Don't travel Hot spots

The government has updated a website to state not to travel to the 8 current hotspots, including Blackburn, affected by the Indian variant. You should not travel into or out of these places.

It's so important that no announcements were made and the councils were not informed. It's almost like a mini-Tier system again. I was in Lancashire over the weekend but didn't know, as I'd not browsed all of the Internet

Why the government do not make this clearer I do not know.

They have handled this badly as usual,I agree with what they say but enforce it.

To obey this is common sense and I would do this without a rule but most do not use common sense so enforce it

PH officials had not been informed. A minister on GMB said the locals should know as they had increased testing

If they publicise it, they will give people a chance to avoid making plans that could harm others.

It's so weird to just add some words, with major implications for thousands of people, without any announcements. As Rugby posted from the link, the councils should have been informed. A short news item in the areas, could have informed lots of people quite easily.

I am guessing they didn't want it publicised for whatever reasons god only knows, but it is proving time and time again that they don't care what happens to people. They have a whole different set of rules than the rest of us including that they shouldn't be meeting inside

As far as i can tell its only guidance, they haven't imposed any restrictions, it's just advice.

The issue is that it isn't told to the people who live in those areas, whether that be law or guidance.

Yeah, it does seem silly

I've heard that they have now changed the wording on the website. The councils etc found out after seeing comments on twitter etc. Somewhat shambolic, again.

So no PH officials or council officials had bothered to look at the website which is the prime site for full information? .....really??

I think the phrase “SHOULD” is the issue... it’s essentially advice.

As with previous local lockdowns the problem is people need to go to work, schools etc these borders will be crossed unless a military cordon is erected... to me it feels like a statement to divert blame away from policy should the situation escalate.

The website was updated at 17.24 on Friday. Do you expect officials to spend their evening and weekend checking just in case there are any unannounced changes ?

You seriously think that PHE and councils shouldn't be informed when a stealth lockdown was announced?

It's because they don't want to be seen to be bringing back lockdowns. It's all about their approval ratings.

If cases keep rising then they can blame people for not following the "advice". If they fall then they can claim a victory for dealing with it without enforcing unpopular local lockdowns.

Mmm.

See, no lockdowns.

Bad people for not following "common sense", which no one defined!

Be free responsibly, whatever that means

Not for the first time something has been grossly mishandled by the government, clear communication is essential to what we've seen in this pandemic..

To not directly inform the local officials was negligent..

Well you dont think the people actually managing the crises should actually tell people what's going on do you?

That's crackers.

Don't travel to the hot spots. There's a bank holiday on the horizon and the hotspots will travel to you.

There is so much need of a third, fourth, infinity lockdown for many members of society.

It was hardly a stealth lockdown.
