I decided to treat myself to a birthday Chinese today and, at the risk of sounding like a party pooper, I did feel a bit miffed that there were two people in the Ubereats delivery car and neither of them were wearing a mask.
The restaurant gave me the wrong order so sent one of their own drivers out and he wasn't wearing a mask either...
It's not the first time either. I did a U-turn out of my local subway the other week because the sandwich artist was wearing his mask below his nose (anyone familiar with subway will know all the ingredients are exposed) and last week I went to pick up my lunch from the local pub. The guy who came and handed me the food was wearing a mask but the kitchen manager wasn't.
I appreciate that not everyone is able to wear a mask due to illnesses etc but, at a time when the hospitality industry needs people's support more than ever, how much can we really trust the people who handle our food? I know this probably wouldn't bother a lot of people but I personally find it a bit concerning - especially as a few of the companies mentioned above have promised that all their employees are taking full protective measures. |

"Cook your own and save yourself the worry "
I do, but from time to time I like to treat myself, as well as support local restaurants and delivery drivers. |

If I was that worried about catching covid from a takeaway or takeaway delivery driver then I wouldn’t be ordering one.
Cook your own food if you’re that concerned.. |

"If you start thinking about it you might as well stay at home, do you think the person delivering groceries at the peak of infections was wearing a mask in the cab of the van!"
Plus those in factories preparing and packaging food that's sold in supermarkets
Noone knows what, if any, safety precautions they have taken whilst handling your food
The takeaway delivery guy not wearing a mask is probably the least of your worries |

I agree this is the best way to go, the people that responded with “cook your own” or “if I was that worried” why bother responding?!!
No , the op shouldn’t have to cook her own because other people aren’t doing the right thing and I think her worry is valid |

It would bother me OP.
I've noticed a definite reduction in mask wearing in general unfortunately. My Tesco delivery driver wasn't wearing one this week, he also didn't really follow social distancing rules. 3 different couriers delivered parcels today & only one was wearing a mask.
Also overheard a woman telling her friend that she's not wearing a mask at the school gates any more because she doesn't want a tan line |

Tbh I think the people responding that are gravely overestimating my cooking skills the reason I order these things is because I don't know HOW to make greasy, MSG-filled Singapore noodles (don't judge, it's my birthday ) or those lush middle-eastern style Halloumi and pepper skewers that my local pub does... |

Hasn't advice said that this isn't really a necessary precaution? |

I was responding to the previous poster's comment about groceries possibly being infected by non-mask wearing employees.
Either way, whether necessary or not it's a personal choice that makes me feel more comfortable. |

Never used ubereats... But they are a big corporate... So maybe have a complaints or feedback process... At very least... Appropriate rating feedback on their website.. Kudos to you |

I did send an email to subway and got a response from the area manager. I'm hesitant to complain to uber as the gig economy has been so hard-hit and I would hate for anyone to lose their income - uber is not really known to care much about their employees. |

Someone not wearing a mask delivering food doesn’t bother me, as for the two seconds they are at both our arms stretched length ir collecting off my doorstep after they’ve stepped back I am masked. |

It's a difficult one. I was shouting at the t.v. the other day because a restaurant manager was wearing a mask that didn't cover his nose. We haven't ordered a takeaway for about two years but we do have most of our shopping delivered. The delivery people have all worn masks correctly but they don't all distance correctly. We wipe all our groceries and deliveries, it makes us feel safer.
I think I'd probably accept that the risk is minimal and try and enjoy my food without worrying too much while secretly worrying a bit |

happy birthday OP!
i get where you are coming from but the purpose of masks is to protect people not products if that makes sense so i can totally understand why many of these people didn’t feel the need to wear a mask (except probably the subway one where they interact with customers)
the risk of these people touching your package is much higher than them possibly breathing near it and both are pretty low
i would try not to worry about it because otherwise we could drive ourselves mad with the things that go on in food prep places and it just spoils the treats for us
hope you enjoyed your dinner |

Should they wear masks? Government advice is no as covid doesn’t transmit via food or food packaging.
If I thought it could I’d not eat out it have take away as it could be in the air and land on the food or package in transit. |
