Hi. Anyone know the definitive rules/law if someone living in your household has possible signs of covid, but is so far up their own arse they think it's entirely made up and refuses to self test.
He's already seen myself and the landlord catch it in January, with myself going to into hospital.
I've just come home from work ( funnily enough as a covid Marshall ) and been told he's coming of a temperature. Yes...it could be nothing, but the cunt won't do a self test.
Can we, the household force him to take a test ( I'm sure we can't ) but if not, then force him out the door as he's a selfish prick in many other ways?
Cheers |

"Sounds like you need a new housemate"
Been saying that for months, but the fucker still stays here.
It'll come to a head at some point and I'll walk myself before I kick off |

That does sound like a sensible non confrontational solution to your issue. |

I would do everything I could to get everyone safe, which may mean isolation and forcing him to do the same or leave. It sounds an impossible situation for you! Now that we have general freedoms restored, I don't think there's much you can do for someone who is in selfish denial and exposing others to great risk
Definitely I would be taking steps to divorce him from my life ASAP. |

You will need to isolate if you have been in contact with them even if you are vaxed. Stop the spread and mutations |

Already had covid. I'm not watching the numbers. But if you're saying it doesn't exist, I'll pm you my address and I'll gladly we can chat about it.
Other than covid... This is him... He doesn't even wash. Buy that I honestly mean, he doesn't wash, brush his teeth etc.

I assume that he's not vaxxed either? But hopefully you are now.
Seems to be bugger all that you can legally do. If he does turn out to have covid, all of you will have to isolate and he's just cost you all two weeks wages, and maybe your health. Someone would also have to notify his work and let anyone he's been in contact with there that they need to test.
I would be making clear to him in no uncertain terms that he wasn't welcome in the house any more. |

I’d be pissed off that he didn’t wash, but wouldn’t every about him having a temperature. He’s probably got a cold.
Why on earth do you live with him if he doesn’t wash? Lol. |

He's an anti vaxxer, not paid income tax in 20 plus years. Shit DJ paid cash in hand. Not got a doctor either.
I'll see how it is in the morning before I go to work. Told the others I want to be updated if he gets worse. That's if he even gets out of bed. I'll play it by ear till I get home. |

OP
It sounds like your housemate has some mental health issues. You say he doesn't wash or brush his teeth even, these are classic signs. He has most likely fallen victim to misinformation on the internet or other media regarding the virus
You cannot do anything if he won't take a test.
We are not all blessed with super intelligence you know.
With a housemate like you, who needs enemies.
A bit more understanding of your housemate is called for I think.
Your poor housemate is probably scared to take a test because the rest of you will have to isolate and will blame it on him. If he has the virus, that is not actually his fault.....It's a er.... virus.
I is not YOUR property, you say about a landlord. So move out and maybe someone will move in with more understanding of your housemate and encourage him to improve himself.

Why on earth would everyone else isolate (that have been jabbed) when it's not a confirmed case (or even likely as he's had it before) and you won't have to from next Monday?
Truly insane. |

This definitely goes beyond wanting someone to get a covid test. You seem to have a major problem with your housemate and the issue is probably best off being resolved privately between you. Not really suitable for this forum is it? |

OP you will have to assume he has it and take precautions as you see fit.
As for his other issues, if the landlord won't remove him it would be better for your health if you found somewhere else to live. He isn't your problem and it's not worth letting a person like that get you down. Good luck. |

Your additional comments show you have a great dislike of your housemate. The fact you have posted on a covid forum and used the trigger phrase "antivaxer" suggests you are seeking validation for your own views. Sorry it doesn't wash with me (pun intended) |

Couple points here
1, isolation for fully vaccinated contacts end in 5 days. 16th August.
2, a temperature could be anything. My sister was poorly and had a temp and the GP refused to see her until she covid tested. She had a UTI!! Also its humid atn I get hot a lot.
3, no one can force your housemate to test! Its their choice.
4, as much as I dislike the anti vaxx movement and conspiracy theorists try and treat him with some compassion. If you're concerned for his welfare contact his relatives |

What a dreadful thing to say. Luckily we aren't at the stage of forced testing yet and if he's been in contact with yourself and your landlord while you've been positive and not caught it there is the chance he's already immune. A temperature isn't necessarily cause for concern unless other symptoms are displayed. Please stop treating him like some vector of disease. |

You say that you work as a COVID Marshall. I’m not sure what that entails but it makes me think that maybe you are more heightened emotionally to those who think slightly different to yourself with regards to the virus. Your housemate sounds like he’s struggling with his mental health to some extent. Maybe some compassion is called for.
If you can’t manage that, move out. Simples |

( posts removed )
To the OP, you are not responsible for a person who lives in shared accommodation, all you can do is isolate yourself from him if you think he has Covid as you can't force him to take a test.
There are lots of people who don't wash or brush their teeth , it doesn't always mean they have a MH condition but the Landlord could help with any issues you have with another renter, especially if others think the same....if not, moving is the answer if you can |

But the OP should self isolate ‘only’ and ‘if’ his flat mate has covid.
And that’s the reason why he is requesting the flat mate to take a test to confirm whether it’s covid or not. |

Or not having any spare money to do the feckless spending because of being outpriced by the cost of living and wages not catching up. Or not being able to afford the huge rents or while paying those huge rents not being able to save up for a huge deposit to buy.

