Matt Hancock has said that the vast majority of people in hospital with covid there refused to have the jab when offered it. Surely this should be the headline the newspapers should be using.

If this can be proven it might sway a few of the people on the fence about it to get their vaccine.

It would also be interesting to see the full figures published for that one area for vaccines , refusals, positive tests and illness.

Why would a group of people declining a vaccine sway my opinion? People are declining daily.

Why would you want to sway someone’s opinion?

Surely letting people decide for themselves is the best way.

According to the official figures (as stated by Matt Handjob, there are 18 people hospitalised with Covid in Bolton. Six have had at least on jab, the other 12 have not but are all eligible.

Worries me, wether for or against anything in life. That people make personal decisions based on what others do lol.

Do your own research (actual not mainstream media) and make your own decision. Not what a group of people in Bolton hospital have decided lol.

There’s a very sensible view regarding educating people, it would be very wrong to celebrate anyone catching covid and becoming critical. To view the effect on the individual and indeed their families is to be blunt quite horrific.

People have a choice you’re quite right, but I’d celebrate anyone getting vaccinated both for their own and the larger communities well-being.

I’ve seen regret on a number of occasions in the past 16 months, it’s hugely upsetting to see people carrying enormous self guilt over relatives dying on the wards. I haven’t experienced it yet but I would not rejoice sitting with a patient waiting to be induced for ventilation when they’ve avoided the vaccine based on some wild claim on social media.

Oh I don’t disagree at all. It’s been horrendous and still is for everyone going through it.

I’d just have a lot more respect for those declining if they actually researched and came to that decision themselves rather than wanting to make it front page that 12 people have declined to try and sway opinions.

Sorry I completely disagree with that. If you don’t agree with what you perceive as a selfish choice why embrace such a repulsive response.

A person dying of covid is a horrible experience, not just for the patient but also anyone who cares about them. One thing that this year has shown is you need compassion, calling for people’s suffering isn’t an answer... it also dilutes your beliefs when others read them.

For what it’s worth I believe everyone should get vaccinated for their own health but also others... wishing harm on to them whether physical or financial however just makes our standpoint equally as selfish.

I just wish people would stop and think a bit more. Why any person not embedded within healthcare or it’s associated industries feels their hastily assembled view is superior to people who’ve dedicated their life’s work to combatting such viruses I don’t know.

There has to be trust and common sense.

For the most severe case of covid their treatment costs a fortune... a patient on ventilation for months, well you’re looking at over a £mil. Closing that unaffordable choice is in those circumstances sentencing them to death.

We are very fortunate to have free healthcare and an NHS that has always cared about everyone.

On occasions seeing the relief of mums, dads, children etc when a loved one has made a ridiculously bad choice is enough when you can intervene and stop their nightmare.

We should never chose to give care selectively.

Exactly this... what about people who are so mentally Ill they’ve attempted to take their own life? A teenage son or daughter whose taken a bad pill on a night out and fallen unconscious...

You can never judge, for all concerned you just need to rise above it and treat them to the best of your abilities.

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

I dont think the term used was refused, i believe it was stated that "they had no had a vaccination".. no reason was given why they had not.

And that wasn't the point of the exercise, it was data, which is fairly black and white, being conveyed about the potential and additional risk the Indian variant poses to the current unlocking plans.

Its an excercise in setting expectations.. give bad news once and if you know before the fact, warn of the risk.

Most of us are now expecting bad news imminently about the next phase of unlocking changing, so if it does, it wont be a surprise to anyone..

It is indeed selfish... but why retaliate and more importantly cause huge pain and distress to those who are blameless yet happen to love them.

We can agree to differ in views, we are agreed that people should be responsible for themselves but as someone who works in a team trying to save people’s lives I never want to have any mandate where we only choose to help some of those suffering.

Watching someone’s body slowly shut down is not proportional to them having a ridiculous view or attitude.

There are plenty of people looking for reasons to have it or not have it. Some said they would wait a few months and see if any more data became available. This kind of data backs up the benefits of having a vaccine . I don’t want to sway anyone. I make my own choices to protect myself and my family.

The NY Times also states that Patient Zero in the cluster was an 88yo airport worker. It's unsurprising that two vaccines haven't offered total protection to someone so old. No matter if they're fit enough to be working at 88, their immune system is still 88. The research data shows much weaker immune responses in the over 75s.

Questions to ask:

1) How old are the other 18 fully vaccinated airport workers?

2) Have any of them required hospital treatment, or have their two vaccines reduced the severity of disease, which is what they were designed to do?

3) Which variant of the virus has infected these individuals?

Why worry..

We get invaded by and carry viruses all the time without ill effect to us because we have immunity.

The virus doesn't have sufficient time to become viable enough for us to spread to others easily..

This isn't new news, this is how virus and our immune response works.

