I've noticed a lot of you have had the vaccine and a lot of young people but my parents are almost 70 and at risk and still waiting to hear about getting it.

How have you managed to get it so soon.

It's not just NHS staff who can get it in the 'Dr and Nurse' sense.

Carers and the multitude of vital support workers too.

Google NHS book a vaccination. It will take you through a series of questions then give you a choice of locations.

Very strange. They should have had a text or email. Are their contact details up to date with the doctor's etc?

As mentioned, go online and if eligible you can book that way.

I received a text message on Monday, rang Tuesday and was jabbed that afternoon.

If your parents are over 70 and haven't had it yet then you should contact 119 or book online asap.

If your a carer you can get it. Health and social care workers have all been asked as far as I know... I got mine due to volunteering at the vaccine centre and them having some left over... plus it makes sense when I'm interacting albeit safely with thousands of new people a day xx

There was an announcement last week. Anyone in England over 70 who hasn't had a vaccination yet should contact their GP.

I had mine yesterday as I have a long term underlying condition. I came after 65+ but before 60+.

i think it was to begin with but then they said we think everyone in that age category should now have been reached so if you haven’t been contacted yet please come forward - i think you can probably just call your gp

not necessarily, people on here who are carers have said they called their gp to get on that list and just had to say who they were caring for - that could be easily exploited by people that wanted to

It is a GP led delivery as they have access to records so even if the surgery is not doing the jabs they contact you with reference to book online. Some people who are in the "next" category may be fortunate enough to be offered a short notice jab so as not to let un-used vaccines go out of date..

You can't fiddle it..

How can people fiddle their age or health condition?

People have to have an invitation and or put in their nhs number before they can book.

If you are an NHS or social care worker you have to provide proof, If you go to one of the mass vaccination centres you have to provide proof of age or health condition so I don't understand why you think people are fiddling the system.

All areas have moved on to be over 65's and clinically vulnerable people aged 16 to 65.

It was announced 2 weeks ago that Anybody who has not received an invitation who is over 70 is now automatically entitled to book.

You can either do this by going on the NHS website and filling in the form or calling 119.

there have been posters on here who are genuine unpaid carers who have said all they did was call up the gp and say who they were caring for - that could easily be fiddled

there was also a thread from a guy who does maintenance (might have been lifts) and it sometimes takes him into care homes asking how he could jump the queue because he was worries about taking the virus into these places - in the end he called the gp and got put in a reserve group and got his jab - its not against the rules but it definitely was a way around them to speed his jab up

just now when we are all still in lockdown i don’t see a problem with either - the more people we get jabbed quicker the better, as long as vulnerable aren’t missing out then no harm no foul

however as things start to open up if access to activity becomes dependent on vaccination like i read will be happening in israel, then that worries me that people might start to manipulate the system for less honourable reasons

Most of the people that have put on threads that they are unpaid carers that I have seen have been very close to or over 60 anyway so they are only "jumping the queue" by a matter of a couple of weeks.

Absolutely no problem with people being put on the reserve list because I would rather it went in to someone's arm them went into the bin.

If it got to a point where people were regularly contacting GP's and suddenly saying they are caring for someone but it has never been mentioned before but I am sure red flags will be raised but the amount of people trying this on will be low.

There are no flaws in the system in regards to being able to do the online booking or being bumped up the list to be sent an invitation.

If someone phones and says they are a Carer and the GP excepts a

they are high risk and is offered in appointment I don't see how that is fiddling the system.

Yes I was sent a link via a text from my GP, and booked it through that.

But - technically speaking - someone else could have turned up, given my name and had the vaccine in my place. No one at the centre asked for any proof of my identity or why I was there.

when you go to A&E or the GP you are not being prioritised based on earlier data about you

im not saying i think people are fiddling at the moment, but i dont understand the purpose of denying that the system has vulnerabilities to it, that could be exploited in future when it might become advantageous to people to get higher up the queue

you identify weakness, and then if required you rectify it going forward

i think thats the crux of it really - inconsistency happens when something isnt centralised and it was faster and more efficient to let the vaccine centres and gps sort themselves out but it will result in them all doing things a little differently

There is a difference between the mass vaccination centres and local hubs.

The mass vaccination centres are spread across the country and there's only 7 of them and they are all either in stadiums or exhibition centres.

If you haven't had your invite but are in one of the eligible groups you will be offered 1 of the mass vaccination centres or a local pharmacy hub.

If you have not had your invitation letter, email or text then you have to provide proof when you arrive.

"Why do I get the feeling there's a fiddle going on somewhere "

I don't see why you think there is a fiddle.

More people under 70 probably have been vaccinated than those over or at least been offered it.

There are over 2 million people that work in the health or social care system and 10 million that fit into the 16 to 65 category that are considered extremely high or high risk group.

There are only about 8.7 million over 70's so it makes sense that more under that age have been vaccinated.

Central

There are some local issues that happen with supplies and each local centre will be doing its best to catch up. I went with an elderly relative just after new year and the centre was closed, as stock had run out. As they're each vaccinating so many people each day, they can easily get local disruption that sets things back.

As OPs family are within the eligible groups, they should be able to make appointments now, for the near future.

Some areas slow on uptake. There is high number of OAP in my neck of the woods.. still working through them and the CEV.

"I've noticed a lot of you have had the vaccine and a lot of young people but my parents are almost 70 and at risk and still waiting to hear about getting it.

How have you managed to get it so soon.

Can they book it via the NHS Web site?

I didn't know this, I thought everyone had to wait to be called

Every area has offered The vaccine to the over 70 is anyone missed off should call 119.

I have just realised the OP Says his parents on nearly 70 so they have only just started that category. The over 65's and the 16 to 64 with high risk underline conditions are being done at the same time which is why he might be thinking younger people are being offered 1st.

"I think there is a lot of fiddling going on as in everything it is annoying.

I am sure many are genuine but many are not

How can people fiddle their age or health condition?

People have to have an invitation and or put in their nhs number before they can book.

If you are an NHS or social care worker you have to provide proof, If you go to one of the mass vaccination centres you have to provide proof of age or health condition so I don't understand why you think people are fiddling the system."

Staff at my workplace have managed to get vaccinated before their turn. They phoned the booking line or booked online. Non of them actually quailfied for it yet. None had to prove they were eligible. Only one was refused it.

It cant be fiddled. I had to prove I was frontline to 5 separate people when I went for mine. "

Snap they asked for my work details when booking then had to show NHS number and work proof when I attended to two separate people

I have been carrying COVID test samples since the beginning of testing and so had mine earlier

I'd take a guess that it's not all the same process everywhere for everyone?

Yes, we didn't have to show anything, just confirm dob and address.

Maybe.

Everyone is going to be offered one though. We have more than enough vaccines in the country

"Surly you can't all be working for the nhs

It's not just NHS staff who can get it in the 'Dr and Nurse' sense.

Carers and the multitude of vital support workers too.

"

Exactly.

"OP, I don't know if your parents are in Wales too, if so, they seem like they are now starting group 5 ,the over 65's, so they shouldn't be too long.If they are clinically extremely vulnerable, sounds like they should have had it by now."
If they live in wales they should have had there’s now as all groups in priority 1-4 have been done that includes 70 and over ..We are now on 50-69
