so Debenhams are shutting but they can only sale the name and not the buildings... will we be living in disused department stores in the future like in Bladerunner??
if the greedy property over Lords would give them to the homeless that would be nice..
meanwhile the brilliant flaming lips have performed live at a venue in Oaklahoma with an audience completely made up of people enveloped in plastic balls.. they did this as the lead singer has been crowd surfing in one for years. so what is the future? the new normal? what can you endure?
but as they say in my fave flaming lips song
'do you realise that everyone
you know
someday
will die? ' |

I've seen reports that Brian May (of Queen) is working with a team on some new air con type thing for gig arenas. Possibly similar to planes where they change the air frequently.
I want gigs and theatres back by this summer. Some kind of mass testing on the door then everyone sat close like in the Before Times.
I can dream. |

Construction has a huge environmental cost, so we need to avoid constant replacement and rebuilding.
A better long term plan needs to be made for our town and city centres. Repurposed buildings are fine, if they fit into a sound long term sustainabile plan. Some may be good as the new alternative to warehouse refurbishments for homes. |

Yes, I've been told that a whole shopping centre in Ilford is to be made into housing and offices.
What else will unused department stores be useful for?
They could become warehouses for online shopping stock I suppose; like Argos in Sainsbury shops. |

I used to work in the Style Cafe at the White Rose Debenhams, me & my colleagues were all made redundant in one go , they read a script out to us all over a phone call which was really horrible , I really enjoyed the job |
