Have just banned Israel..the country with one of the highest rates of double vaccinated citizens in the world.

The reason is due to Israel having an alarming increase in cases with over half hospital admissions with covid among patients who were double vaxxed 5 months ago.

The UK infection rates and deaths have also been steadily increasing

Is it time to admit the vaccines do not work...

Vaccines don't stop people from catching or spreading it the only benefit is that apparently they lessen the effects of covid.

This is one of the reasons why I think that Amber travel list should be scrapped for returning UK citizens.

Maybe have a look at the Israeli covid dashboard and draw your own conclusions. I did and can confirm that the vaccine clearly is working...

Vaccines reduce transmission. There is a wealth of evidence that this is the case. AZ reduces transmission by 2/3rds.

The vaccines definitely work.

The immunity seems to be waning hence why some of the double vaccinated are ending in hospital.

I'll freely admit truth but not unsubstantiated nonsense. It's better to educate ourselves, to a reasonable level of scientific literacy and numeracy, so that we are more able to understand what we're consuming from the information around us. As well as to be selective in the data sources.

My question is if Israelis are being banned...then surely the swedes are insinuating the vaccines are useless 1. prevebtibg transmission, 2. preventing serious ilness from infections after 5/6 months...Israeli admissions are increasing because their scientists believe efficacy wanes after 5/6 months.

If we also see deaths and transmissions increasing in the next months and the further drive to promote boosters as they are doing in Israel and elsewhere...surely the vaccines are useless..simple maths

Therefore if the vaccination rates in Sweden and Portugal are not that high, if you get it you are likely to be a higher danger to a larger part of their population….

You are likely to not get it as seriously, but they being unvaccinated may….as that would apply to a larger part of their population

That is why the eu are going to potential ban us citizens from coming in again

Each nation state is responsible for its citizens and has control over its border policy, subject to international agreements. You may try to infer what they are insinuating but, unless you would have won the Randi $million for psychic powers, it's best to rely on scientific evidence and a country's communication instead.

The vaccines remain the key reason you have greater freedoms today.

I think you're being disingenuous. Initially, the idea that vaccines would cut transmission was at the forefront of the campaign ?to encourage people to get jabbed.

Also, if we'd known all along that the vaccines don't cut transmission why have the government pursued a policy of banning unvacinated people from Nighclubs and certain jobs? Please explain this. Please also explain why The Queen, Micheal Gove and others implied that refusing to get jabbed was unselfish. Please address this point.

No… you are the one being disingenuous as all those articles relate to the original version of the covid virus… remember that delta is a mutation of the original!

If a mutation comes along where the vaccine doesn’t work against its PRIMARY purpose, then we are in trouble

So what do we know… we know that the vaccine works better against the original than it’s does against its mutation ( be that alpha, beta or delta!)

Does it work less to the point it is ineffective…. No!

Again… look at the PHE figures for hospitalisations that you ignored in the other threads that show that the taking the vaccine was more effective at keeping you out of the hospital!

Jesus you remind me of when herts couple tried to use the same stunt a few weeks without having the comprehension of year 5 maths to understand what it was telling people!!!!

"Although the country rolled out jabs quickly and take-up was relatively high, there are still a million people out of its roughly nine million overall population who are eligible for the vaccine and haven't taken it up.

Israel is also a relatively young country, with about a third of its population under the age of 14. Under-12s are not eligible for the vaccine unless they have particular health conditions.

That means, despite high take-up, only 60% of the total population is fully vaccinated with two doses."

"Vaccines don't stop people from catching or spreading it the only benefit is that apparently they lessen the effects of covid.

This is one of the reasons why I think that Amber travel list should be scrapped for returning UK citizens.

Vaccines reduce transmission. There is a wealth of evidence that this is the case. AZ reduces transmission by 2/3rds.

Here's some evidence you may have missed https://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/delta-variant-vaccine-covid-uk-b1898190.html.

Also, if Vaccines are so effective in reducing transmission how do you explain what is happening in Isreal at the moment?

The vaccines help prevent serious illness and deaths, it really is that simple

I'm not disputing that at the moment. We were have a discussion about transmission. It really is that simple

Jesus Christ do we have to go thru this yet again…..

The purpose of the vaccine isn’t to stopping transmission! It never was! The purpose of the vaccine is to mitigate the seriousness of covid if you happen to get it!

It’s designed to keep you out of the hospital …..

We were told initially that the vaccines would reduce transmission. Have a look at the links below. This is all documented so you can't pretend that I didn't happen. Also if the vaccine doesn't stop transmission why will unvaccinated people be banned from entering Niguclubs in a few weeks?

