And how easy was it !? For years people suffered with coughs, colds with no cure....and now it’s all gone.... and all that was needed was to wash your hands a bit more and keep your distance from sickly people in crowds at B&M Bargains and Primarni |

"Just covid and tears no more cold and flu??"
It’s almost as if wearing face masks, washing hands regularly and maintaining your distance from people who could possibly be infected could prevent transmission of infectious diseases.... |

"I've got a cold at the moment.
Caught it off my kids, who got it from school "
Our Plague Bearer has brought a lovely barking cough home. It's not Covid (we checked). So far, neither of us has caught it, but there's time. I caught an absolute stinker when doing in-person vaccine and first aid training in February (masks worn, social distance maintained other than brief moments of recovery position etc). Took two weeks to go away, that did |

Op didn't notice the restrictions keeping people home more, away from others, mask protection, other hygiene measures, reduced work assembly etc? Done all the time, they will of course make major reductions in the levels of infection that spread via social transmission. |

This seems to be beyond many peoples understanding.. who would have thought infection control would help prevent against catching other things too. |

Who would have thought that people would be asking the same question even though people like yourself have answered it a million times.. |

Are you really this uneducated that you can’t work it out?"
I mean who would have though measures intended to reduce the spread of a respiratory illness would reduce the spread of other respiratory illnesses . |

Only stopped the others then not covid? Because covid still ran riot.. hows it possible that it stopped flu but not covid.. you have been fooled. |

If you think about it, it is "VERY" obvious that the restrictions that have been used to control Covid (a respiratory virus) would also control Flu (another respiratory virus)...
There have still been around 190,000 deaths due to seasonal flu in 2021.

No my foolish friend. Flu and cold haven’t been stopped, they are still doing the rounds. Flu and Covid are just at a much reduced prevalence to normal and whilst Covid may have run riot it too has been pegged to a jog not a sprint. |

I was under the weather for 2 days over the last weekend. It felt like I was sickening for a standard cold, and the next day like I was recovering from one.
Thank God I missed all the worse bit in the middle!
Still no idea how I picked it up though, what with all the extra measures in place at the moment.
Social distancing. Handwashing. And mask wearing!
Guess these viruses are sneaky little things. |

If you’d have had a Covid test you’d be positive . |

It's due to the differing infectiousness of the SARS-CoV-2 virus vs other viruses. SARS-CoV-2, especially the more recent variants, is a LOT more infectious than any influenza virus, so it's not unexpected that measures we've taken are more effective at suppressing the less infectious influenza viruses vs SARS-CoV-2.
