A patient with covid is admitted to hospital.

This situation is so out of control yet people are still protesting, disbelieving and doing whatever they want.

Im struggling to see how things will improve given the fact that hospitals dont even think we have reached peak admissions yet.

I saw that reported earlier today. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

Scary isn't it, 1 person every 30 seconds is sick enough to go into hospital and generally stay in a while, how long before there are no more hospital places left....

Sending covid patients into care homes is like puting a fish in a tank with no water.

What fucking idiot thought that one up.

Yes I saw that and it is awful however it is positive that the number of people testing positive each day is going down.

I had this conversation on Facebook with someone who has been mixing with a lot of family members.

This person said that they pay lots of tax towards the NHS so is entitled to a bed.

Not to make light or discredit the figures, but an estimation of how many are discharged completes the picture, I know it is a very serious situation and in no way do I seek to challenge that, just would like to know

This is the culmination of tribal thinking, fake culture war and a bombardment of media misinformation. No matter what the issue is from now on. Facts don't matter only how many people will believe the crap. Brexit told us not to believe in the experts. To put our faith in rich people pretending to care about us. Then a pandemic hit us and those same people who had been feeding our crap for the past few years now needs EVERYONE to believe them. You may be astonished or not surprised at all by the amount of people who are anti mask, anti lockdown, anti science that are also Tory thumbing right wing agitators. Tribal think is literally tearing the country asunder and fuelling the fire of civil war.

We have enough blame in our own government. America is it's own problem.

Also that is hilarious too. Lateral flow tests take 45 minutes and the Pfizer vaccine is only fully effective after the second shot and they haven't even done that right. I an NHS worker is still waiting on my second jab. Government tells us one thing and doctors tell us another. We then pick the information that suits ourselves.

My Mum has been on the Royal Preston hospital since last Monday, I've not been allowed to visit her but have been twice this week to drop items in to the reception of the ward she is on. She was discharged today, I collected her from the ward, which was 3rd floor so I walked a fair few corridors etc.

Not being funny but I didn't see an hospital at breaking point, I didn't see queues of ambulances, A&E looked quiet, I didn't see beds in coridors. Doctors and Nurses with heads in hands looking traumatised. The ward age was on looked pretty normal apart from staff in masks.

Just saying what I have seen this week.

Oh well of course if you visited one hospital this week and saw that, it must be true for the entire country.

Tell that to the 8 people who died in ICU in a north London hospital in one evening. Or to the doctor who was admitted to the very hospital he worked in only to die there 14 days later on the ward I work in.

The doctors and nurses in this country have been at breaking point for years. It is not always about how many beds you can see but how much staff there is to look after them. I am delighted that your mother is home and healthy but you just spat in the face of all the people who worked to get her there.

You seem to be anti-vaccine and have denied the covid is even an issue for almost a year.

I am old so high sceptical of the fact you were allowed to walk through a hospital and go up to the Ward to collect your mother because I have collected people from 2 hospitals in different parts of the country since covid And neither have allowed me on the ward.

The nightingales where a brilliant idea however they haven't been as practical as they were intended to be.

The hope was they could be used for coronavirus patients who were still too sick to go home but Didn't need intensive treatment.

They were hoping they could mostly be staffed by volunteers but unfortunately it didn't work out that way because so many staff are needed in the other hospitals as well as staff getting sick and having to self isolate.

i was allowed into the ward a few weeks ago to say goodbye to my dying grandad (i was just as surprised that it was allowed) , while i was there the bed across was discharged and family came onto the ward to collect them, i guess its done on a case by case risk assessed basis

the flip side of that though is just because you were in one hospital in one ward on one day doesn’t really mean you can say the nhs isn’t under too much pressure , it makes perfect sense that some standard wards could even be completely closed as routine procedures have been stopped and the staff redirected to icu units where patients require more 1-1 care so we would be at max capacity with a much lower number of patients than usual

also with everyone staying home you would expect less accidents so quieter a&e

i live about 10 minutes away from a hospital and the amount of ambulance sirens i hear is a little scary ... although i have to fairly say im not sure if i have just tunes into them because of what is going on, if they are more noticeable because the roads are quieter or if there are genuinely more emergency calls

I have no agenda, my life is to busy to have an agenda. I just said what I saw today, if you don't believe I walked through Preston hospital today then that's fine I really don't give a rats ass.

You call me an anti vaxxer, I'll decide if I do or don't have it when it becomes my turn so dont you dare tar me with this stupid tag. My choice is my choice and not up for discussion by a complete stranger.

And it's certainly no one elses business but mine.

You put it on a public forum so I was just commenting and like I said I did have a look through your previous posts and I just made an observation.