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/one-dose-of-covid-19-vaccine-can-cut-household-transmission-by-up-to-half

https://www.itv.com/news/2021-04-22/vaccines-slash-covid-infections-and-are-likely-to-cut-transmission

https://www.gavi.org/vaccineswork/mounting-evidence-suggests-covid-vaccines-do-reduce-transmission-how-does-work

https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19-single-dose-of-vaccine-can-cut-transmission-by-up-to-half-study-12288998

https://www.bbc.com/news/health-56904993

No … what those articles do is show there may be secondary by products of what the vaccine may do!…

That shows a misunderstanding of what the vaccine was designed for

the PRIMARY purpose of the vaccine was to mitigate the seriousness of the illness if you were to get it

Let’s try this again in simple words that you may understand

Because this variant of the virus (delta) is more easily transmissible than the original… and the vaccine was originally designed to fight the original variant! The virus mutated!!!!

There…. Simple enough for you!!!!

The kent variant was a mutation which came about due to lockdown..since viruses very nature is to mutate and find ways to infect and continue.

So if a virus is mutating in the middle of a pandemic...you think its right to jab people knowing a mutation will come that will seek to circumnavigate the vaccines

I hope thats simple enough for you to comprehend? Not so bright now are we?

Vaccines work to a extent but also that needs to be combined with some natural immunity from having been exposed to the virus which unfortunately in this country we did not do compared with Sweden who did and are basically over it now

FFS.. Its because the vaccines have probably almost come to the less effective part due to time so its time to have a booster. It's not rocket science

"Have just banned Israel..the country with one of the highest rates of double vaccinated citizens in the world.

The reason is due to Israel having an alarming increase in cases with over half hospital admissions with covid among patients who were double vaxxed 5 months ago.

The UK infection rates and deaths have also been steadily increasing

Is it time to admit the vaccines do not work... "

Vaccines clearly do work, what is shown is boosters are likely required.

Your question is very leading with that final line so importantly why don’t you express what your solution would be?

I don't know what the situation is in Israel, but if transmission rates (per contact) goes down but contact numbers go up, the chances of being infected may go up. So there is more detail needed before deciding if critical thinking has been missed imo. Have I missed something ?

The ‘discussion’ is about Portugal and Sweden banning visitors from Israel,

I responded DIRECTLY to a quote from a previous contributer. His quote was about transmission.

Fair enough, threads always deviate from the original topic or post, as did mine, as did yours

If we also see deaths and transmissions increasing in the next months and the further drive to promote boosters as they are doing in Israel and elsewhere...surely the vaccines are useless..simple maths "

"@_ungblackbull you taking the booster if its available to you?"

It's not available and certainly not in my age group.

I've only recently had my 2nd vaccine.

The evidence shows a decrease in efficacy but nothing suggests the vaccine shots I've had will in future not keep me out of hospital.

To fight this and get some normality it was important that we had as much immunity as possible and as quickly as possible without killing loads of people along the way and destroying the NHS by letting it spread quickly. The stats clearly show that this worked.

If the vaccine loses efficacy along the way it will be gradual which means that we'll pick up some natural immunity over the years. For some people the vaccine will work for a few months and others for many months. T

It's likely to continue to offer some protection longer term. T cells etc.

Yes one would think the variants are a constant instead of a variable perhaps.

Theres definitely an evolutionary trial you could follow b1 and B2 to Brazilian and South African, then Kent now Indian, each one getting slightly better at doing it's job than the last one.

Indeed if one was to presume the next variant will be slightly better again then you'd definitely concur that you'd want some form of immunity even if it's relatively small, so your choice is get vaccinated or get delta,I know which one I'd prefer at my age and it isn't Delta.

You mean compared to when the majority were sticking to a lockdown that had been in place for 3 or 4 months and many entertainment venues were closes. Schools were only just starting to re-open.

AZ stated that transmission reduced by 2/3rd. If transmision is lock due to people following the rules and venues being closed the virus can't spread very quick.

Open all the venues up, tens of thousands in stadiums, take off the masks, remove social distancing...You really expect a vaccine to be as effective as a lockdown at preventing transmission??!?

We're also dealing with a variant that is much more transmissible.

In January we were reporting 60k cases daily and had 40k in hospital. Majority Alpha variant r0 approx 2.8

Now we are reporting around 40k cases and 7.5k in hospital. Majority Delta variant r0 approx 6

You said that we were INITIALLY told that vaccine reduced transmission.

