"I'm not predicting condom / lube shortages.
We're not even sure about dates yet. Scotland looks set to talk of the stages, not dates but it's unlikely they'll match England's"
No sun cream will run out first.
Followed by cool boxes for family days out. |

With somewhere between 1.5 to 2 million first injections given each week and the decline in infection remaining linear for the last few weeks, there is no reason why, like in China, normal life can quickly return to something like normal.
At the start of the pandemic, the uk was caught short, totally unaware of the devastation this virus would bring.
The uk was not alone..
Most of the rest of the world with large and transient populations suffered likewise..
Limited testing infrastructure; hospitals not equipped to deal with vast numbers of respiratory cases or the huge amounts of infection control necessary; no drugs capable of reducing the symptoms of the virus; transmission routes a mystery; no system of tracking outbreaks; a vaccine seemingly years away......
And here we are a year later with one of the best vaccine rollouts in the world, testing capacity more than sufficient to cope with any outbreaks, rapid testing offering high accuracy, a track and trace system that works (except when overwhelmed by tens pf thousands of daily positive results), drugs that alleviate the effects of covid and hospitals and medical staff able to deal with the virus...
I think we are in a good place to ease restrictions and manage outbreaks as they happen.
But its up to all of us to ensure it works and maintain a level of what we have been doing to ensure that outbreaks are kept under control.
