Not according to the figures which showed that cases peaked on the 1st January.

The average time from infection to symptoms is 5 days. Case numbers are based on tests and people don't get tested unless they have symptoms.

So yes, it was xmas.

In Scotland, peak cases were 5th Jan reflecting the fact that Hogmanay is so big here.

I've been saying for months that the main cause of cases isn't controlled things like restaurants and schools, it is folk meeting each other in their homes.

Shangri-la

Estimated time from infection to appearance of symptoms is 5 days, but it is usually about a week after symptoms appear that some cases require hospitalisation.

So according to you cases were rising up until Xmas day then once everyone had that one last meeting everyone went back into their bubbles and cases started coming down.

I've known 4 people that had to be hospitalised with covid since Christmas and all of them were hospitalised within a week of 1st symptoms.
