It's more complex than that. Hopefully this link is allowed. https://unherd.com/2021/06/does-long-covid-really-exist/

More the complications bought on from it. Therefore you wont test positive from a test once the virus has left the body?

"Long term viral effects are definitely real. That said, I’m certain plenty of lazy people will latch on to this as they do with any vague condition or syndrome and use it as an excuse. Many others who genuinely have long term side effects will just get on with their lives without moaning. Very little you can do about this kind of thing but they do often get better over time." I've had no choice but to get on with my life. In a bid to get fit again rejoined the gym about a month ago. It's just ridiculous takes me days to recover from what I would class as a very easy session. I've been using the gym off and on for about 35 year's and regularly 4/5 days a week for the past ten years. Prior to that I took part in triathlons ultra marathons, marathons swimming, cycling and various other activities around 20/30 HRS a week exercise. So I'm not coming from a complete couch potato and know my body and it's capacity very well. Had covid bad last October, since then I feel like a wheezing, aching mess, my aerobic capacity is extremely limited as an asthmatic my peak flow is down. I get tired walking up stairs when I say tired my legs are on fire after two or three steps. And the brain fog plus the effects on my nerves have been debilitating. I'm a(was) big strong active guy, with a physical job, look after my diet, exercise regularly. Now I feel like a shell of a man. But I'm not going to give in, I'm not going to let it win, I'm going to keep fighting and plugging away. Much like the many ironman triathlons I have completed it's just about moving forward keep putting one foot in front of the other. Sadly many others are far worse. My sister can barely get out of bed!! It's real all I ask is that people show a little compassion and less cynicism. Peace and love xxx

"With long covid being such a new issue, and with some people getting it and others not (without there being common indicators to suggest a link) I think the big worry would be long Covid being treated with the same suspicion as fibromyalgia I know a guy from the gym (hospital worker) who is suffering from long covid. He was a strong lad, hard worker. He's put on his feet and cant see a way back to normality" well I think the difficulty is for some understanding the truth about how covid attacks the body. For me it felt like a herd of stampeding elephants rampaging through my body. Yes whilst many things will return to normal and fully recover many things will never be the same and the landscape has been permanently altered. I count myself fortunate that I can still discuss this, I lay awake some nights going over the week's I was unwell when I had covid and just don't understand how I was able to get through it and how the fuck I managed to stay out of hospital, but I think that was more down to availability of resources than choice. Many aren't here to have this conversation and I believe that people are genuinely ignoring the deaths of thousands of people just to satisfy their own agenda.

E Medically diagnosed without a diagnostic test for long covid...you are having a laugh " From the NHS website; Long-term effects of coronavirus (long COVID) For some people, coronavirus (COVID-19) can cause symptoms that last weeks or months after the infection has gone. This is sometimes called post-COVID-19 syndrome or "long COVID". About long COVID. How long it takes to recover from COVID-19 is different for everybody. Many people feel better in a few days or weeks and most will make a full recovery within 12 weeks. But for some people, symptoms can last longer. The chances of having long-term symptoms does not seem to be linked to how ill you are when you first get COVID-19. People who had mild symptoms at first can still have long-term problems. Symptoms of long COVID. There are lots of symptoms you can have after a COVID-19 infection. Common long COVID symptoms include: extreme tiredness (fatigue) shortness of breath chest pain or tightness problems with memory and concentration ("brain fog") difficulty sleeping (insomnia) heart palpitations dizziness pins and needles joint pain depression and anxiety tinnitus earaches feeling sick diarrhoea stomach aches loss of appetite a high temperature cough headaches sore throat changes to sense of smell or taste rashes I'd suggest these (and of course Covid itself) are diagnoseable conditions. I hope that helps. E

Clearly not a chap to let things beat you, inspiring read and really wish you all the very best. Second thing a question (you may prefer not to answer as personal) - you were obviously very fit and it sounds like you ate a healthy diet. Are you aware of any underlying health conditions that may have made you more susceptible to Covid, and in this case more importantly, long covid? Just find this all so worrying and fascinating at the same time. Generally speaking it appears that the vast majority of people most impacted by covid have been old, obese or have pre-existing/underlying health conditions. It goes against common sense that fit and healthy people should be so adversely effected but there are clearly many examples of just that. We need to know why?

"It’s like any syndrome, something diagnosed by how the person feels, rather than by any medical test, so yes it’s real and yes it’s in the mind, like many illnesses mine and body are interconnected. I’ve had flu, malaria and Covid and they all leave you weak and tired for weeks and weeks " I have a (luckily) very rare genetic syndrome which is most definitely not in the mind not anything to do with the mind. A syndrome is a set of medical signs and symptoms which are correlated with each other and often associated with a particular disease or disorder. Unfortunately the term syndrome, disease and disorder are often end up being interchanged and used wrongly.

Following Covid I lost all get up and go, but still got out and did training (but nowhere near at the level I had). Finally went to see the doctor and Covid left me with diabetes and dangerously high blood pressure

"Dunno. But its certainly been milked. A fella down the road declared himself as having long term covid health issues 2 weeks after testing positive (that was a year ago) hes not been to work since, he insists he can work from home but not in the office as that will be to much for him. He holds a very high position with social services in our area so nobody is questioning him. But funny enough he manages golf/dog walking/shopping/car washing/gardening with no problems, not to mention the new big gated drive way hes just built himself, Mrs C" There will always be people who will use any excuse to be lazy, and that paints genuine sufferer's as "fakers" which is a nightmare
