R rate falls

So the R rate has fallen from between 0.8 to 1.

This seems to be positive news and hopefully a sign that we will soon see improvement in the hospital and death rate.

Manchester (she/her)

The fall in England is mostly London, plateau elsewhere.

It's good news but I fear not good enough.

Agreed but I do think we need to look for positives where we see them.

It is definitely a step in the right direction and hopefully once more of the most vulnerable are vaccinated we really will start to see a huge difference in the horrendous numbers we have been seeing.

Is it positive news though????

Probably not its just more nonsense to try get things moving faster for the economy as per usual.

March was nothing compared to now but yet there is more relaxation in rules

Seriously a strong grip is needed to win this battle for all of us sakes.

I don't think there is any immediate plans to relax the rules.

I'm just saying this is a step in the right direction.

Yes of course it did but this time we have the roll out of the vaccine so we can be hopeful that We will not see these kind of numbers again or have to have such strict measures in place.

That's good. And what's also good is there doesn't seem to be a clamour from govt to start unlocking quickly this time. Continue to drive the r rate down, roll out vaccines, short term pain, long term gain.

It's good news, now anyone infected can only spread it to 8-10 people.

Just hope people don't get complacent.

That isn't how the rate works if the R rate is one then you are likely to pass on to 1 other person not 10.

If we keep at it, with lockdown until March, it should get things well underway to be more in control, whilst the numbers of the vaccinated gets higher

I worded that badly I didn't mean pass it on to just one because of that depends on how many people you've been in contact with but it is to do with the infection rate but either way it is 1 not 10

When I saw it I thought no that can't be right, I thought it was just one but then I googled it because I panicked.

According to data, 3 out every 4 people who have tested positive have not been isolating.maybe its these we need to thank for us all being where we are now.

This is, why the government is dangling this £500 carrot to self isolate now, if you test positive.

It isn't being proposed for if you test positive it is being proposed for if you get contacted by track and trace regardless of whether you have covid or not.

Our numbers are falling also and our hospital admissions are starting to show encouraging signs.

Yes till you hear that the new strain they said spread faster but was no worse in terms of symptoms is now being described as more deadly, apparently the vaccine will still work on it.....

And that they are unsure if the vaccine will be quite so effective on the other new variants

I find it a worry cause they were adamant the new strain would cause no worse symptoms and the vaccine would protect against it now some months later its described as having a 30% higher mortality rate but the vaccine will still work?

Now they know we will be locked up without much resistance, they will keep it going as long as we let them.

I agree it is a concern and we don't know yet I guess but even if it doesn't give high protection to new variant some is better than nothing.

The flu vaccine for example only offers about 40% protection and even though we have outbreaks every year we don't normally meet to shut the whole country down.
