Thought I’d post a bit of a light topic (that’s less likely to lead into full blown arguments - she says…)
I was talking to a lady at work who was telling me about how she used to sanitise all of her shopping and I realised I still actually do this. It’s a right pain in the backside but I’ve gotten so used to antibacterialising everything I buy I’m wondering if I’ll ever kick the habit.
I was wondering if other people have these habits they’ve introduced during Covid (Not guideline driven, but just little things you started doing) and are you still doing them? |

"I thought the advice changed months ago. That Covid is primarily an airborne virus and that it was not remaining on surfaces for very long."
I know. I think it’s literally just habit now more than anything else. I must have an addictive personality |

Ah yes sorry about that. Do you still get those then? Or have you stopped since 19th July? |

A lesson learned would be dont do it with a bag of potatoes though (I didn’t realise they had holes in the bag) turned them to absolute mush |

Yes, that's true. Fomite transmission is minimal if it happens at all. Droplet or airborne is what we need to be concerned about.
That being said, I leave things to sit for at least a few days before using them, hoping that on the off chance any viral contaminant will be inactivated. |

I tried to do that with post. Then soon went for the Sani option because I got too impatient waiting to open my pressies from Amazon |

Yes but I’m just such a creature of habit. I’ve started and it’ll probably take me years to wean myself off my antibac |

I doubt I'll give up my hand sanitising the trolley handle and picking my food from the back, apart from that I've managed to calm down on my proximity alarm for other people and have ceased giving people death stares for invading my 2m boundaries |

I used to do exactly this until about a month ago.
I've given up doing that now.
Time to move on from covid. |

I never got used to anything not even mask wearing. If I didn't wear it for a day and then go to the shop I'd forget all about it. At the start I tried my hardest to catch it due to how contagious they said it was and I wanted it just over and done with but I failed or I just never had any symptoms. |

Always pick my food from the back as it usually has a longer shelf life.
Short dated food is pulled to the front of the shelf and new stock put behind it. |

I have wiped down all my shopping from the supermarket since the start of the pandemic, I stopped about 2 weeks ago after listening to a virologist on the radio who said it wasnt necessary anymore.
I have found it hard giving up the habit but I certainly dont miss the major operation when getting my shopping home. |

I've got a tiny pouch in each of my handbags containing a mini bottle of sanitiser, a zip lock bag for clean masks, and a zip lock bag for used masks |

As others have said, I would be more worried about airborne, watch someone vaping and see the spread of cloud.
Yes, obvious hygiene such as hand washing and quick wipe in case a snotty hand was pushing trolley or someone had not washed hands after wiping their ass, but that'll more likely stop stomach bugs.

I own “the trainers of doom”... I bought them at the beginning of the pandemic and have worn them for every hospital shift I’ve done since.
They are the only item of clothing that comes in and out of the red zone so when I’m home they are taken off outside and sit on the porch for fear of walking covid into the house. When I have a couple of days off they go in a tub of disinfectant and then dry out. I think even when this pandemic slows I am likely to continue what is now a daily habit. |

I thought it was about supermarket sandwiches, my favourite being egg and cress on brown bread.Probably not the safest choice but usually among the cheapest! |

Handbag, wallet, keys, mask...
Have got some disposable gloves in car from early days when we didn't know quite what the main transfer vector was, they'll be useful if I need to do stuff that would get hands filthy.
Still wipe trolley handle in case it's had snotty hands on it.
Don't wash food packets/tins/bottles but they do get to stand overnight before being used (advantage of shopping in evening when supermarket empty). Fruit & veg always rinsed of course, but in water not sanitiser
Leave the mail for a few hours after it arrives, open envelopes/packets and drop out contents without touching, wash hands before looking at contents.
Generally a bit more paranoid about hygeine stuff that was pre-covid, though never liked getting icky fingers |

Nothing to do with Peter or his x
Just cleaning too much removes beneficial bacteria.
I believe I cleaned my goods in the bath twice, must’ve been the first week when I also wore a mask to be looked at and laughed at. Then the tables turned. |

Hand sanitising and cleaning the trolley handle is always a good idea, there are a lot of people around who seem to take pride in their lack of hygiene. |
