"Why is covid so bad up there again?"
As with every other health situation the north has been historically poorer than the rest of the U.K.
I'd suggest that higher rates of deprivation is the root problem. |

"Why is covid so bad up there again?"
Lots of selfish people travelling to India and Pakistan for "family reasons".
Lots of selfish people refusing the vaccine.
Lots of people living in poor and overcrowded housing.
Lots of people who can't work from home.
Lots of people ignoring the rules.
Lots of people in more than one of the above groups. |

Yes, this is probably the reason, covid maybe sits ready to pounce on northerners flat caps and in the fur of their whippets and makes its move while they’re int t pub drinking stout |

Essex where I am originally from will have similar issues to this and for the same reasons |

Quite, but that's not an emotionally satisfying answer, so it'll not go far |

Yep. Funny how we haven't had a Lancashire variant spread across the globe, yet we have had a Kent variant spread across the globe. |

Health and other inequalities aren't a great foundation, when you're more towards the end of the spectra that have you towards the bottom.
And we didn't take the clear and appropriate steps at the right time, that would have put people as the priority. We failed to restrict travellers from India, when we knew there was a massive problem there and risk to ourselves. Sometimes the common sense answers and solutions are right. |

Same I haven't seen a Lincolnshire variant either, I do think 2 massive factors in all of this are
1. Population density
And
2. The density of the population |

Yes... The greatest scientific minds of the planet have been churning data through the night and worked out that...
The infections are spreading faster amongst :
*the most mobile demographic
*the demographic who have not even been offered one jab yet, let alone 2
*the areas where vaccine uptake has been lowest
*the areas where adherence to social distancing is lowest...
Fuck me who ever could have predicted that would happen.? |

Can you point me to the data that proves that adherence to social distancing rules is any lower in the north west. |

It's in pretty much every story and article about it. Unable to work from home.. More populated housing.. Less able to isolate for financial reasons |

Ah ok, I wrongly assumed you meant people in the North West were deliberately breaking social distancing rules. |

That's not non adherence, that's disadvantage.
Non adherence you'll find in places like where I live, like leafy south Manchester - because it doesn't hurt people like "us", and hugs and dinner parties are nice |

As the op posted. The North West has been pretty much in the worst aftected areas since day 1... But apparently we are completely incapable of doing anything about it. Avoidable problems are the worst kind. It's not like this is the first month of this and its all new to us. We know how it is transmitted, we know we have 3 ways out of it.... Vaccinate, behaviour changes, or do nothing.
Plus for weeks now we've been hearing words about a surge in vaccinating the young.. Or a surge in getting more vaccinated. Just take a look at the daily totals vaccinated. |

So the virus hits poor folk more then. F%$# me its getting more clever by the day. If folk are deprived, then they wont be able to go out and socialise so what has peoples social circumstances to do with anything |