Although there is danger with covid 90 % of people who get covid survive the deaths internet the country have not been hugely different from 2018 when there was a high number of deaths in the country

Old people have the flu jab I find that I very really get ill at all so do I need to be vaccinated probably not

So is covid dangerous not really its made out to be to protect the NHS look at the difference in people going to the doctors I hardly ever go but when I do go to the doctors I really need to and most people there have common colds or flu and hopefully covid has helped people who aren’t really I’ll keep away or be diagnosed over the phone or webcam which is good

Its also been very difficult to actually get the vaccine due to recent shortages. Mine went over the 12 weeks in between because of the shortages. When i enquired about when i was going to get my next invite i was told that "govt guidelines have said its now ok to go up to 14 weeks inbetween jabs", funnily enough, just as we were seeing a drop in supply!

My wife has chronic asthma and is 49. She finally got the txt from the dr with the link to make an appointment. Went on the website and nothing available. Three attempts and gave up. So traipsed over to the ESSA academy and queued for 2.5 hrs with my son to get their first jabs. That location was used to make it easier for the asian community (its slap bang in the middle of their highest concentration) and the vast majority of the people queueing were white and of all ages. Im not laying the blame of the spread of covid at the feet of the asian community but they really are not doing themselves any favours. My indian friends have all been jabbed as have their families, but the only muslim friend i know who has had it, hasnt been a muslim for about 40 years!! The message is getting through though and the take up is starting to improve a lot.

I volunteer as a vaccinator and I've vaccinated a very significant number of Muslim people of different ages, first and second vaccines. The Imam at the mosque next to the venue has been promoting and encouraging it and uptake is high. I vaccinated Muslim people during Ramadan too.

My 34yo husband had a text to book his vaccine last week at our GP (in Bolton) and Waters Meeting has been doing vaccines since December. There's no reason a 49yo person couldn't have just booked on the NHS website as soon as that age group became eligible, which was back in April. There has been huge publicity at every stage that the age groups have opened up and clear info about booking on the NHS website has been included. Second doses can be booked on the NHS site, as well as first and you can edit/change the date too.

Prior to April, only people in the 9 priority categories were being vaccinated. Asthma was only included in the "high risk health conditions" category if the patient had required a significant number of courses of steroids or had several hospital admissions in the past year.

The uptake is getting better. I did say that. But it was very low to start with.

As for my wife, if she tried to book of her own accord, she was being directed to go to blackburn and that just wasnt possible for her. My brother who also lives in bolton had to go to the Etihad stadium.

The vaccine bus

Tonge Moor Health Centre – including people from Turton PCN

Lever Chambers Health Centre – including people from Rumworth PCN, Central PCN and Farnworth and Kearsley PCN

Breightmet Health Centre – including people from Breightmet and Little Lever PCN

Peter House Surgery – including people from Westhoughton PCN

Waters Meeting Health Centre – including people from Halliwell PCN, plus those registered at Bolton Community Practice in Horwich

Avondale Health Centre – including people from Chorley Roads PCN

Horwich RMI – including people from Kildonan House Surgery and Pike View Medical Centre. Now a National Booking Site.

Hootons Pharmacy at the Bolton Wanderers, Horwich – available via the National Booking Service

If someone isn't willing to travel to one of the mass vaccination centres (of which BWFC is one), then they do need to wait for their GP, but GPs in Bolton that we're aware of have kept pace with the national priority groups/age ranges or have been ahead. My second dose was brought a week earlier, at my GP (in Bolton).

"My ex-muslim friend is fuming at his "community" (he hates that term). You might be seeing a large uptake (in comparison to what it was) but your not seeing how many are NOT taking it up.

Plenty of white folk are just as bad though. "

Your last sentence - correct. So why the need to make distinctions between races? Some people of all ethnicities etc have so far declined the vaccine, for all sorts of reasons.

Because its what my friend from that same community is telling me. And hes in a better position than me or you, to tell me what things are like in that community. From the actual horses mouth, not an imam who knows what to say to reporters and government bodies.

The Imam next door speaks to us at the clinic. We have people coming in, who cite his advice and guidance. The uptake of the vaccine across Bolton is consistent with the national average. There are certain wards with lower than average uptake and that correlates reasonably well with deprivation indices.

""booking on the NHS website has been included. Second doses can be booked on the NHS site, as well as first and you can edit/change the date too."

So why was she told on the website that nothing was available and to try again. She did . 3 times to no avail.

Not a case of unwilling, but unable. Only chance is at weekend when i can take them, and she was never given that option of a weekend jab. I cant book time off work to take them as i am one of the few in my pkace of work that is actually working on site. I cant just take time off. It has to be planned very carefully. You yourself might not have had a problem trying to get vaccinated but other people have!

Is that a dig at my family or a grammatical error?