Vaccines were available from December 2020.

The articles you linked to are from April and May 2021.

The clinical trials were designed to identify efficacy. They were not designed to understand transmission.

When the vaccine was INITIALLY made available it was clearly reported that the transmissibility was unknown.

https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-03441-8

By early February, we were told Oxford vaccine may reduce transmission by 67%

https://news.sky.com/story/oxford-vaccine-may-have-67-effect-on-transmission-and-protection-remains-for-three-month-jab-interval-12206734

I'm notnlooking for ab argument bro. I'm just trying to understand a few things. Given that we know that virus has no impact on transmission, do you knowbehy our government will be banning unvacinated people from Nighclubs later this month? We know that unvacinated people will also be banned from working in certain sectors. Do you know why this is?

Every study done has shown that the vaccine lowers transmission by some degree.

End of argument.

So Sweden banned vaccinated Israelis due to the fact that they lower transmission rates

I keep saying this but...damn thse vaccines have had an effect on peoples critical thinking

Mate, it's incredible. The most heavily vaccinated country in the world is now the most heavily infected yet people are convinced that the vaccine significantly stops transmission. It's crazy! Israel is now the covid capital of the world!

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9951117/Israel-worlds-Covid-hotspot-0-2-population-catching-yesterday.html

Israel is nowhere near the most vaccinated country in the world. In fact Sweden has a higher proportion of vaccinated people than Israel.

My apologies. According to the article below only 5 countries have vaccinated more. Despite this Isreal is the Covid Capital of the World at the moment. Surley you can conceed that that is concerning and was unforseen? Also, where did you get your information regarding Sweden vaccinating more than Isreal?

https://ig.ft.com/coronavirus-vaccine-tracker/

If the vaccine doesn't reduce transmission then Israel should just be an average case country. Are you suggesting that the vaccine is increasing transmission?

"

You've completely lost me here mate. I'm honestly not sure what you're taking about.

I think what's going on in Israel is similar to what's going on in the UK, there's places having very high test rates, these places are the ones that had very little natural infection occurring due to remoteness mostly Western Scotland, Norfolk, Cornwall, lake District, Isle of Wight etc etc, life has moved on after lockdown and now we see high cases in these areas despite having in some cases a higher vaccination rate than urban cities where a very high rate of natural infection occurred, conclusion.

Vaccines+natural infection offer best protection against symptomatic reinfection.

So how best to get some neutral infection in the community without causing wide scale problems in the NHS, vaccinate first obviously, then look to protect the most vulnerable groups like nursing homes, then let natural infection occur at a reasonable rate in the hope you can develop some level of immunity in the population.

Google data. I was slightly wrong israel has slightly more fully vaccinated people sweden. Sweden has much more people that have had at least 1 vaccination. The main reason for Israel's comparative low vaccination rate is the fact Israel has a very proportion of very young people and Israel isn't offering the vaccination to young people.

Scotland's cases are rocketing way above that in England. Scotland has lower natural immunity (harder lockdowns for longer and high population in rural areas) but the highest vaccine rollout (68% vs 64% double dosed)

There are so many factors at play as you pointed out.

I'm not really suprised that those who have had natural infection have better protection.

Why? Well, because as you've pointed out many times, the uptake in the vaccine in Israel is high which means that the vast majority of those who have had natural infection have ALSO had a double jab.

you are comparing 2 doses of vaccine vs natural infection plus 2 doses of vaccine...

Where does it say vaccinated more likely to transmit?!?!

You've completely lost me here mate. I'm honestly not sure what you're taking about.

What is driving the increase in cases in Israel? There has to be something. Either another factor or the vaccine increases transmission. Which is it?

Have a read of the link below and please let me know your thoughts It appears that vaccinated people are more likely to transmit the virus now. I'll leave some more articles later today and I'd love to learn some more from you also.

https://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/309762

I'm not really suprised that those who have had natural infection have better protection.

Why? Well, because as you've pointed out many times, the uptake in the vaccine in Israel is high which means that the vast majority of those who have had natural infection have ALSO had a double jab.

you are comparing 2 doses of vaccine vs natural infection plus 2 doses of vaccine...

Where does it say vaccinated more likely to transmit?!?!"

"People given both doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine were almost six-fold more likely to contract a delta infection and seven-fold more likely to have symptomatic disease than those who recovered"

Thats a direct quote from this link https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-08-27/previous-covid-prevents-delta-infection-better-than-pfizer-shot.

