Scottish Home Schooling Extended

I can't believe Sturgeon has extended the home schooling until at least the middle of February with a possible phased return after that.

Does she not understand there is a lag between what she does today and hospitalisations and deaths?

Both are high today but as the positive cases have been going down steadily, hospital admissions and deaths are about to follow suit. The virus doesn't kill you in a day - it actually takes on average 3 weeks.

By Feb, well over 60% of those who would have gone to hospital/died will have been vaccinated so numbers will only be going down even with schools going back.

We should be opening up, not locking down.

1600 deaths in 1 day and now is the time to open up?

Home schooling is great.

Hope it carries on until at least Easter, maybe the Summer.

she does understand the lag, shes trying to make sure numbers have reduced enough so that we actually get the benefit of being locked away rather than just give the hospitals enough time to catch up from the last round ready for the next flow... if we dome out of lockdown too soon or too fast the lockdown becomes pointless as we lose the the ground we gained and just have to yoyo back in and out quicker

surrounded by twinkly lights

She's doing it right, when they reopen cases will be low enough that track and trace will work again so more shops/restaurants can reopen safely

On a mooch

Right choice to keep them closed

We’ve already been advised it is very unlikely the kids will be back at school this term

For home schooling read no schooling. This is really going to accentuate the differences between the rich and poor.

The quality of schooling is poor which will have a lifelong effect on a huge number of school children with an effect on everyone else in society with a less well educated generation.

This will be particularly pronounced in poorer areas. We will have lost the best part of a year's education - how can we catch up on that?

It's next to impossible to home educate and work at the same time. To all those who support the schools staying shut - can I send my kids to you each day?

You'd soon change your minds then.

Fact is that with basic statistical modelling it can be seen that hospitalisations and deaths follow positive cases which have been going down steadily. We KNOW roughly what the numbers will be like by the end of Feb and it is FACT that opening up the schools won't lead to overwhelming of the NHS or excess deaths due to vaccinations. This will allow the economy to open up sooner which we need more than anything else.

The SNP are just timewasting.

all loved up

As someone who has been home schooling for almost 3 years now I dont see the issue... my step daughters been at mine for a while now... and she is still in school. The lessons are done via online and on the whole her levels of understanding have gone up.

I also dont see with climbing rates of infections how they could have done anything else. To be fair I expect schools to be closed till Easter at least. If a key worker kids can go to school I believe. Not sure in Scotland though
