Also the current death rate reflects where we were a few weeks ago. With increasing infection rates and hospitalisation the picture won’t be as good in a few weeks time  |

It'd be nice if it continued but I somehow doubt it'll last, people are getting out more since easing of restrictions.
The Indian and the newest deadlier vietnamese variant are kicking about and we all know how bad the u.k is at stopping travelling.
so I can see it spreading and sadly deaths will go up again... |

I have just checked the London Borough of Bexley on the government website Gov.uk. It is saying there was one death yesterday and the site was updated at 1600 01 Jun.? So where and what is the correct details? |

Has anyone ever suggested that we will be in lockdown forever? The elderly, vulnerable and responsible have been vaccinated or will be within a few more weeks. That will hopefully be enough to have some kind of herd immunity.

The rates of infections have risen in some areas but this is probably also down to relaxing of rules from the total lockdown and not just the Indian variant. This is what they expected so think its still looking good for 21st of June... |

Not necessarily. Scotland's exit from all restrictions delayed in some areas because of the rise in cases.
The good news is the vaccine is keeping the elderly and vulnerable out of hospital.

A rise in cases after lockdown ceased was to be expected. Anyone that didn’t expect to see that isn’t really thinking things through logically.
The virilance of new strains will determine whether this rise is a steady one, or whether it’s going to be exponential.
If it’s the latter and it looks like hospitals will become overwhelmed, then expect regionalised lockdowns where any flairs occur.
I just read this from Australia, ref quarantine breaches :
“... But if the virus somehow escapes quarantine, the consequences can be severe. Melbourne saw this last July when a quarantined traveller infected a hotel guard, who unwittingly took the virus into the community. The resulting outbreak accounts for over 90% of Australia's 29,000 cases and 909 deaths to date....”
But the difference here, of course, is that we now have high vaccination rates, which are doing a good job at controlling the virus.
Unless death rates rose significantly, I think June 14th will

We have a neighbour in her late 50s who has had cancer, works in a school, has numerous grandchildren who have been to her home many times and she refuses to be vaccinated. When I asked her why she said there's no need.
I was truly gobsmacked at how matter of fact she was.

So therefore this week the offices would likely have been closed Sunday and Monday….so will be interesting to see what the Tuesday reporting figures are…. |

It is great news- however it reflects the low number of people infected 5 weeks ago.
Things change, change quickly and with viruses -especially this Delta variant- the change is exponential.
We can only sit down and pat ourselves on the back when we reach herd immunity or at least close to it( 80% of all people) - we’re at under 40% fully vaccinated at the moment.
We need to suppress and crush Covid- we have not given this enemy the respect it deserves. It thrives under the conditions of human hesitancy and stupidity.
Taking the emotional side of out of the equation( and the needless loss of life during successive delayed lockdowns has been horrendous ) - the extra unnecessary cost of Covid will put a burden on us all for years to come..... this is what we and Boris will have to face up to.
We are happy to receive government support now but we are all going to have to start paying for this debacle in the long run.

At the end of the day with the June date fast approaching and by then all the high risk folk woukd of then had the vaccine, with more younger and younger been done by the day.
So with all that we have to crack on now, the financial hit to some must be absolutely horrid.
Yes there will still be a few deaths along the way and some will get ill, but yer know what,, that's life.
It's been a long hard road but this road has to come to an end and soon. What has had to be done has been done, covid is here to stay forever,its now over to us to take personal responsible risks |

That's been the same for the whole pandemic, we are all aware there is usually a 2 day 'low' then a ride for the following 2 days, it evens out.
Still, the fact that the deaths have become low enough to have 0 reported one day is a reason to be happy. |

Thats my point...its not a positive bit of news....its just a statistical anomaly brought about by a long weekend. Deaths staying low despite easing of restrictions is yet another statistical anomaly as it takes 4 to 8 weeks from contracting the virus to possible death. We haven't begun to feel the effect yet. Its not bringing the mood down....its called realism, facing the music, understanding of the basic mechanics of the situation, rather than hiding behind statistics. |

Erm yes. It's a fact. First recorded zero covid deaths since March last year. My point was (for those that didn't get it) that we've had bank holidays during that time and none recorded zero covid deaths. Not sure why that deserved the "wow" or why you thought it wasn't a serious comment. |

I am probably guessing you have never watched a Scottish daily coronavirus briefing (probably not as not your part of the country) but whoever does the briefing after the weekend always points out the figures for the previous day may be lower due to some reporting offices being closed… so not to take that one day figure in isolation! |

So What was the point… of those offices that reported, there were zero death!…. Cool! Get that… but they are reporting on incomplete figures, or you could say the sample size in reporting offices is not as big… hence the warning about taking one days figures in idol because each administration doesn’t tell you what percentage of offices are closed on a Sunday or a Bank Holiday … so those offices that were not will have a lag in reporting because they may have several days deaths combined together

Get that… but they are reporting on incomplete figures, or you could say the sample size in reporting offices is not as big… hence the warning about taking one days figures in idol because each administration doesn’t tell you what percentage of offices are closed on a Sunday or a Bank Holiday … so those offices that were not will have a lag in reporting because they may have several days deaths combined together

I am probably guessing you have never watched a Scottish daily coronavirus briefing (probably not as not your part of the country) but whoever does the briefing after the weekend always points out the figures for the previous day may be lower due to some reporting offices being closed… so not to take that one day figure in isolation!

Na because we have 3000 cases of the Indian variant and since that has been announced could be one day deaths from it and still nothing to celebrate given number of deaths globally and just because UK might not have a death somewhere it might be totally different which still effects normality |

We know this happens, nobody is saying it doesn't but the fact that the deaths have become low enough for 0 deaths at all is great, it hasn't happened on the other Bank Holidays so obviously they general gist is that overall the deaths are lower now.
I think, regardless of whether there was a bank holiday, a delay in reporting, whatever, having 0 deaths recorded is great news. |

I have a pretty good understanding of stats for a layperson.
The fact that the trend can go low enough that zero is possible is encouraging.
Even if it is a reporting artefact.

So apparently in Scotland they have seen a rise in children admitted to hospital. Gotta say the timing is interesting as there has been talk of extending the vaccine to children and this has less support than it does for adults being vaccinated. Probably just a coincidence but I am getting increasingly cynical!
Low take up in asian communities and look, the Indian variant taking off (in those communities). Lower take up in younger groups (once offered) oh look the Indian variant is affecting them more. Now children.

To be fair the FDA gave Pfizer the same emergency use authorisation for 12 to 17’s to get the vaccine in the US about 3 weeks ago… so it was a matter of time
