The meaning behind the name ‘Comirnaty’
When the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officially approved Pfizer-BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine on Aug. 23, it had to include a pronunciation guide to the vaccine’s brand name: “Comirnaty (koe-mir’-na-tee).” The name Comirnaty was constructed with the help of a naming consultancy called the Brand Institute, according to a report in Fierce Pharma, a web site that tracks the drug industry. Comirnaty is an agglomeration of the words “Covid-19 immunity” and “mRNA,” the latter indicating the technology that makes the vaccine work. As a whole, the word is intended to evoke “community,” a Brand Institute executive said. For myself I'll just keep calling it the Pfizer vaccine. |

"Does that mean that the "AntiVaxxers" can no longer claim that none of tha vaccines are "approved"?"
The FDA is American. In the UK, vaccines are still only under temporary licence.
"This temporary Authorisation under Regulation 174 permits the supply of identified COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine BNT162b2 batches, based on the safety, quality and efficacy data submitted by Pfizer/BioNTech to MHRA in the period from 1 October to 2 December 2020" |

"It is an interesting name change. I wonder if it comes the same time as they had to publish the result of the pfizer vaccine where half received the placebo?"
You mean the data that was published in December 2020? |