I have only ever commented on three virus threads in 7 weeks. That's hardly what I'd call an agenda.

i was allowed into the ward a few weeks ago to say goodbye to my dying grandad (i was just as surprised that it was allowed) , while i was there the bed across was discharged and family came onto the ward to collect them, i guess its done on a case by case risk assessed basis

the flip side of that though is just because you were in one hospital in one ward on one day doesn’t really mean you can say the nhs isn’t under too much pressure , it makes perfect sense that some standard wards could even be completely closed as routine procedures have been stopped and the staff redirected to icu units where patients require more 1-1 care so we would be at max capacity with a much lower number of patients than usual

also with everyone staying home you would expect less accidents so quieter a&e

i live about 10 minutes away from a hospital and the amount of ambulance sirens i hear is a little scary ... although i have to fairly say im not sure if i have just tunes into them because of what is going on, if they are more noticeable because the roads are quieter or if there are genuinely more emergency calls "

Sorry for your loss, was this a covid ward?

OK sorry I've just had a quick flick through using the green arrow.

You seem to have an agenda to be honest.

You seem to be anti-vaccine and have denied the covid is even an issue for almost a year.

I am sorry about your granddad.

I do know people are now allowed in on compassionate grounds in situations like yours. "

thanks

i was surprised we were allowed (i know we were lucky and many missed this opportunity last year) and surprised at how little challenge i got for walking about the hospital until i rang the door of the ward , like i said someone in the bed across had 2 people come collect them to take them home while i was there too ... i think it might only be standard visiting hours thats cancelled now

" Sorry for your loss, was this a covid ward? "

no just a general ward , i would have thought they would have been more worried about members of the public bringing covid into wards of extremely sick people though

ive never used so much hand sanitiser in my life but nobody advised me not to touch anything (like bed, beside table, his covers , the wrap around curtains etc) nobody told me to sanitise my hands on entry to the ward, i wasn’t even told not to touch my grandad (although i didnt for fear that he actually did get better just to catch covid from me or something) ... i did expect them to be much stricter in making it clear what the expectations were during my visit

Knowing the Royal Preston, I can say that it's a huge site with a number of wards in separate buildings to the main hospital. Critical care is within the main hospital, behind A&E and unless you needed to go there, you'd not see it. I'd also expect that, like most hospitals, they've segregated the Covid treatment area from the wider hospital and people cannot come and go from these "red" areas willy nilly. I'd hazard a guess that the person being collected was on a non Covid ward, but happy to be corrected. Non Covid wards are in the "green" zone and yes, these are quieter because only emergency or urgent surgery is being done and only people who really cannot be managed at home medically are being admitted.

Thats what I was thinking, alot of hospitals in the green areas probably seem quiet, but nobody sees what's happening in the red zones, unless they are staff of patients.

This very true plus the poster said it was today which is a Sunday and the general areas of the hospital are always quieter on the weekends.

I heard that one as well, not good considering Eastbourne is nicknamed gods waiting room. Due to all the care homes here.

Central

It's shocking but thankfully most people are responsibly following the rules, even though the majority think the government isn't doing a good job. There now seems to be the return to shrinking r values in some of the UK, including the South East, where the much more infectious variant first took hold.

Hospital admissions are in a lag, from when infections were caught and there's a further lag, to when those patients deteriorate to die. The hospital situation today is thus indicative of what happened before lockdown started. After further time will have passed from now, we will see the results from infections caught today.

As greater proportions of people over 60 get vaccinated, the numbers of people getting seriously ill and losing lives, should fall progressively. We need patience and good fortune, that vaccine supplies continue to increase, whilst people continue to abstain from risky contacts with others.

Royal Preston is clearly doing what we are all doing. The beds in corridors aren't the corridors YOU walk down. There's no staff there! It's the corridors behind the 'Staff Only' signs you need to see. And, hopefully, nobody should see staff with their heads in their hands. They need to have confidence in us, as you clearly do! But what you're missing is the staff breaking down in the 'Wobble Room' the exhaustion (mentally, physically and emotionally) that these people are feeling.

Yes, they looked OK to you. But it's a mask. They are traumatised and trying to protect you from knowing that. Cos that's what healers do...

Just cos someone was upbeat and positive with you doesn't mean they weren't sobbing into a cup of tea 10 mins later. They were draining their positivity for your benefit. Don't squander that gift by doubting them. Please.

"Not to make light or discredit the figures, but an estimation of how many are discharged completes the picture, I know it is a very serious situation and in no way do I seek to challenge that, just would like to know

it might complete the picture but even without the data im sure we can assume they stay longer than 30 seconds so its not 1 in 1 out "

Indeed no, I was just wondered what the tidal flow..so to speak was. As I said I do not on anyway seek to diminish the severity of the situation.

If NHS staff hadn't been reduced by cuts over the last ten years, it might have been an idea rather than a publicity stunt.

I wholeheartedly agree with what you say. To present a statistic as "one every thirty seconds" is ridiculous and meant to confuse the issue like the Govt has been doing with its propaganda machine.

I am delighted that your mother is home and healthy but you just spat in the face of all the people who worked to get her there."

He didn't spit in their faces at all. He simply gave you exactly what he saw. He actually named the particular hospital. Why not say compare with the main hospital in Rio?

He gave you what he saw at one hospital
