I also have no problem with people questioning stuff but when you get the whole "government/Bill Gates etc etc" are trying to control us arguments then you're just dealing with people who aren't, with all due respect, very bright (and there are a LOT of clowns in this camp).
Getting your sources from Facebook and YouTube is akin to asking for advice on hairstyles from Donald Trump. |

This. And the govt aren’t exactly going with the scientists.
It’s a nuanced situation and the facts are not clear.
How can we know whether vaccinating our kids or vaccinating other countries will be the mode beneficial?
It’s likely that new strains will come from abroad, but it’s the kids who will spread it around. |

I think the trouble with all this is we are all answering a different question.
Do I trust the vaccines?
Do I trust pharma
Do I trust the regulators?
Do I trust the government?
Do I believe science should dictate policy? And how much? And which policy ?
Do I think government can dictate to me. And if so, how much and what areas?
Do I think vaccines are risky ?
Do I think vaccines are riskier than catching covid.
In any one thread I sense people are looking at slightly different questions yet acting as though we have agreed on the question.
Anarxh ensues. |

Others are just guessing or making shit up.

I'm not sure it's binary. Its shades of grey. What it comes down to for me is communication of accurate relevant, up to date information which is credible. So as an example... Stop grouping all people together when it suits them and then targeting a unique age group, sex, race when it suits them better. Stop changing the age groupings every day... Under 45, over 65, under 18, 40 to 45..40 to 50..39 to 44...and so on...
If they don't already have the information... Provide information on the effectiveness against delta for all vaccines... And be precise about what "effective" actually means... Effectiveness to stop spreading, stop hospitalisation, stop death for age groups.
Lets also have some clarity over how effective vaccines are by age group after 6 9 12 months... As we don't want to delude people into thinking they are 90 percent protected, when the truth is they might only be 30 per cent (imagine a contraceptive pill as an example that was only 30 per cent effective... People would like to know that fact?)
Lets try and remove dogma and emotion and look at better facts that are better communicated. |

Both sides are wrong but one side is more wrong about more things more of the time because they don’t apply scientific rigour and selectively cherry pick science and data that agrees with their bias viewpoints |

I think there’s several groups of people and not just two! I also think it’s great that we all have different opinions on things, like everything in life, and love to chat with people whose opinion differs from mine, because I’m able to do so with an open mind! What makes my stubborn arse twitch is those that launch and tell me I’m wrong, look at the science, look at the stats! I’m more than capable of doing that myself without being told to do so haha! No one is right or wrong in my opinion, if you have a view then you’re entitled to it! As I’ve said before, I find the divide sad and worrying tbh. Miss pc |

One side is deontological - they are against anything that is interpreted as an infringement of civil liberty like masks and lockdowns and vaccines. They then double down on this and only look for evidence that validates their values.
The other side is telelogical/consequentialist/utilitarian and looks at the wider impact on society of covid and believes some civil liberties can and should be temporarily surrendered for the greater good - like lockdowns and maskandates. This side may believe vaccines should be optional but the moral imperative is there to have it, given vaccines are safe and effective on the level of the societal population.
You have 2 groups with different ethical systems and different values. They are irreconcilable. |

Very true, think some may have forgotten this is actually a swinging site.
We have recently met someone who is very active in the forums but in real life wasn't so vocal.
Also, searching the internet, finding a piece to reinforce your arguement and calling it research, not really.
I went on today and found a piece about hamster mortality. Am I a vet or expert in small pet death, no.
Then I would guess the majority of comments on here, most definitely mine, are just a bit of pub talk.
Good fun though, love pub talk.
Especially the next day when we all say...great night, didn't we all talk some shit... |

I'm unsure that all/most within each side believes the others to be stupid.
Also, that those 2 camps are especially meaningfully different camps.
The antivax group is separate from the hesitant and vaccinated group. I think the latter is more believing in credible scientific expertise, with the former open to anyone who may manipulate them, by expressing antivax propaganda etc, with or without expertise.
Many of us of all camps are rightfully sceptical of the government having our best interests at their heart. |

Evidence suggests that I'm a woman. Pah, evidence. Science changes its mind all the time. I'm obviously a camel. That's just as valid as my life experience and medical records, because those can be wrong.
No need to get the hump "

"I think one of the problems with the divisive situation right now is people seem to believe there are only two standpoints; Pro vaccine and anti vaccine.
I'm pro-vax and God forbid I'd want to listen and take advice off people who have years of experience in the field of medicine. I also have no problem with people questioning stuff but when you get the whole "government/Bill Gates etc etc" are trying to control us arguments then you're just dealing with people who aren't, with all due respect, very bright (and there are a LOT of clowns in this camp).
Getting your sources from Facebook and YouTube is akin to asking for advice on hairstyles from Donald Trump.
Indeed there are a lot of people with very strange views. But there are lots of people with massively varying views that don’t fit into ‘either camp’

You must be impressed at the scale of it. Somehow the whole world has been deluded into believing there's a pandemic.

