it seems jobs for the boys and the dodgy hand shake brigade in the lodges ...
Just one in 100 Government Covid-19 contracts worth an eye-watering £17.3billion was awarded by competitive tender raising more questions about whether the taxpayer has been getting value for money during the pandemic, it was revealed today.
Companies with no experience of supplying masks, gloves and aprons won lucrative Government deals in the 'shambolic' scramble for contracts - with critics calling it the 'Wild West'.
The Institute for Government (IfG) says it has found 'little evidence' of competition for deals handed out between March and last July at the height of the scramble for PPE for the NHS.

It is shocking but its their way. Money isn't a problem - if it's paid by the others, the normal working people, as your 'clever' friends from Eton etc avoid paying it as much as possible - when you fancy spending tens of £millions on some folly like a garden bridge etc. It's the Great British Siphoning Off of your money to friends, donors etc. That's their priority, of course, to enable the greater financial wellbeing of their sort of people.
The virus any other crisis or time when they have limited scrutiny of them, whilst other aspects deflect, allow for their cloak and mirrors to become fully engaged. It's better to have a strategy of living with you virus chronically, instead of elimination, as it costs taxpayers more and lets them siphon off more money in perpetuity. You know it makes sense |

It is a complete and utter scandal that will be made even worse when Rishi Sunak raises taxes to “pay for Covid”.
It will mean THIS govt fleeced the public purse to pay their mates and will then tell public we have no money so you need to pay more tax.
It is one huge money laundering scheme.
This has started to be more widely reported and quite something when even the Daily Heil is talking about it (guess their proprietor didn’t get any contracts.)
There is also the good law project who intend to take Govt to court (good luck with that).
There was also a fast track procurement process for organisations with linkages to Ministers and Tory party (inc Tory party donors).
Also get this - Companies that are Tory party donors are awarding very lucrative contracts then use some of the money they make to donate to the Tory party - so tax payers are funding the Tory party.
Big issue as I see it is the still high levels if support BJ and Tories have. This is the Brexit halo. Many ppl voted Tory in Dec 2019 to “Get Brexit Done” but failed to understand that Brexit is a Trojan Horse (start preparing for erosion of workers rights, continued/accelerated privatisation of NHS, lowering of food standards etc etc) |

The guardian have been reporting on it for a while and like I said previously the ny times have done a few pieces on it.
Quite surprised it's in the mail but people are more concerned with getting 1 over on the eu and it will been as another example of "gmnt bashing '.
The numbers are eye watering £11b and when reece Mogg was asked about it in parliament,he simply refused to answer. |

Do we now have to give you a schedule when we can post. Stop trying to make this an almost hostile posting environment.
I was asking a question as to whether they provided the required services? If they didn’t it would be even more scandalous. |

The scale of waste and corruption around PPE procurement is absolutely off the charts.
The government attitude is a bit like "if 5 million quid here or there was stolen, that would look very bad, but if its 12 billion then no one would believe it was possible to steal that much, so we will probably get away with it."

"Did they provide the requested services/products? "
Not in all cases to the required standards ..
We all know it was a panic (partly due to the fact here that the recommendations of Op Cygnus had been amended down and then largely not met )hence shortages globally etc..
And yes it's fair to say that all administrations have wasted money, see labour and regional fire controls..
But for anyone apart from those who have lined their pockets to be ok with friends and associates of the government setting up companies in areas they know nothing except there's a gravy train to jump upon and for established companies in the field with a proven track record of provision, meeting required standards to be ignored and not even on a fast track list is bizarre..
Especially when those who needed the PPE to protect us and our families were desperate for it.. |

If these extortionate companies had provided the goods... would anyone care it didn’t follow tender process?
Purely because as we’ve seen in other threads, people have asked for lots of corners to be cut to speed things up.
For example cutting the admin and training process for vaccines. |

No problem cutting corners and red tape in times of crisis.
But this is more like wartime profiteering, its revolting. |

It's more to do with the fact that many of the companies were given contracts because they had links to the gmnt. |

Moving fast in a time of crisis = good
Awarding contracts to spurious companies with no track record or expertise in an are because they have the right contacts (exclusively Ministers & Tory MPs & Lords) = bad
Not awarding contracts or blatantly ignoring companies that have expertise & track record because they do not have right contacts = bad
TOTAL CORRUPTION AND PROFITEERING
CRIMINAL |

The fact that this is being done with impunity suggests that they are confident that there will be no comeback on them.
