Symptoms updated for fully vaccinated.
Jump to: Newest in thread
Was reading an interesting article by the people behind the zoe app.
Saying that in people that are fully vaccinated the top symptom is actually sneezing now with a persistent cough way down the symptoms list.
Thought perhaps some would find this it interesting... this is taken from a real world study that is ongoing.
Not sure if I can share the actual link... it's from the zoe app though
******* this is what it said
Generally, we saw similar symptoms of COVID-19 being reported overall in the app by people who had and hadn’t been vaccinated. However, fewer symptoms were reported over a shorter period of time by those who had already had a jab, suggesting that they were falling less seriously ill and getting better more quickly.
Here is the current ranking of COVID symptoms after 2 vaccinations:
HeadacheRunny noseSneezingSore throatOther
The previous ‘traditional’ symptoms as still outlined on the government website, such as anosmia (loss of smell), shortness of breath and fever rank way down the list, at 11, 29 and 12 respectively. A persistent cough now ranks at number 8 if you’ve had two vaccine doses, so is no longer the top indicator of having COVID.
Curiously, we noticed that people who had been vaccinated and then tested positive for COVID-19 were more likely to report sneezing as a symptom compared with those without a jab.
If you’ve been vaccinated and start sneezing a lot without an explanation, you should get a COVID test, especially if you are living or working around people who are at greater risk from the disease.

"Thanks for that, really good to know." on the app it's got the blog with the symptoms people have actually reported then tested positive for when they have had one jab and those unvaccinated..
My granddaughters teacher thought she had bad hayfever and turns out it was covid... sure I remember someone on here saying the same too.. they only picked up that she was positive due to the regular testing at the school xx |

Yes, I remember someone saying about sneezing, too.
I wonder why the symptoms change. |

" unsure... perhaps it is the variant and that's why the delta variant is so much easier to pass around..after all it does belong to the same basic family as the common cold and that passes itself around so much due to sneezes and poor hygiene around sneezing... I'd hope mask wearing would help a bit but barely saw anyone wearing one while out today x |

It'll be the differing pathogenicity of the variants and the way the virus interacts with the different cell types in the respiratory system. Sneezing is a useful symptom to cause - propels viral particles a lot further and more widely than coughing and only requires infection of the upper respiratory structures to achieve spread in the secreted droplets or aerosols. |

I'd call the virus clever, but I know better than to anthropomorphise it |

"Sounds very life threatening "
It's far less life threatening to fully vaccinated people, who are the ones experiencing the less severe symptoms. Which was the whole objective of the vaccines (to reduce incidence of severe disease and hospitalisation). |

"Sounds very life threatening " perhaps not to those that have had the vaccine but could well be to some others. Just highlighting that it seems to be changing, as we need to stay vigilante.
I feel if my antihistamines stop the sneezing then I'm okay but then I also have regular tests both pcr and lft a week.

Can you have long covid without having a really bad dose of covid in the first place? I have got a few ongoing things but it’s been put down to something else. I wouldn’t say I had covid at all…just a couple of mild bugs. But this list is making me think… |

Nope not even a related virus. Flu is not a Corona virus.... and to be honest sneezing is not a common symptom of the flu either. Sneezing is more commonly reported with the common cold ... now the common cold is the same virus family as covid 19 but not the same virus. Covid 19 is much more serious |

"What about the people who following a clot have had a stroke"
Well yes, blood clots and strokes are definitely complications that occur in some people suffering from Covid. Though I think this thread was supposed to be more about the early symptoms that can be used as diagnostics for Covid, rather than the myriad horrible ways that the disease can develop and kill or maim people.
I remember Mrs KinkyCouple some time ago quoting actual figures for the dangers of clots and strokes associated with Covid, I couldn't tell you the numbers now, but it was pretty horrendous and another reason that made me want to get vaccinated at the earliest possible moment. |

Okay, so....
From The Pharmaceutical Journal, article title "Risk of rare blood clot up to ten times higher in COVID-19 infection than after vaccination" cites an Oxford University study which demonstrates the incidence of cerebral sinus clots (the very rare ones associated very rarely with the vaccines) is approximately "39 in 1 million patients. This is 8–10 times higher than the risk associated with the COVID-19 vaccines currently in use, where CVT occurred in 4 in 1 million people who received one of the mRNA vaccines and in 5 in 1 million people who received the first dose of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine."
Thromboembolism in general (blood clots of any type) "occur in up to one-third of patients with COVID-19, which are predominately pulmonary emboli, and are associated with more severe disease and increased mortality." From the BMJ/Thorax Journal, article entitled "COVID-19, immunothrombosis and venous thromboembolism: biological mechanisms." This is replicated in the findings of a study from UC San Diego Health, a summary of which can be read at article entitled "Study: COVID-19 Infection Combined with Blood Clots Worsen Patient Outcomes."
Incidence of strokes: "The hypothesis that COVID-19 contributes to stroke risk differently depending on severity of illness, with patients with more severe illness experiencing a higher risk of stroke, is supported by the findings that stroke occurred in 5.7% of patients with critical illness in comparison to 0.8% of patients with milder COVID-19 disease," from a study published in The Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery, entitled "Ischemic stroke in COVID-19-positive patients: an overview of SARS-CoV-2 and thrombotic mechanisms for the neurointerventionalist."
Also of note to anyone thinking they're young and therefore invincible: "COVID-19-positive patients presenting with LVO had lower rates of pre-existing cardiac comorbidities and were actually younger than their COVID-19-negative counterparts" - this is from the last study cited above, which contains a lot of interesting information about the mechanisms of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular injury in Covid infection. |

With pollen counts really high not many going to take notice of a sneezing fit this time of year. I suffer every summer with hay fever especially cutting the grass. |

This is why regular LFTs are being recommended, as a way to try and capture some of the asymptomatic or those who think their sneezing is hayfever (yes, I know LTFs aren't being recommended for symptomatic people, but if you believe you have no COVID-19 symptoms and just hayfever.......) |

We have now seen 3 of the local school teachers find that they had covid. And it was only due to regular testing that they knew as they thought it was hayfever x |

No not hayfever that goes with antihistamines covid doesn't please do atleast try and keep up with the conversation and denying that the virus exists really won't help you any |

" if it goes with antihistamines then it is probably hayfever.. however many are currently thinking its hayfever but then finding when they test that its covid. So it's worth testing just to make sure. ( as its free and takes 5mins at most) pcr test would be preferable but lft at a pinch |

"Is summer about to be cancelled for Hayfever? " wouldn't imagine so... as if its just hayfever antihistamines sort it and you wont test positive for covid 19 for just hayfever but they have found that in fully vaccinated sneezing is now one of the top symptoms

Who denied anything?
I was saying that sneezing does not immediately indicate you have Covid.. It's the height of hay fever season. I get it every year. Antihistamines clear it up.
Do try and keep up! |

Yes I was exactly the same sneezing and runny eyes. Which unfortunately I could not personally differentiate from my hay-fever symptoms. This led me to be out and about a day or more than I should. The only indicator that made me feel otherwise was a splitting headache |
