The Chinese should've shut their borders.

Just closing borders isn't enough, but it certainly would have helped restrict the flow around the world. Unfortunately there is no country that is willing to completely close their borders. They all have a list of people who are "too important" to be restricted, and they have to allow people who were outside of the country to return home.

The whole 'too important' thing is redundant when you think of such technology as Skype exists, it's horrible they use that term when on the other hand 'everyone is equal'

But with people coming home, they could of been quarantined effectively keeping hotels open and saving jobs if not making more as you would need more staff in 24/7 so many things should of been done differently

I'd be where I am now

It's been the catalyst for some major change in my life, which I'm actually really grateful for - but it's come at far too high a human cost.

I just hope we learn and do better in future

Unfortunately humanity will not change there way of dealing with thing correctly until the hunger for greed is at play, the big money makers won't let anything get in there way at what ever cost

If it wasn't for Covid, I probably wouldn't have been pushed to leave a job I no longer enjoyed. I'm now in a new job and hope to start uni in September.

Closing borders sooner and properly would certainly have helped. I don't think that it would have stopped it entirely though.

I'm glad it's all working out for you

Fair point on the not stopping completely, however the mortality rate would of been far less

Central

Closing the UK borders would have been a massive restriction on the number of people who came especially from Europe and who seeded multiple hot spots around the country.

That our leaders failed to take it seriously, whilst forever dithering before taking decisions and action, doesn't fill me with much hope that we would not still be one of the worst countries in the world now though.

Short, costly measures are needed to prevent even worse and more expensive catastrophes further down the line.

I'd be similar, would have travelled more and be more content, with more family alive.

I'm sorry to hear you have lost loved ones, the government truly let us down in a way that that can never repay

Closing relevant borders right at the start, isolating affected towns, quarantining infected individuals, if done very strictly for about 1 month, would have eliminated the virus. It would probably have cost a few hundred million pounds in total worldwide.

Of course the resulting complete halt of movement targeted around the specific small number of infected areas, and some restrictions on global travel for a limited period were far too high a price to pay. "How can the uk possibly afford to lose tourism?". Instead we've had 18 months already and an unknown period to come of losing tourism, trade, movement, all across the world, a cost possibly a million times higher than it could have been, 4 million dead people and (just guessing here, no one reports these numbers, possibly because it would truly show the global fuck up by our wonderful leaders) maybe half a billion with lasting health problems.

So where would I be if a few politicians fathers had used condoms? Much happier, together with half a billion that would still be healthy.
