Apparently a recent study is saying approx 2 million people are suffering for Long Covid.
That is an insane mumber if true!

*May* have.
Equally *may not* have.
Additionally many of the symptoms of Long Covid are consistent with mental health illnesses such as anxiety and depression (which themselves can be caused by grief, lockdowns, loss of income etc)
Many of those people will also have fully recovered from Long Covid which is defined as symptoms for longer than 12 weeks.
A non-story until properly defined and quantified. |

You could say that, but you would be wrong. Long Covid is known to affect only a very small proportion of those who have had Covid.
Indeed the NHS estimates about 60,000 currently have it:

The after effects could be devastating. It's a concern. |

I think the point is they havent recovered...after the arbitrary 12 weeks ..and a group of doctors that see things that dont fit with the conventional wisdom of what diseases look like ..and thinking it's a psychological issue because there arent any tests to show the person is sick...

https://www.news-medical.net/news/20210618/Alarming-COVID-study-indicates-long-term-loss-of-gray-matter-and-other-brain-tissue.aspx
Scans of peoples brains before and after covid show some of them have suffered a loss of brain tissue in the areas of the brain that deal with taste and smell...and there was no correlation with severity of symptoms ...
It was not luck...but it wasnt long ago that this would never have been discovered, the tests/ technology are relatively recent...
Shows the capacity of a virus do do serious things even when people have apparently mild symptoms...
Concepts like this are a radical change to the way the world of medicine thinks about disease ...

There has been one study involving MRI brain scans of post-covid patients, over a period of longer than a year. The sample size was not huge, so the findings cannot be treated as definitive, but there were certainly indications of physical damage developing within the brains of individuals who had even very minor covid symptoms. Areas affected included those responsible for memory, cognitive processing, behaviour and emotions.
Much more research and larger studies are needed, but this could be a warning of a coming storm of mental illness and early dementia directly attributable to the covid epidemic. |

Maybe you need to work on what constitutes a reliable source?

Oh that's based on a reliable study, yet to be repeated and peer reviewed...but based on the uk bionank and funded by the welcome trust...it also adds to the numerous papers published in reputable journals the Lancet, nature etc on the impact of covid on the brain..in some patients

I've had long covid since march 2020 .. it's nearly killing me ..
These people have borderline mental health problems which of course is so often talked about these days that everybody seems to suffer from that too..
Tiredness is not a symptom of note, everything you do or get or don't do or don't get makes you tired .. |

It also says it's likely to be higher and will increase as more people are infected, I also think they collected that data from a report from October 2020.
There are enough people affected that they are setting up specialised long covid clinics for those suffering. |

"Long covid is a new name for post viral syndrome which has been around since the existence of humans."
And wouldn't it be wonderful if people who suffer get the recognition they need - and wouldn't it be terrible if we ignore the high cost this seems to have on people |

I can only speak for myself but after I had covid my brain was mush for about 4 months afterwards. I found retaining information really difficult and had to change all my passwords as i'd forgotten them.
I also got tired more easily.
I was one of the lucky ones. |

Yes I do as I've got family and friends who are currently dealing with it, for them it is shit..
To blatantly disregard and question the reality of another's state of health whatever the reason because it's something that doesn't affect you is not a good look..

You'd have to check out the data from the right sources. He's 1 of many there involved with statistical modelling etc. In the UK, after a slower start, Long Covid became more apparent as a substantial problem, sometimes after hospital treatment, others after asymptomatic infection - the whole spectrum, including amongst otherwise healthy children. The various NHS bodies and others are assessing and dealing with the high levels of the problem. The issues are also being published in the respected literature too. |