Possibly a reference to the plane crash at the air show? Where nobody died? Or maybe the reporters miscounted and it was actually more than 133 thousand spectators that were wiped out, making it a worse killer than covid |

I wonder why you question the vaccines when the information is entirely public. Literally ALL of the safety data / trial data and all sorts of literature on the mechanism the mRNA vaccines use is easily accessed. There is nothing to suggest anything sinister and ALL peer reviewed work shows vaccines are safe and effective. |

Sounds like a comment from someone “double jabbed”
There’s loads of reasons why people are against these vaccines. Genuine reasons.
Just because you have personally chosen to take both jabs as soon as possible under government guidance doesn’t mean you can take the moral high ground over somebody who has choose to wait or not get it at all. We live in a beautiful age where we are allowed to question everything!
Personally I’m still choosing to let the dust settle before even contemplating the vaccines!
Few questions that are causing doubt with me…
Medical exemption?? Why? These people can still catch and spread it.
Having the vaccines doesn’t prevent you from catching or spreading it! Why?
Children don’t need the jab why?
People having awful reactions to either covid jab isn’t reported in mainstream media! Why?
My best friend has just had baby with his partner she is currently breast feeding she wants the jabs but isn’t allowed them due to her current situation! Why??

Although people can still catch & transmit the virus despite being vaccinated, it DOES significantly reduce both infection and transmission rates.
The rationale behind vaccinating teenagers is to help prevent the spread, not particularly to protect those kids directly.
All the actual data from the vaccination project is showing us that the reactions to the various vaccines are actually minimal and SERIOUS reactions are extremely rare, but the government would rather down-play the idea of reactions anyway so as to not discourage people from getting jabbed.
I'm not sure why your friend has been "denied" a vaccine, I have a couple of friends who have new-born babies and are breastfeeding... neither of who have had any problem getting their jabs. They did both put off getting jabbed before giving birth.

Answer this without screwing up.
How do you know the long term effects of mRNA vaccines? "
I don't. But I also don't know the long term effects of covid. So I am having to balance up two unknowns. I'd suggest you'd need to do the same and ask hkuysekf how do you know the long term effects of catching covid.
(You'd also need to define what is long term too). |

You make a good point and I think it's a bit of a balancing act between mother nature who is a bitch and brought us such things as famine, pestilence, disease, earthquakes, tsunami, climate change, forest fires etc
And Big pharma, big govt, media, social media, etc who have historically been led by money, market share, a fleeting relationship with truth and ego and who have suddenly now changed their spots and have philanthropy, altruism, the benefit of others and truth at their hearts.
For some, life's too short and they just want to be told what to do and move on, for others they have a need for better understanding, and for others of course.. Well they just like to stir the pot to their malign agenda. |

Possibly a reference to the plane crash at the air show? Where nobody died? Or maybe the reporters miscounted and it was actually more than 133 thousand spectators that were wiped out, making it a worse killer than covid "

You only really see this division on line I find, folks arguing about covid, vaccines etc...in my real life, most of my friends and family have had there vax shots and some haven't including myself..this hasn't made the slightest difference to any of out interpersonal relationships and nobody is going on about it, we just get on with life.
The division is much like covid it's self in that if you turn your television off and get off line, you'll barely even be aware it's a thing. |

You’re comment was bland and empty and it made no sense to anyone. And you’ve just proven the points in my very first post on here. Making huge assumptions based on ONE comment on a forum about someone you’ve don’t know, never met and have no clue about their vaccine status. You’ve seen a comment you don’t like and assumed the person making it is in the ‘opposite camp’ to you and started calling people rude and obnoxious.

Why??
"
The answer to many of these are a balance of risks. The jab us not without risk. But it reduces the risk of covid. So if the risk of covid is greater than risk of the jab you get jabbed.
Now the risk reduced with age. So at some point the equation switched and the risk of the jab outweighs the risk of covid. Current thinking is this formula is balanced for kids. So recommendation is to not vacc unless there is an increase risk from Covid. I'd imagine that for newborns the risk is higher with the jab so a precaution is not to give the jab to breastfeeding mothers who may pass it on. That's a guess.
I'd also disagree that reactions aren't being reported. Look at the BBC presenter. And there was a load of stuff on clots early doors. But I'd also not be suprised if the media is being selective. .. not because of scienec but because of policy... I see from these threads most people struggle with probability and risk analysis. That may sound judgemental but this is my job and I'm seeing common errors. As they say a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. So the absence of media articles is a reflection of how HMG view us. Not a reflection on the vaccine itself. |

