Aww. Now that really is sad! I feel so sorry for anyone who loses a loved one but he's sort of become a bit of a symbol of hope this last year? |

It sounded like he'd been in with pneumonia first, then tested positive for Covid sometime later. I'm sure they'd have tested him on arrival too. Sounds like he could have caught Covid in hospital, unfortunately. |

He could also have had covid that caused the pneumonia. My friend was diagnosed with covid pneumonia 4 weeks ago. |

The article read like he'd been admitted with the pneumonia first (presumably tested then) but the positive Covid test has come much later after a period in hospital. It's a moot point. I just hope he can either withstand it or his passing is peaceful.
As you know, I have first hand experience. |

Of all the things that happened during the last year, Capt Tom was the most inspirational to me even at my age.
All sorts of things have made me cry and upset this year, but hearing that Capt Tom has covid is just about the most upsetting thing i have heard............god bless you Tom and hope you come through this xxxxxxxx |

His daughter posted the information on Twitter. Perhaps you could try and demonstrate some empathy for Capt. Tom and his family? |

Many people who have covid bad enough to be hospitalized have told me that covid is one long continuous fight. A fight to keep breathing literally.
Captain Tom clearly has tremendous spirit and I hope that helps him to fight hard and pull through.

Yes, I did see that he flew abroad to Barbados with his family before Christmas, it would be quite a sorry situation if this holiday caused him to miss his turn for the vaccine, and he has now ended up in hospital with Covid. Hopefully he makes a full and swift recovery |

I was wrong yes he did go to Barbados that according to a newspaper article I read he did get the vaccine a few weeks ago.
From reading the article it seems that he was in hospital with pneumonia then possibly caught covid in hospital but hopefully as he's had the jab he won't have serious symptoms from the covid as Pneumonia is serious enough. |

From his Twitter account, his daughter has issued a statement saying he was being treated at home the last few weeks for pneumonia, last week testing positive for covid. Today he was transferred to hospital as needed additional help with his breathing, in a ward and not ICU
Speedy recovery fella

Not sure what you are attempting ( very poorly!) to say?

He couldn't have it as he was on medication for the pneumonia he was ill with, it's not 'wrong' it's what was deemed in his best interests at that time.. |

He might have thought I'm 100. I've had an amazing life. I have the chance of a free holiday to Barbados with my children and grandchildren. That is the culmination of my full life and I am happy to die afterwards because I'm tired now. |

I understand what you're saying, but we're in the middle of a pandemic and taking across a large group of family members to another country during this time seems irresponsible. Yes, he might be happy to risk catching covid, but what about all those out there who don't want to but could come in contact with them?
It sets a bad precedent letting h go, yet the media pull other celebs from pillar to post from doing the same.
I hope he pulls through, but I don't agree with what he and he family did. |

He may very well have thought that but it’s selfish. He’s now taking up a hospital which are already in short supply and using up vital resources and man power.
I don’t think the Moores are short of a Bob or two so the chance of a free holiday probably doesn’t come into it.
Stay at home and protect the NHS. Aye, whatever.
Yet people who have worked all throughout the pandemic are rightly or wrongly criticised because they’ve went away.
It’s also being reported that his family is by his bedside.
I don’t wish the old boy no harm but come on eh. We’re supposed to be in this together, or so we keep getting told. |

It's not so much when he is going to die as the pain and torture the death from this awful disease, of not being able to breathe as your lungs are slowly filled up with clots or fluids.... Effectively water boarding torture.

