The champions League final at present is in Istanbul Turkey but it is on red travel ban list. They are talking about having it in England as both teams are English I can't understand the problem at all but still not sorted, you couldn't make it up how the government works.

You think it's our government's decision ?

Surely the problem is that this is actually a private event not a government one so the government can’t just mandate things. Secondly there is probably a lot of money and prestige for the Turks riding on it being in Turkey so they don’t want to lose face easily. Thirdly you have to add the fact that if it is held in the UK then lots of people who are not vaccinated or who are potentially symptomatic will want to come over as well which will annoy a lot of people here who have spent ages on lockdown to avoid a situation like that. Whatever way you look at it, it is not an easy situation. Even less so when you are not the primary decision maker.

It's nothing to do with FIFA either

There is little to no chance that they will change the venue now the cost would be prohibitive. Pity for the fans though

My understanding is Turkey want to host it as they should have hosted last year final but Portugal hosted it instead.Personally I think as we are doing so well with our Covid19 cases it should be hosted at Wembley or even Villa Park as that is probably more central to both teams

Red list means quarantine inbound, so not good for tourists or fans coming home.

It's for the Turkish to relinquish it, if they wish to. And for pay for viewing, if relevant, to make it free to view. It could have no fans attending, according to Turkish laws. With high risk levels, perhaps it could be delayed?

It’s up to UEFA not the British Government where the Champions League final is played.

Turkey, the hosts for the CLF are on the red list so fans of Chelsea and Manchester City should not travel there.

It makes sense to rearrange the fixture to the UK and the Government have said they will do all they can to facilitate that but ultimately UEFA make the decision.

Even in non Covid times its always seemed totally stupid to me to send teams hundreds of miles away to play a match.

They should not allocate the final until the teams who are going to contest it have been resolved.

It should be changed, with fans to be back in the ground soon it would be a better spectacle for UEFA and the television.

UEFA did not buckle on the Baku final two years ago so it is doubtful they would ever have done anything about this one.

Morally one could argue that due to a pandemic they had the best excuse to move the final elsewhere.

Of course the conspiracy theorists will say that UEFA will be happy to not move it as they are not pro English football. Also it is punishment for the proposed Super League breakaway.

I say this as a Chelsea season ticket holder who would have been eligible for a ticket.

I could not justify the quarantine period and cost coming back to the UK. Also I could not justify having spent so long at home during lockdowns to blow it for a game of football.

Maybe that is what UEFA should look at.

"The government has been talking with FIFA so yes."

This has literally nothing to do with the government. The only way our government would have any say over this would be if they were preventing it from taking place in Britain.

You talk about common sense and it sounds to me that's exactly what the government have shown by trying to get the final relocated over here.

Given the poor efforts of Turkey in relation to Covid it was always going to be the case that Turkey was never going to be a sensible choice....but when have UEFA ever been sensible?

Literally just been announced that UEFA are having a think about it in light of Turkey being in the UK red zone.

You can blame a government for many things but this is in the lap of UEFA and as we know how corrupt they can be, a plain envelope stashed with cash may just allow them to recommend a switch.

Wembley can't host it is probably the hold up in a decision. Unless the whole date is moved. Common sense should prevail tho.

Our government could prevent the teams from travelling to Turkey

If the country hosting it is on the red list then common sense dictates the team's plus journalists etc shouldn't go there..

Or am I being too sensible..?

Give Man City and Chelsea's role in the super league breakaway attempt, the sensible thing to do would be to just cancel the final.