And you wonder why i question whats in those vaccines when every double vaxxed person on here is rude, obnoxious, arogant with no critical thinking skills oter than to reject everythibg they here opposibg the official narrative to the point where you comoletely misread my sarcastic commentshey not all double jabbed are that bad,had both shots myself for my own selfish reasons, not for wider society or to protect anyone else, asfar as im concerned u want it go get it you dont want it dont have it,what i dont agree with are those who slag people off for not getting it and those who call anyone who has had it a sheep, arseholes on both sides as far as i can see
Don’t put yourself into a “double jabbed” box. This is what I find so frustrating. You’re having to justify yourself to a random stranger who assumes you’re rude because you’re double jabbed or assumes you’re double jabbed because you’re rude? Who knows it’s so ridiculous.
I mean could you even get a bigger stereotype. It makes me laugh. a bit like those who think anyone who wont have the jab is a tin foil hat wearing granny killer that sort of sterotype, like i said unreasonable arseholes on both sides,"
Unfortunately, everyone I know who hasn't had the jabs pretty much is a tinfoil hat wearer and some of the conspiracy theories I've heard need their own TV series. The phrase about sandwiches and picnics springs to mind. |

I’m not sure where the idea that the potential risks from the vaccine outweighs the benefits in children has come from.
That is not what the JCVI said.
What they said is that the benefits do not sufficiently outweigh the potential risks for them to recommend it for all children who are not at higher risk from Covid. |

"I think one of the problems with the divisive situation right now is people seem to believe there are only two standpoints; Pro vaccine and anti vaccine.

Are you listening to yourself..repeating the govt mantra.
Answer this without screwing up.
How do you know the long term effects of mRNA vaccines?
I don't. But I also don't know the long term effects of covid. So I am having to balance up two unknowns. I'd suggest you'd need to do the same and ask hkuysekf how do you know the long term effects of catching covid.
(You'd also need to define what is long term too). "
When balancing up the unknowns, my reasoning includes that:
(a) The virus has come about by a process of evolution, where the form that survives and thrives most is always the one that more easily infects and colonises the cells of the body. There is no benefit to the virus of the body living beyond the time that the virus takes to multiply and get breathed/coughed out onto new hosts. The whole evolutionary purpose of the virus is to destroy the cells of the host, to a large extent if the host survives that is a failure of the virus.
(b) The vaccines have come about by a process of human design, where the ones that proceed through to manufacture and distribution are those that have passed every safety test that very clever people can think of to throw at them. The manufacturing process is continuously reviewed to ensure the vaccines do not get contaminated or degraded, and that the product is as close as humanly possible to the original formulation. Also, those clever people perform ongoing testing of vaccine and virus, in order to update the formulation if the virus has changed, with any changes that are made subjected to yet more rigourous trials of safety.
So the question is really what do you have more faith in? A virus designed by the universe to kill body cells, which continuously mutates so that by definition it is utterly impossible to predict what long term effects it will have even if first infection appears to clear up (many other types of virus are well known to hide dormant in the body for years and then cause severe problems later in life). Or a vaccine that every effort has been made to make it as safe as possible, to be able to check what changes it does make to the body (ie what antibodies are produced, in what levels, by exactly what types of cells etc), and that is going to continue to be watched over.
My preference is to believe that human beings might be doing a better job at trying to keep me alive. If I need antibodies to stay healthy, I want the artificial ones that come with minimised side effects, rather than the natural ones that I can only get by surviving a virus that really is doing the best it can to kill me. |

Theres to much wrote about division and not enough wrote on how to heal divisions.
We know there's divisions, we know it's no good but how do we come together?.
Or is this it, were divided and keep getting further apart until there's a snap.

We're of the opinion when you treat citizens like children you shouldn't be surprised when they act like it.
Sage had to many social scientists working out how the state can fear you to death because fundamentally they personally believe in control and authoritarianism and sooner or later even children see through the fear and your just left looking dishonest.

I don't think people are stupid, I just think that people like to believe in order and control.
If the government line does not work for you then a conspiracy still offers order and control, just one you can object to.
For me the reality is that we are subject to disorder and chaos and that any actions are mostly reactionary to try and bring back some sense of stability and order as this comforts people. |

I'm not sure people have been treated like children tbh. From day 1 of the pandemic a lot of people have taken the selfish "fuck you" approach and decided to do what they wanted for themselves, totally disregarding scientific advice/government rules and the safety of others in society. The amount of people defying guidance/lockdowns etc showed that we have a large number of selfish (and to use a phrase from elsewhere on this thread) "fucktards" who quite frankly should've been hammered at an earlier stage and treated more like children. We'd have been in a far better place now if these people would've just done as they were told and not found any excuse they could think of not to comply.
It's just plain ignorance and disregard for others and yet those who contributed to the spread are always the first ones to complain about their "rights" etc. |

Always wondered why politicians treat us all like children and with so much contempt.
This last couple of years has put that question to bed, I'd do exactly the same.
Sadly, I've become a tad more selfish and think of me and my own first.
Will this change diminish with time, maybe.

