To be honest. If a company announced that they had a cure for Covid tomorrow, many governments would rush to buy it without data. They would want to ensure they got their share early just in case it worked, rather than being left behind if it was successful.

To be honest, that is what corporations exist for. It is a function of capitalism. Without the prospect of profit, the products wouldn't be researched and developed in the first place.
Most of us want to pay as little tax as possible, thus by implication, we are not willing to centrally fund things like this sufficiency. The only alternative is to leave it to the market. |

Of course profit is more important there companys with shareholders there in it to make money,there aint many companys out there that are in buisness to make em selves feel good.its all about the cash |

Pharma companies are private corporations that have to make money in order to survive.... if they didn’t there would be minimal investment into R&D .... Governments simply do not have the resources or money to put into it.
The Pharma industry re-invests 20% of income into R&D alone (more than any other industry)... and have to pay for the 100s of New Chemical Entities that it researches to various levels that do not make it to market for efficacy or safety reasons.
It is private companies that have developed and brought to market almost every life saving medication we take for granted.
Easy to knock them - but we can’t do without them!
