My parents are both in their eighties and have effectively been housebound for the last nine months.
Now my father has been offered a home visit for the vaccine, but they wont do his wife at the same time because she is under a different doctor.
FFS she will be in the same room while he gets his jab.
CAN IT BE THAT DIFFICULT.

It's not about how difficult or easy it is, it's about the supplies of the vaccine given to each individual GP practice.
Your mum's vaccine won't be far behind though. |

My former practice was in the news last week as it had 80+ year olds queuing around the block for hours on their zimmer frames etc. |

Father in law is 91 had his first jab thank god but second one has cancelled.
Vanilla friend age 65 no major underlying chronic illness got the vacinne a week ago? Phoned by his surgery they had left over vaccine?
His wife 63 vaccinated as she works in a surgery understand hers.
Finding this hard to deal with. Pleased they are safe but feel he has jumped the que.
Anyone else know of simular? |

If it was left over, better to use it than throw it away. Maybe they couldn't get hold of anyone in the over 80's group at that time. |

Exactly. My daughter is 25 and works in a hospital but not frontline. She has been put on a list to be contacted at short notice if there is any left over. I am happy for her to have it. I don't feel she is jumping the queue in front of me. |

these surgeries must have some sort of agreement with each other, normally when you register with a new practice you sign paperwork to allow them to take your records from the old practice and it takes a few weeks, most practices just dont have the infrastructure to be able to see all the medical records for everyone in the uk ,
some things like smear tests are kept on a national database that can be logged into from any medical centre so they can be picked up by hospitals/ gum clinic/ gp since people have them done different times places |

Yea, chiseling all that complicated stuff onto a sandstone tablet does take time, and where are the camels when you need one for a quick delivery, |

Yea, chiseling all that complicated stuff onto a sandstone tablet does take time, and where are the camels when you need one for a quick delivery, "
i’m not sure if this is sarcasm or not but you realise that data, even electronic, needs to be stored (safely) and that costs money and requires space and the appropriate operating level of equipment to access it... im not talking about rooms and rooms of everyones paper records , i am meaning IT infrastructure |

This is what I was thiking plus there are plenty of people that have said on the forums they have gone to take a relative to get a vaccine and been offered it themselves because they've got spares so there must be a way.
I do understand why the OP is frustrated because it does seem madness if there in the same house and they are both in the same priority. |

Yes there are lots of stories like that and I get the frustration.
The over 65's are 5th on the list so whilst I do understand again it's upsetting if you know people that are higher up the list that happen had it, But this person is still in the high priority group. |

I'm not actually because I have had home visits by doctor during the pandemic. It was at the end of March last year though.
I live in Southampton the same as the OP and home visits do not seem to be as hard to come by here as they do in other parts of the country. Ash was amazed that the doctor did a home visit as he said it is only in extreme circumstances where he lives in London. I add I was quite poorly at the time and it was urgent treatment. |

exactly , the line has to be drawn and its drawn by groups of need or age at present, otherwise we have situation where there are 3 generations living in the house, might aswel just jab everyone while we are in doing granny |

Also when I get my flu vaccination at a pharmacy they tell me they'll let my surgery know. Boots and Asda do the same. |

It does. I've had to be extremely insistent to get home visits for her on the past, bear in mind that she broke her back, had a head injury and bleed on the brain and several strokes and is unable to walk more than a few steps. We don't bother anymore and call 111 or 999 |

It’s based on lots of things, sharing agreements between practices being the main one (in place for out of hours but not during the day), stock, availability.
I promise it isn’t that simple unfortunately if they are with different practices, same practice shouldn’t be an issue though (if different doctor)

I'd say it depends on your area my mum had hers last week when she rang to arrange appointment she asked if my dad could have his whilst he's there as he was taking her yes no probs and are under different doctors. |

I understand the non waste and agree with it, still doubt that a under 80 or front line worker or 70 plus or someone with a chronic illness could not have been found. Knowing that the person has no such issues but hey ho continue to wait and hope its fair. |

I'm vaccinator.. we are limited and only covered to do our own patients in community unless specialist teams are set up. We cannot access other gp records.
Today I went to a person a in bungalow community set. I wished I could gave done all bungalows.. didnt seem fair.

Some areas have done home visits, how else do housebound people get their jabs? These are people who will likely have carers go in daily, so are still at risk from them. |

FFS ey...some times I do wonder how just how things do get done When I phone my doctors a answer phone message says that another Doctors surgery could phone you to arrange the jab...surely they could arrange this by some communication |

I'm currently trying to get an appt as I have a lump in my breast and it's like pulling teeth |

It demonstrates what's inerrantly and fundamentally wrong with most of our systems of management here in the west. Most of our problems are not solved by our managers but rather delayed and enlarged. Yet we seem to feel the need of huge reliance upon them.
It becomes a chicken an egg situation when we then fall in line by indecision and the need to be told what, when and how to do something without the ability to reason, make good decisions and take personal responsibility.
