Oh, well, if it's in the Mirror the it must be true, eh?
Every bit as bad as The Sun but aimed at other side of the political spectrum
Although the scientist's view might have some validity, if it's true |

I despair.
I really wish people didn’t tell random strangers to
A- go out and do what they want
B- don’t go out and do what I tell you.
Let’s just all stick to the roadmap. For gods sake it’s not long to go now. |

It was actual Prof Tim Spector saying this not Prof Van Tam, it's just the article is badly written (suprise!) and starts by mentioning Van Tam.
I also don't think he's saying people actually 'should' be going out and doing that (as I'm encouraging them to), but that the levels are low enough that they 'should' be able to (as in he thinks it's probably safe enough to).
That's two slightly different things.
It still needs confirming and being made legal, which I'm sure is coming soon. |

I hate the way everything gets twisted, I think they are basically trying to say it's possibly safe enough to do this now but it still isn't allowed.
We are literally 2 months away from getting our lives back to some semblance of normal, don't fuck it up now by bending the rules to suit yourself.
We have all made sacrifices and suffered, don't let it all have been a waste of time after losing over a year of normal life. |

The mirror.. Lol. Mind you these days hard to find a real newspaper that has an editor who wants to tell the truth :/ |

Actually prof van tam actually was asked a question in yesterday presser and he said please don’t rush to get back to normality yet and stick to the present timeline as not to lose all the gains made… but it was looking promising that dates won’t need to be changed |

Yep. Pretty certain that's what Prof Tim Spector was trying to say too, but his wording wasn't great and the Mirror's reporting was awful and made it sound like he was encouraging going out when he wasn't. |

The media twisting and confusing things? I don't believe it!
The papers should be held jointly accountable for a lot of the mixed and confusing messages this last year. |

I think there are basically two groups.. those who have been shut inside and still had money coming in and those who've had no choice but to go out and work and face this thing
I've bent rules to go and see my mum and took kids and hugged her, pretty sure she would've died without the human contact

I havent seen my mum for 10 months...no hugs no nothing.
Pisses me off when people like you break the rules .
She may have died because of human contact from you and your kids !
I couldnt live with that on my conscience so will wait until visiting inside is allowed. |

What and then if she dies your conscience is clear because the government said it was OK to meet?

We went through this with our mam if anyone had told me not to go see her I know what they would have been told.
She died of dementia not covid.
But it was horrific to see her go through it and it doesn't bare thinking of none us being there with her at the end.

I haven't seen mine for about 2 years now due to her having COPD, and us having nasty coughs before Covid hit.
However, I have no real issues with others bending / breaking the rules in some cases like this, but do have issues with people breaking them just for fun.
We shouldn't be so eager to throw blame because someone has broken the rules as the rules can't factor in every situation. We need to have a little flexibility and compassion in the way we think.
It's like a mate of mine said, most of us have probably broken the speed limit by a couple of mph or know someone who has and we don't think twice about it, however most will probably also condem someone who goes double the speed limit. At what point does it go from ok to wrong? There is no clear answer and everyone's answer will be different.
So in these cases, let's not get too judgemental when someone has weighed up all the facts and made a difficult choice that may be different to ours. |

also I think what I said about the country is split in two is important
d- those who have been in lockdown because of being financially secure or shielding are now in a mindset where its harder to come out of and people who have been working every day in the outside world may find going out and having fun easier... we all need it tho

Think I'm up to about 30 or so pub visits since 12 April....14 different pubs locally and in/around Cotswolds.
Get out, have fun. Support the local economy....1 vaccine so far for me.... |

Didn't we have this last summer? Then the eat out to help out, all of which were thought to have a direct impact on the increase of cases come the autumn.
So forgive me if a little sceptical about being told what to do again this year. |

"Dementia wasnt mentioned...changes my thoughts completely "
My Dad with dementia has been in our bubble but sometimes it's my brother who's had to deal with things. Dad needs someone with him for all medical appointments, for example, because he can't remember things like yes, he's had a knee replacement or yes, he has glaucoma etc. He can't retain any new information at all and is struggling to remember with any accuracy events within the last 20 years and growing rapidly. He chats about his Grandfather, who died in 1947 when he was 8.
There's no way my Dad would be here now if my brother and I had just left him on his own (because he does live alone). I'm all for following the rules but managing family members who are ill, elderly or disabled requires a degree of latitude for the individual situation. |