I agree. But think it's a toxic and unhealthy culture.
You can't heal divisions by telling and legislating that people must not be divided but must all work towards a common definition of success. You have to create a culture and environment that people want to share and be a part of. We have a lot of malcontents who have got way too much and too disruptive an influence.. And a void where leadership should be. |

I don’t think anyone is stupid just have my own views. Can’t trust the government with medicine the Tuskegee Experiment is one of the reasons BAME communities don’t trust the CDC and other health organisations. After 25 years of lies deceit and 400 people affected all that was offered was an apology |

"I think one of the problems with the divisive situation right now is people seem to believe there are only two standpoints; Pro vaccine and anti vaccine.
Not sure how any of these people get time to fuck?
haha, perfectly put and this virus section is perfect example of that.
dont see why all cant come together and co-operate and work together to come to a solution. a peaceful one."
I know!
It’s because apparently one of the side effects of Covid existing is self righteousness |

Division is always going to be the case.
We are not the borg (despite the microchip rumours).
Sometimes the difference of opinion will be nuianced other times it will be a chasm.
People will have stronger views when choices that people make have direct or indirect impacts on their own lives.
So for example me choosing to have a cup of tea impacts very few people so not many will bother to challenge that decision.
Me choosing to have a vaccine whilst medically more significant to the individual, it does have an impact for wider society.
Were as the treatment for a broken leg again would really only impacts the individual.
So it's not surprising that there will be strong opinions on the social aspects of non vaccination.
Yes it's a personal choice but it has consequences that impact others.
Those who are in favour of vaccination are so because they want to limit the risk to themselves and their loved ones. Therefore, the more vaccinations the lower the overall risk.
So you can understand the strong feelings which is why we all try to influence each other.
Personally control over medical treatment is with a virus in conflict with public health.
There is no magic formula yet that shields each person individually. |

Division was ways going to happen. Neither side is prepared to listen to the other.
Those in favour of the vaccine obviously have the power of the government and the establishment on their side and will not listen to anybody who descents one bit. You only need to read the threads in this forum to see that.
I would likened it to the white feather given to men during world war 1 who were not in uniform. It about shaming them.
The anti-vaxers are just as misguided in my view but the are some who are justifiably reluctant to take vaccine but should be for a rational discussion not as it is at present a case of who can shout loudest for longest. |

I think there is a difference between listening to a reasoned argument.
Eg i am reluctant to take it as I the past a particular group was tested upon as part of a wider vaccine campaign.
And treating all arguments even unreasonable ones with equal weighting
Eg
I won't take the vaccine as Bill Gates is behind it all in an effort to make the human race impotent.
One of these has good reason to be doubtful and I can accept this would prevent some getting the vaccine dispite any health benefits.
The other is made up nonsense and you can't really treat them with equal validity |

But all of those groups are corruptible, and any of you could be eating lies...
So remind me again why each side believes the other is stupid?
" well there’s not just two sides some people just believe in freedom of choice |

Which is why I said some are justifiable.
Where I work we have a department where the first person to have the jab nearly died. This obviously made the rest of the department very nervous and reluctant to take the vaccine.
You listen to some and they should be dragged kicking and screaming to the vaccination centre, they are selfish morons who if they won't have the vaccine should be locked up at best or be lined up against a wall and shot.
Now after we got some medical professionals in to discuss their concerns and the likes most I belive have had the jabs.
It is about education and addressing issues sensibly which some on both sides are not prepared to do. |

Yep there will be examples of logical issues with having a vaccine.
But to be clear most people who object in these forums never give those logical reasons where you can say I see where you are coming from.

Agree entirely with D&B above.
It's usually.
"I'm not having an untested vaccine"
"I don't want the clot shot"
"My immune system will deal with it"
"You're all sheeple"
"People who are vaccinated are still catching COVID" (no shit Sherlock )
"Getting the vaccine doesn't mean you can't pass it on" (no shit Sherlock pt2)
Yes some people have genuine medical reasons why it's dangerous for them to have the vaccine (the same as people with allergies etc to other stuff) and everyone understands that.
It's the people that continue to stir shit with absolutely no scientific evidence that are getting people's backs up.

What about those of us who don't fall heavily in either direction, and are sitting on the fence until more information comes to light before making an irreversible decision? |
