Tin town

Todays numbers just out... For the first time in months the number of deaths reported have dropped (by a small percentage but have dropped)

Infections continuing to drop

Hospital admissions continuing to drop.

Tests performed a huge 771k.

7.5m people vaccinated first dose.

Keep up the good work. In amongst all the bad news... This is surely a positive.

I heard yesterday that in Israel where they’ve vaccinated a higher percentage of population than any other country, the infection rate is dropping rapidly. That cheered me up!

It’s good news but to put into perspective the population of Israel is only about 9 million. If you had the UK programme there they’d be over 2/3 done too.

Fantastic and positive news. Beats some of the negativity that graces certain forum posts. Let's all hope that this trend continues and complacency doesn't kick in. Thank you for this uplift.

Actually we would be done because the under 18's are not able to have the vaccine.

This isn't true unfortunately. My sister lives there. Cases are on the rise as there are cohorts of the population not following rules. They are considering extended lockdown which was due to end this weekend.

I will just add even though this is brilliant news 7.5 Million doses that includes about 3 million that have had their 2nd dose so actually 3 million are fully vaccinated.

It's still brilliant and they really seem to be motoring now.

When you add all of the people vaccinated plus all of the people who have had covid and therefore have antibodies, surely we're now well on the way.

O o O oo

It is great with the vaccines, hopefully supplies permitting we will go a way of getting out of this mess. However infections are up on yesterday and with 1239 deaths I can't celebrate too much

Here’s hoping, that is the figure I watch rather than first doses, it is growing a lot slower than first dosage this last week

We are only 4 or 5 weeks in aren't we.? We didn't start national roll out till after New year or is my memory failing?

Id imagine it will all be focused on dose 1 till Feb 15th target date or whenever it was and then they'll switch a bit to dose 2. If the strategy was to hit first 4 groups by Feb 15th we've got a fair bit to go.

As per the notes accompanying the stats, this is weekly roundup up

In the week ending the 24th January an additional 2,234,312 people were reported to have received an NHS vaccination for COVID-19 in England. This took the total number of people vaccinated since vaccinations began on 8th of December to 5,792,159 and the total vaccinations given to 6,232,584.

• Priority groups for vaccination in this initial phase were determined by Government following advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) and included care home residents and their carers, people aged 80 years old and over, and frontline health and social care workers.

• Of the vaccinations provided over this time, 2,590,390 were provided to people aged 80 years old or over, which is 42% of the total vaccinations given.

• Until the 29th December, all vaccinations received for COVID-19 were 1st vaccinations. Between the 29th December and 24th January, 440,425 2nd vaccinations were given

When all the vaunable people have been vaccinated in a few weeks, what reasons will they come up with to keep us locked down. I can't wait to here the bullshit, it's going to be interesting.

It’s going to take a lot longer than a couple of weeks to vaccinate the vulnerable groups

We are only in phase one of the vulnerable groups.

We have only just started on the 3rd and 4th priority out of 8.

We are looking at least to the end of Easter and until the priority groups have been vaccinated.

Yeah they just love tanking the economy and paying out all these benefits. I reckon they'll keep it going until at least the next election...

Dont really understand how come folks get all this information that hospital addmissions are right down I worked in nhs for many years the hospitals around here are in mess dont get to carried away with the media reports we are in lockdown when that eases thing will be more problematic along with dreadfull waiting lists for other work I like most of us want my social life and holidays to return vacine will help a lot but being realistic we are in this for a very long time yet come next winter sure some restrictions will be back

Why would it be the end of the summer because my understanding is the 1st 4 groups will be completed by mid February OK so let's be generous and say early March.

So Why will it take 5 months to vaccinate the other 4 groups?
