"Very sad news... and hope those vile people slating him and his family will kerb their tongues " Doesn't get quite much lower trolling a pensioner really. Especially one that gave so much.

Apparently they were mate, some proper shit bags hiding behind their screens ripping into him and his family.. Cowards.. Rip Tom..
"A Great Man.. But many Great Elderly Old Men have died due to this terrible illness. However not all Great Elderly Old Men have had the same chance to share farewells with family.unfair.." He didn't get special treatment. Not everyone has died alone as the papers have made out all this time. When a patient has been made palliative they have in many cases been permitted nominated visitors whether they were covid positive or not. As for Tom of course it's sad he's passed just as it's sad when anyone does but let's be honest, it's hardly a shock as some would make believe. He lived a full life to a ripe old age. It comes to us all eventually.

"A Great Man.. But many Great Elderly Old Men have died due to this terrible illness. However not all Great Elderly Old Men have had the same chance to share farewells with family.unfair.." I think it is true that it is sad not everybody has that chance. I also think it is also good to know that Sir Tom had the comfort of his family around him in the last moments of his long life. They are not mutually exclusive. In life not everybody has the same experiences, which is just life. No ill intention, no malice... just life.

He has been getting Trolled on Twitter for going away in December (quite legally I may add). He was offered a free holiday to Barbados for him and his family. They did not break any travel rules but they've been getting a tough time on social media since it was announced he was ill.

"some may think I'm heartless for saying this but as soon as it was announced he had covid I knew he was a goner. Mostly because of his age. I'm not harsh but a realist" but definitely rest in peace, as you have deserved your achievements/accolades and brought much hope to others

I'm not sure people were trolling him where they?" If you disagree with anything it's trolling nowadays. Only thing I saw were people asking if it had been wise for him to have gone to the Caribbean over Christmas at his age. It's somewhere he always wanted to go, BA flew him for free: I'd have chanced it. He had a good long life.

"RIP Tom. An inspiration in dark times. I'd never troll his family but going to the carribean on a holiday seems completely irresponsible." why is it ? No rules broken and in hindsight it was the last holiday he had with his family I’m sure his family will look back and think that they where so glad they did have one last holiday with him

"RIP Tom. An inspiration in dark times. I'd never troll his family but going to the carribean on a holiday seems completely irresponsible." Thousands of people have gone on holiday in the last ten months, and how many have passed away since..? Irresponsible is a harsh and somewhat petty opinion but respect that's your view.. Tbh with what he did and for the people he did it for and at his age with his service to the country he could have gone on the space shuttle and he would get a 'you crack on Sir Tom' from millions..
"RIP Captain Sir Tom Moore! He was a true inspiration. So sad that this horrible virus took him away from us " True , but a 100 year old would likely have died from pneumonia anyway.
"Such an inspiration such a sad loss " Rest on & a minute silence at 8 pm

"RIP. Left a great legacy even before the pandemic. If any of us could depart this World with an Epitaph half as worthy. " The guy did more just by walking round his garden than many will do in a lifetime. Magnificent man.

Which only serves to highlight the mindset of some, and doesn't make Sir Tom's and his family's choice any less valid and up to them..

" His positivism is one of them, in his own words " whatever happens in this present time we're in a difficult position, but we shall get through it, we will get to the end of the day and it will get better. Never ever ever doubt in your mind that things won't get better because they will, they always have done". Something to think about when things get too much.

"It is a sad loss. Sadly people were trolling his family as they were allowed to visit him in hospital " It is a sad loss, and anyone trolling is bang out of order, but, and im probably gona get called out here, i do feel it unfair that he was allowed his family by his side when thousands of other people dying have not been allowed. My mum lost her best friend of 40 years last wednesday, and her husband got a phone call to tell him she had passed, and to go to hospital to sort some stuff out. As they are elderly, they have no clue on tech, so couldnt even face time. As i say, Sir Tom did wanders last year, and much respect to him

As i say, Sir Tom did wanders last year, and much respect to him" A huge amount of effort has been made over the past 6 months to safely allow relatives into wards to spend the final moments with their loved one. The concept of people not allowed in dates back to the early months of the pandemic and in truth rarely occurs now unless the relative is in a category where they need to shield. Tom having his family beside him is a vignette that’s been acted out by thousands of families in the past few weeks. This concept of FaceTime with a dying relative is also quite fictional, FaceTime etc is used by family liaison officers for maintaining communication between patients and families, it’s not employed to broadcast a death, that would be highly inappropriate. The majority of deaths in the under 80’s occur on ventilation, the patient is unable to communicate, it’s a simple act of handholding whilst they slip away. People can deteriorate very rapidly, sometimes we can’t get relatives in before they pass away, that I would suggest was the scenario with your mums friend sadly.

" The liaison teams have been absolutely amazing. A friend recently passed away due to covid, she had lost her mum christmas eve, two days after the funeral she tested positive, her sister also. 19 days later she passed away her sister passed only days before her. The liaison team were a god send to her husband during the time she spent in hospital, he can not praise them enough! He did manage to get to say goodbye, and 10 minutes after getting home he received the dreaded call. It's a disgusting virus and to lose one family member is heartbreaking enough I couldnt imagine going through what this poor family are right now.
