New rules from today

Just wanted to get something of my chest.

My step son stayed with his nan last Friday (6th) and we saw her the Sunday (he lives with his mum and we was collecting him to bring him home for three weeks with his dad). By the Monday we got a call to say his nan wasn't feeling well and tested positive with an LF test (I'm actually quite angry with this because my sister in law, step sons aunt, wasn't feeling well and had the sniffles and said it wasn't covid as she had a runny nose and I know we can't live our lives worried about a cold, anyway she was present when my step son and his sister had a sleepover and I wished they told his mum she wasn't well and cancelled).

Anyway, I waited until Tuesday to test the children and everyone was negative, we got the call Wednesday to say mother in law was postive on her PCR.

I waited until Friday so a clear seven days since the sleepover and sure enough step son was positive, I also tested because I suspected it as he wasn't himself.

I work in a nursing home and I was sent home Tuesday as obviously wanted to wait for the results from my mother in law, so I've been off since Tuesday.

New rules come in tomorrow and there is no clear guidance on what to do if isolating with a confirmed case within the home (just an article in the independent), step son is obviously isolating in his room.

My worry is; in the time between the first test on Tuesday and the second on Friday he developed covid.

My work is confirming tomorrow when I can go back, they have said I need another PCR on day 8 (Tuesday) and I should be able to return once that comes back clear but on my isolation letter is says the last day would be 20th August and then the second said 22nd August (due to my step son then testing postive it seems to have restarted the 10 days), I worry that if I can go back early, would I get a fine from test and trace? Is the letter now null and void? Or is it those that have to isolate until whatever date it says on the letter, you have to do it? And going forward those letters won't be issued.

I'm not really after answers from here as I know everyone probably is in the same boat as me with the questions, I just wanted to get it off my chest.

Thanks for reading

Just read the same thing that was in the independent on the government website:

Anyone that was isolating before 16th and double jabbed, can leave isolation from 16th.

Seems crazy to me that they bothered over the weekend chasing up all loose ends and the endless questions my husband had to answer just for them all to be no use under 24 hours later lol.

Anyway, thanks for reading.
