So not good news today. A small but significant rise in hospitalisations and people on ventilation.
Hospitalisations up 870 to 923
Patients on ventilation up 120 to 136.
This may seem insignificant but it really isn't. We won't see the effect of BH weekend for another 10 days or so, but this data illustrates that covid is on the rise throughout the UK.
I feel we need the media to do there part now and that would be by publishing data on how many people are in hospital that have and have not been vaccinated. How many one dose. How many two doses.
We were on a downward trajectory before all of this. The rise in hospitalisations and ventilation concerns me. |

I agree, we will know more in a couple of weeks. My understanding is that the vast majority of people hospitalised are people who are unvaccinated . I wasn't aware that many people were being ventilated...that is alarming. Does that figure only relate to people with covid ? |

Yes it does. To give some sort of insight, that number has reduced from 1000 in early April and is the first time it's increased since then. |

Dear god, have you actually looked at the data for the last few weeks? The 3 previous days had higher admittance rates into hospital, this isn't a significant rise. It's very easy to look this up, a very quick glance shows you're wrong. |

This is also untrue, there have been several increases since April. At least attempt to post accurate data. |

I check the data every day on the covid dashboard. Its the first time it's been updated since Thursday last week. Since April hospitalisations and people on ventilation have been on a constant downward trajectory. If there has been a rise it hasn't been as significant as this. |

So looking at the data again it appears I'm wrong. It was around the 200 mark in April and it has fluctuated more than I remember. Still not a good thing that both hospitalisations and ventilation cases have risen. |

What on earth are you looking at? I check the daily summary everyday, it is updated daily.
So you admit there may have been other rises, you just choose not to say that at first because why exactly?
Please do not share knowingly false data, it causes panic. This is all easily checked on the daily summary on the .gov website. |

You are deliberately cherry picking statistics to bolster a narrative. Look at the death rates over a 5 year average and compare your facts to those.
"In April 2021, the age-standardised mortality rate (ASMR) of deaths due to COVID-19 significantly decreased for the third consecutive month, to 20.6 deaths per 100,000 people in England and 12.6 deaths per 100,000 people in Wales, the lowest rates since September 2020" https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/bulletins/monthlymortalityanalysisenglandandwales/april2021 |

Where did you get 1000 from then? This kind of thread is the equivalent of the media posting their alarmist bullshit.
Imagine if I hadn't checked, you would have carried on telling people completely false figures.

I think it's called the Mandela effect. I'll admit I should have double checked before posting though. I made a mistake. We are only human. We were at 1000 in February |

There isn't a "Five Year Average" for people with Covid. These statistics are specifically people with Covid requiring Hospital Treatment and People in hospital due to Covid requiring a ventilator (Ventilator Mechanical Beds)

Thankfully, even though there is an upturn in cases, the curve is still fairly flat. Obviously we don't want the number of cases to rise, but in context the numbers are still significantly lower than they were a few months ago. It is evident that the vaccines are contributing to reducing the number of people requiring hospital treatment, and for those who are needing assistance, the treatment is much more effective than it was in the early days of the virus.
It was always expected that there would be "SOME" increase in new cases as restrictions were relaxed, so these figures are not a surprise.

I love when people post data and it’s useless. First off data from bank holidays have now been proved time and time again, to see uptake in infections spikes.
Now the government have a data set of what Spikes will increase due to unlocking. So unless you have that, your post was a waste of time! |

My point is that for all these stats that allegedly allude to covid deaths, the overall figure simply doesn't tally with the 5 year death rate.
We all know that OP is saying that the ventilator bed rise is going to be the precursor to a rise in deaths, I'd just like to see the balanced side of the equation. |

The truth is, if you compare the 5 year average with the death toll through 2020, the rise in deaths is obvious and even though the figures are higher than the published "covid deaths" both set of figures do follow a very similar curve.
Obvious comming into 2021, the figures of the 2020 will actually skew the average and make the comparison less accurate... but realistically the death rate is much-much less than at the peak.
I am in agreement with you that the current (slight) upward trend is not something to panic about, it is still an upwards trend when we would all like to see a downwards one... and ultimately drawing any conclusions from one day's published data is not going to be overly accurate.