Also I want to be clear that I have no issues whatsoever with vaccines. Im just really opposed to Vaccine Passports and Mandatory Vaccines. Given that we now know that the vaccines don't stop transmission, there's is no scientific basis for them. That's the only point I've been trying to make.

You stated:

And when I questioned it you responded with a quote about infection:

People given both doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine were almost six-fold more likely to contract a delta infection and seven-fold more likely to have symptomatic disease than those who recovered"

What the articles are saying is that if I had caught covid then I would be less likely to be symtomatic than if I was relying on the immunity of the vaccine alone.

The point that I made (which you seem to have ignored) is that had I had covid I would have then had the double vaccine. My body will have been required 3x to produce antibodies. The reports don't seem to be comparing like for like i.e. vaccines vs natural immunity alone.

No … what those articles do is show there may be secondary by products of what the vaccine may do!…

That shows a misunderstanding of what the vaccine was designed for

the PRIMARY purpose of the vaccine was to mitigate the seriousness of the illness if you were to get it

I wouldn't dispute a single thing you said in your latest post as I have no evidence to the contrary. My questions earlier were about transmission. Can you answer them? You've avoid them twice now. They're stil up there if you have the time to scroll up.

Not so bright now are we?"

We have to use the best mitigation strategy possible. We have 2 tools - vaccines and restrictions, that have been helping us get out of this catastrophe. Whilst we might like magical vaccines that don't exist, that will thwart all variants that may ever exist, we have to settle for the ones that have solid evidence behind them meeting their objectives. They've saved tens of thousands of lives and reduced the severity of illness for many more.

That the current variant is a trickier proposition is why out of potentially millions of mutations, these are the tough ones that pose bigger challenges.

The good news is that these variants are still subject to high levels of control, preventing serious illness and deaths.

More vaccines are in the pipeline. They will all be trialled based on the real world conditions and active variants at those times. In the UK we are remarkably fortunate to have vaccines, unlike billions who do not - they would love the protection that we have.

At any point, the medical professionals will use the most effective treatments that they have and it would be negligent to let people die and suffer, because they wanted to wait for even better treatments that, of course, in the changing context of infections and scarce availability of treatments, may never actually arrive.

It's not that rigid though. The effect upon each variant differs and there has been evidence of reducing infections, plus the context at the time is key to the results. If a variant is able to spur the shedding of much greater levels of virus material, it could make it significantly easier for others to get infected, for example.

Funny enough the US CDC updated their research on the effectiveness of the Pfizer and Modena vaccine late on Friday night

5 x less likely to catch covid vs those who are unvaccinated

29 x less likely to end up in hospital from covid vs those who are unvaccinated

But…. You know…. Science!!!!

Actually that’s not true…..as of September 1 Israel has a vaccine dose rate of 158 per 100 people of the population… bearing in mind that you need a double dose … 79 people per 100! Sweden vaccine dose rate is 124 per 100 people… 62 people per 100!

If you want a sense as to how those numbers compare to the uk… uk dose rate is 134 per 100 people…. 67 per 100

Where does it say vaccinated more likely to transmit?!?!

You stated:

"It appears that vaccinated people are more likely to transmit the virus now"

Given that we know that virus has no impact on transmission, do you knowbehy our government will be banning unvacinated people from Nighclubs later this month? What happened to the other flu's? took a hiatus and coming back this winter?

Do you really need that one explaining to you? Jeez!

hoping you wont repeat the government mantra on this too if i ask for your explanation.."

As I said, covid r0 is between 3 (alpha) and 6 (delta).

Over the last 18 months, covid cases have increased and decreases as lockdowns and restrictions have come and gone but generally, r0 has been around 1 with restrictions. Take the alpha variant. To get this down from 3 to 1 the transmission has dropped to just 1/3rd. Now take r0 for flu which averages 1.28 (source below). What's 1/3rd of that? 0.43..

So, if you have 10 people with flu and they pass on to 0.43 each, the next generation there are 4.3 flu cases...then 1.8...then 0.8....then it has gone....Except, it hasn't quite because there were more than 10 people with flu to start with.

you may want to read this article too. Nothing to do with the government...

You said that we were INITIALLY told that vaccine reduced transmission.

Vaccines were available from December 2020.

The articles you linked to are from April and May 2021.

The clinical trials were designed to identify efficacy. They were not designed to understand transmission.

When the vaccine was INITIALLY made available it was clearly reported that the transmissibility was unknown.

By early February, we were told Oxford vaccine may reduce transmission by 67%

Where does it say vaccinated more likely to transmit?!?!

You stated:

"It appears that vaccinated people are more likely to transmit the virus now"
