Just praying there’s not another lockdown.
We’re an island, how hard was it to shut the borders?
But no, let’s allow flights from India and not bother to ensure they quarantine.
Now look where we are. Cases back up. Fatalities back up.... |

"Let's be honest we have never really actually been lockdown. "
Borders? No
It’s a disgrace
I’ve tried to back Boris over this. An impossible situation. But one thing we could control was borders and we failed miserably |

People will keep testing positive
People will keep being admitted to hospitals
People will keep dieing
Variants will constantly be found as the virus keeps evolving
Why the constant need for these posts ?
We all know this isn’t just going to stop overnight. It’s just about now a return to the new normal. It’s the same as the old normal but there’s one more thing in the world you can die from.
Imagine if cancer didn’t exist last year and was new. The papers would be stating all the possible things that ‘might’ cause it. And we would all be avoiding these things.
We will all die eventually. Some young, some middle aged, the majority will live a long life. Just get on with your lives. Enjoy it, make the most of it. Do unto others etc and crack on. There’s a great big world out there and it’s a great ride if you hop on |

So it’s just India you have a problem with?
You would shut all boarders so that businesses that rely on international trade would also suffer? |

Yeah but no matter how big the world is, if you can’t actually get to see any of it. What’s the point ? |

Wow your negative. I’m seeing it. I was in Africa in December/January. I was in North America in March and will be again in July. And I’m sure there will soon be opportunities to go to other places. You are taking that literally though, my point was ENJOY YOUR LIFE. Don’t sit at home fretting about things that you have little control of anyway. The suns shining, go out, socialize, see loved ones. Make memories. |

A virus such as this will always have mutations. The vaccine that we have protects us against the new strain. This is a worldwide pandemic. Locking our island isn’t a solution. We rely heavily on international trade so the government is doing what they can to balance out our safety v economic growth. |

The solution to this problem is to not castrisise India to turn them into a modern day leper colony but to supply supply then with the vaccine and medical supplies that they can’t get. Many more people are dying in India because the can’t get the oxygen that is needed to survive.
Our vaccines are made in India and yet they have no access to them. As I said before this is a worldwide problem and closing our boarders is very short sighted and will not help solve the global pandemic. As a developed nation we should be helping more in the world stage |

I was understanding your point.
But there’s an old adage

i do see your point but cancer isnt contagious , its a difficult line to tread coming out of this where we have to find balance between allowing what would be “normal” non pandemic levels of death from this virus (ie maybe comparable with flu season), or are the creeping numbers meaning its about to run away from us again
we can model it til the cows come home, but unless we keep on top of what the mutations are doing we wont really know and understandably people dont want to look back in a few months (again) and say we were just to slow to react to what we could see in front of us
i think people need a bit of perspective - what is average life expectancy? and we have been restricted less than 2 years at this point - no point running before we can walk for the sake of a few months - slow and steady we will get there more confidently |

I really appreciate the WHO renaming the variants, I hope it catches on so we stop jumping on countries.
So - the Alpha variant was dominant in the UK, now the Delta variant is |

Should have shut borders ages ago and they should still be closed now.. The only people who are really moaning about that happening up until a few weeks ago were business people.. Now of course tourists want to jet off for their holidays in the sun..we would be far better as far as health and economy is concerned if we just stopped all but essential travel and particularly air travel until everyone has had their second vaccination...
Which if course won't happen.. |

Exactly
India hasn’t got its house in order for most of their population but there’s plenty of their own millionaires who don’t see to give a toss about anything other than their own self interest. |

Fast, strong action is better than half-hearted bits and bobs done in the slowest way imaginable, whilst getting £thousands for your Downing Street flat by any means.
We're just fortunate to have the NHS which, though it has been starved, managed to keep us in a stronger place than the incompetent yes men around the Eton thing would have had us in. Despite the antivax money making scam getting the oddballs to buy into not having a covid jab, we've managed to get a great proportion of the population vaccinated. We're lucky as this Delta variant is 100% more infectious and now the dominant strain here - as the Eton things kept borders relaxed.
As summer is here, more outdoor activities will keep the levels lower than if it was winter. |

The population has largely stood up* and is continuing to stand up. The NHS is incredible. I just pray it's enough. I'm not the praying kind.
* Or equivalent because I need a more inclusive expression |