At the time his trip away Captain Tom didn't break any rules as it happened during the tier systems not a lockdown period.
Some will say the trip was ill adcised but to call him in the wrong, a rule breaker, not one of us etc etc is not right at all!
Keep fighting Tom |

Well not strictly true for all people. I can only talk to the experience my mum had 2 weeks ago. She was in a lot of distress and pain. My eyes are welling up just thinking about it. Either way my point is some deaths from covid caused symptoms are long drawn out and distressing. So whatever age someone is, its a horrible way to go. |

He and his family broke no rules and I find its absolutely astonishing how people are fast to blame him and his family on a thread like this |

I was going to say sadly it isn't the same for everyone, people may be more comfortable in Hospital but at home or in care homes they could be left to it

"Flying across the world with a 100 year old relative in the middle of a global pandemic what could go wrong? I don't even let my 74 year old parents do their own supermarket shopping. What were his family thinking???"
I would go if I was 100 years old, he seemed to have his own mind to be able to make that decision |

Didn't say he broke the rules. Just doesn't seem like a particularly good idea to me considering his age and the fact for the first months of the pandemic which were less dangerous than now people of that age were shielded. Never mentioned rule breaking. Just doesn't seem like the best decision |

How have we become a society in which death is no longer an acceptable inevitability? Simply existing for as long as possible is now more important than experiencing the joys and hardships of actually living. If we continue to believe these things, humanity is finished.

He didn't catch covid while away though.
He and his family broke no rules and I find its absolutely astonishing how people are fast to blame him and his family on a thread like this"
I find some of the views on this thread pretty appalling.
The man did an amazing thing for us.
Whether he did or not, he's really not well.

"He is 100 , how long do we all think we’re going to live for ?
It's not so much when he is going to die as the pain and torture the death from this awful disease, of not being able to breathe as your lungs are slowly filled up with clots or fluids.... Effectively water boarding torture.
He will not be in pain..
End of life care will ensure that he's as comfortable as can be whilst nature takes it course, clearly it may not come to that..
Sorry to hear that, did not intend to bring up bad memories for anyone and it should not happen in this day and age tbh..
lost Dad last March and he was peaceful and not in pain pretty similar to when Mum went..

I don't agree, you can have sympathy for someone who may be dying and say you don't agree with something they did |

My dad is 86. I have frequently offered to do his shopping but he is insistent on maintaining his independence and doing his own. He relishes the chance to chat with other shoppers and the staff. |

It's a difficult compromise.
My oldest relative is a nonagenarian. Fortunately I don't have to have words with her about shopping by herself because she's in regional Australia with bugger all risk. Go nuts. Aldi is your oyster |

They probably sell Australian oysters in Aldi in Australia
It's a good thing I haven't had to have words because she'd wring my neck even from this distance |

My thoughts go out to Tom.
It does highlight the fact that some of most at risk population are unable to take the vaccine, making it so important for all the rest of us to maintain precautions and get vaccinated when we can. |

The news is saying his family have issued a statement saying they are so glad they were with him in his last few hours and that he was chatting, reminiscing and sharing laughter about the good times they have had.

You're so right mate. A great and noble hero of this nation has died in a way no human should leave this earth. All I feel is an overwhelming sadness, yet it seems for some of there has been some gleeful handwringing in the opportunity to gain "points" in their argument.
Repulsive is a good word. Me? I'm sick to my stomach.
I deleted my personal profile from this site because over the course of this virus, the veil has been lifted of the face of a community of people I sought to have sex with. Now I hope never to encounter some of these people in real life. Much less have sex with them. I stated at one point "we have lost our humanity". It now becomes apparent some of us never had any humanity to begin with. |

He went in on the 10th, tested negative until he left on the 22nd when he tested positive. It has always been said the most dangerous place for an older person is a hospital. |

"How was sir toms family allowed to visit him in hospital and why aren't they isolating now "
Patients expected to die have always been allowed visitors in many places (as long as staffing was available to show them in and the Patient wasn’t on a shared ward where other patients would be endangered by the visitor). Usually very limited numbers (I know one person who couldn’t have all of their children as they had 8 and only 2 people max were allowed).

One person was allowed to visit my Grandad, as he died of Covid just over a week ago. I was that person. Other family members were told they could not come. We understood and have coped with it. |
