So I got to thinking last night about the virus and other things.

I had my tonsils out as a kid. uptill then i had all sorts of regular infections but since I have had very little.

I know that part of the testing involves swabbing the tonsils / tonsil area.

Who else has had their tonsils out and have you had covid?

Has having them out helped protect me against the virus?

The tonsils / tonsil area simply give the tester a place to aim for with the swab. It just needs to get right to the back of your mouth into the throat as that's where viruses like to hang out.

Yes as said above its just a target, a swabs needs to be taken from the back of the throat. The tonsils are part of the lymphatic system/immune system, working abit like lymph nodes which filter our body fluids, althought they do regularly get infections (tonsilitis) as a child, actually when removed it can make you slightly more susceptible to some upper airway/respiratory infection.
