Not sure what conclusions can be drawn, that seems to be about the same infection rate (1 in 4000) as the national average rate of 2000 a day if you extrapolated it over say 10 days.
So I dunno, maybe all of the 15 got infected after the concert? No idea. |

Just wonder if it's within the error rates of either false negative tests before attending... Or false positive tests post attending... Or they picked it up in the intervening few days on the bus / train / kebab shop? .
Ie if you tested 60k people I wonder how many positives you'd get...
According to the gov covid site the average rate across the country is 22 per 100k and 15 in 60k is equivalent to approx 22 per 100k... So the same as today's background level of infections. |

I think so.

It's good news and, like other countries such as The Netherlands, these tests are valuable to our understanding. There are still some who are against restrictions such as testing and providing proof, before permission to engage with parts of society again. |

yes so i feel like its kind of a manipulated experiment to be honest ... you are never going to expect a virus to run rampant through a group of people tested negative immediately previous to the event ... its more like an experiment do the tests work which i thought we already knew?

i get that was the point , but sampling with an entirely negative population feels like a manipulation of the expected result - the outcome was never going to be wildspread cases from negative folk - its not an indicator of what will happen in society , only what will happen at an event with only negative people and a book on microbiology would tell you that anyway, cant pass on something you dont have
if they want to make negative test for entry a requirement of reopening events i dont think they need to experiment it - its clear what the result will be just go ahead and do it |

i get that was the point , but sampling with an entirely negative population feels like a manipulation of the expected result - the outcome was never going to be wildspread cases from negative folk - its not an indicator of what will happen in society , only what will happen at an event with only negative people and a book on microbiology would tell you that anyway, cant pass on something you dont have

see that sounds alot like testing the reliability of the tests which we already knew
besides aren’t LFT tests purposefully made over sensitive so that you can get false positives but almost never false negative
dont get me wrong i think we just do the tests and get the venues open, i have no problem testing for entry and its great news for the venues and the people that go if they can get some normality
but i just think calling it an “experiment” when basic science already determined the outcome is just the govt try to spin it that they are pioneering and having fantastic results |

Different types of experiment. Does this work? Does it work in the real world? Does it work under these conditions?
The percentage accuracy of LFTs is a bit up in the air, too - whether it's a gold standard accuracy or it does catch most infectiousness. Being infectious is the point people are looking for here.
I think it's legitimacy to say "look, providing tests are mandatory, the risk of contracting Covid under pre Covid circumstances is (tiny percentage)" to get the businesses going again. |

Science could have easily said to what level it was safe, but many people seem to be ignoring or sceptical of science at the moment.
I think to those, a practical demonstration like this is much easier to trust and harder to ignore.
So yes, probably want 'needed' but probably is a useful thing to do. |

If nothing else, the insurance companies will be happy. I think we underestimate the role of them. If they think it's too high risk, they'll jack up the rates |