Covid aside this housemate sounds like a delightful person! You could grass him to HMRC if he is working cash in hand and paying no tax! Assume he is on benefits too (how else could he justify meeting rent etc if no declared income) so could grass him to DWP as well. |

I think it is more complex than that. For a start in the 90s it was possible to get a mortgage of 3 x avg salary and be able to afford something decent in most parts of the UK (even London). Fast forward 25-30yrs and that wouldn’t get you a garage let alone a flat/house hardly anywhere. House price increases have by far outstripped salary increases for the majority of young people. |

I 100% agree with you, far too many youngsters and middle aged people complain about the system and very rarely evaluate their own lives, I know a chap in his twenties has a brand new Audi and two jobs and ones well paid, used the other manual labour job to pay for his new car! No never never payments, just got a second job because he wanted a brand new Audi top of range thing.
Doesn't fritter his money away on drink and drugs (this is far too common in anybody under 40) doesn't take weekends away in Portugal, doesn't squander it on fancy TVs and clothing.
Working class, no rich parents, worked hard, worked smart has just put 12k down on his own flat.
Inflation and depravation can be over come but you have to work harder, there problems but there not as big a problem as your own philandering and waste.
Start there and then complain about the system. |

If only it was as black and white as that
When we first started out we could have had any job and we would have managed to get a mortgage or paid the rent. Now you would need to sell your granny to be able to afford a mortgage or save up for a deposit especially in the area we started buying in . Not everyone can or does have opportunities to get a better paid job and even if they did, who would do the jobs that they leave but it doesn't mean they don't work hard enough in what they do.

Getting back on track -
Get yourself tested and anyone else who will do this with you - PCR is best.
Follow the guidelines if you test positive.
Try to keep away from this guy in your flat.
Isolate where possible in your flat.
Sterilise surfaces and keep windows open.
Nothing gets the point across more than doing what you know is correct t and socially cutting off those who don't.
Hopefully seeing everyone doing this and leaving him will help him revaluate the scenario.
Ignore those who tell you COVID isn't an issue now. |

"Bloody hell this thread turned into the Daily Express readers page.
What does that mean?"
How the youth of today just need to work harder, and magically they will be able to buy that house.
It’s normally the view of people who bought their houses when they were affordable and they could survive on one wage. |

I've just come home from work ( funnily enough as a covid Marshall )
And get this:
I've just come home from work ( funnily enough as a covid Marshmallow)
Not sure what is going on in my head

In which case, you seem to be wrong on your assumption in this case as the old fogey like us who could afford to have one working and one bringing up the children while buying a house are defending the youth of today and how hard it can be and the younger person is saying they should just work harder as they mustn't be working hard enough |

"Hi.

I actually can't believe some of the responses on this post!
This sounds like a horrible situation.
I would hope somebody who lived in a house they share would take a test even if they don't think they have it just to reassure everyone else.
There isn't much you can do other than look after yourself as best you can and try and stay out of his way but it sounds like a frustrating situation. |

In regards to people saying you just have to work harder so you don't have to live in a shared house, that is absolute rubbish and shows the people making comments like that do not live in the real world. |

Why is it time wasted?
Just seems to me lots of people on this post seem to think this OP is in the wrong and I don't think he is in the slightest for being concerned about this. |

If those around them take all the ‘ precautions’ what’s the harm in him not testing ?

As the other party is the instigating force in this scenario, is there a reasonable and equitable solution you could negotiate with them ? Could a solicitor arbitrate a solution ?
Can both parties co-exist in a safe and controlled manner, in their own home ?
Imagine it was your partner, for example. Do you kick them out the house or make provision and accommodation for them ?
I know several families doing exactly that with poorly family members being confined to their rooms, whilst they deal with the virus.
Hoping it all resolves amicably. |

Christ i cannot believe some of the comments in this thread. The OP has had covid once and ended up in hospital, we don't know how much damage that has done to him but i can bet it was bloody frightening. We have all heard stories about people getting covid twice so we know it can happen, and in some cases it has been considerably worse second time around.
The OP is having to share house wirh someone that is manifestly ill but refuses to do even a free and painless ten minute test that could at least alay some of the fears of the others in the house. And what do we get? Half the posters saying that the OP is lazy and if he worked properly hard he could have a house of his own. Well none of you lot know shit about his circumstances and all of you have had your empathy removed.
The other half of the posters are saying that he is the one being unreasonable, worrying about the possibility of catching a disease for the second time that might have come close to killing him first time around. I can only hope that one day you find yourselves in a similar situation and that you too get the sympathetic advice of "well why don't you piss off and live in the street then".
There are 130 thousand people died of this disease in the UK over the last 18 months. It is bloody frightening for everybody, especially those that have already had a near miss with it. The OP asks for help with how he might try to resolve the situation, and you lot just rip him to shreds. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
And you know what? If the OP was a good looking single female, three quarters of the nasty posts on here would have been white knight sympathy instead. Unbelievable.
OP, I hope that you are ok and that you find some way to make it through what is obviously an incredibly stressful time. Please just try to ignore all the crap that has been posted by some of those above. With supportive thoughts, Polly xxx |

Stay away from him thank him for not testing and go get on with your life. If your really that worried quarantine yourself in your room to protect yourself and others for ten days. Well done you sir. |

From Monday 16th double jabbed close contacts don't need to self isolate household members still do though " actually I have just re read all the detail and as of Monday as long as you are double jabbed you do not need to isolate if close contact household member or not.
So therefore in reality test and trace should now close and save us millions as there is no point to it surely. |
